Ed Sheeran hits back at TikTok star over 'embarrassing' Ipswich shirt number
Ed Sheeran has hit back at a TikTok account that criticised Ipswich's decision to include the musician among their squad numbers this season - labelling them a "small club" Ipswich fan Ed Sheeran has set the record straight after someone on TikTok hammered the Tractor Boys - calling them "tinpot" - for including the music icon among their shirt numbers for the upcoming season. Sheeran is an avid fan of the Suffolk club and a regular at Portman Road. He has a minority 1.4 percent stake in the club and previously sponsored their kits. Four years ago, the club offered him the No.17 shirt and he's had his name among the club's players in recent years, with the exception of last year. The music star has donned an Ipswich shirt with his number at concerts in the past and, following their return to the Championship, was included in the team's shirt number release that went out recently. That decision has not pleased everyone with one account on TikTok taking aim at Ipswich's decision to include Sheeran among their first-team stars - only for the minority owner to hit back. In a video posted on TikTok which has had over 700,000 views, Davoooo said: "This is genuinely so embarrassing and so tinpot from Ipswich Town right here." He also went on to say: "The fact that this person even wants a number is so entitled it's unbelievable and the fact that Ipswich are giving him a number just shows how much of a small club they are and how tinpot they really are because what are they doing here?" Sheeran didn't take long to reply on social media as he said: "I bet you're fun at parties bruvva. I didn't ask for it btw they offered back in 2021 and it's been this since. The shirts sell a fair bit so brings in profit to the club. It's really not that deep." The 34-year-old has previously partied with the club's players after securing promotion and his name is alongside current stars like Omari Hutchinson, who Ipswich are battling to keep hold of. The highly-rated winger has courted Premier League attention from Brentford and Nottingham Forest. Ipswich begin their Championship season underway on Friday night when they face Birmingham at St Andrew's. Kieran McKenna remains in charge and the Tractor Boys are among the pre-season favourites to gain promotion with the bulk of their squad doing so two years ago. Chelsea suffer Levi Colwill injury blow ahead of new Premier League season
Enzo Maresca has revealed that Levi Colwill is set to miss Chelsea's Premier League opener against Crystal Palace due to injury. The 22-year-old was a key figure at the heart of Chelsea's defence last season as Maresca's side finished fourth in the Premier League and won the Club World Cup this summer. Colwill returned to training this week following his three-week break after Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign. However, the centre-back has now suffered an injury and is set to be ruled out of Chelsea's Premier League game against Palace at Stamford Bridge on August 17. 'We had a problem in the last two days about Levi Colwill,' Maresca said on Thursday. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. 'We don't know how long he is going to be out. For us we'll see, hopefully not too long but for sure, it's a problem for us. When asked specifically about Colwill's injury, Maresca replied: 'We need to wait, we don't know yet.' Asked if Colwill's injury changes the club's plan in the transfer market, Maresca said: 'It depends. We need to wait and we will see. 'We know each other from last year and we know how important Levi has been. More Trending 'I spoke with him yesterday, I told him what we achieved last year it was because of him and he was a main player for us.' Maresca also insisted that he had 'no doubt' about new signing Jorrel Hato, who joined Chelsea in a £37 million deal from Ajax earlier this month. 'He's much more mature than his age, his character and this kind of thing, 'Even with him, the message is exactly the same, different country, different league, different tempo, different intensity, so he needs to adapt. But for sure, no doubt, he's going to help us.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
