Bodaki, Noida's rail link to east, to have 12 platforms
Noida: The upcoming railway station at Bodaki — being designed as NCR's gateway to the eastern part of the country — will be called
Greater Noida Terminal
. Officials said this could be one of north India's most modern hubs, capable of handling 100 trains, including Vande Bharat and other premium expresses.
Spanning 46 hectares within a larger 176-hectare
multimodal transport hub
, the station will feature 12 platforms and 63 yard lines for comprehensive maintenance operations. While the ground floor will incorporate railway operations, the storeys above will house commercial spaces, creating a mixed-use development.
Complementing the
Noida International Airport
— which is set to start operations in a few months — the station, less than an hour's drive, will aid connectivity between Delhi-NCR and eastern India. The transport hub, of which Greater Noida Terminal will be a part, will integrate an inter-state bus stand, a local bus terminal, and a metro corridor connecting Depot station with Bodaki — serving as a convergence point for commuters from Greater Noida, Noida, and other NCR cities.
With multiple changes in its design, the project's scope has evolved significantly since its initial conception. Originally approved at Rs 1,850 crore, officials said the budget was expected to double with these enhanced capabilities.
The transport hub project gained momentum after being declared a special railway project in Dec last year — a move that streamlined land acquisition and subsequent approvals. According to officials, with the additional DM (land) appointed as the competent authority, acquisition for the project was likely to be completed within two months.
The master plan is being prepared by DMIC-IITGNL, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) jointly promoted by NICDIT (Centre) and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA), each holding a 50% stake. Officials said SPV would submit the blueprint for state govt approval. While Indian Railways will oversee the construction of the station and other allied infrastructure, the SPV will manage the project's financing and develop supporting facilities, such as bus stands and utilities.
The project will have two distinct parts — zone I (130 hectares) housing transit and commercial facilities, and zone 2 (46 hectares) dedicated to the railway terminal and associated commercial development.
Connectivity has been prioritised in the planning, with the hub accessing the Delhi-Howrah railway line and connecting to major road networks, including a 60-metre arterial stretch and a 105-metre expressway-grade corridor. These links will facilitate seamless access to Knowledge Park I, NH-34, and Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
When operational, the Greater Noida Terminal will significantly decongest Delhi's existing transit points — particularly Anand Vihar — by absorbing east-bound passenger traffic from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and other NCR cities. Together with other major infrastructure projects in the region, including the airport, Film City, and Medical Device Park, the transport hub is poised to catalyse economic growth and urban development in this economic corridor.
According to officials, the project is expected to take three years to complete following approval of the master plan.

Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has requested Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal to allocate ₹150 crore from the tobacco board to the state govt to manage the ongoing burley tobacco purchases. He said that the state govt is purchasing about 20 million kg of burley tobacco by spending nearly ₹300 crore as traders did not pick up the stocks leaving the growers into deep trouble. "The state govt deployed state marketing agency-markfed to purchase burley tobacco from growers and it was expected to cost around Rs 300 crore. The state's burden would greatly come down if the Centre grants at least Rs 150 crore from the surplus revenues of the tobacco board," said Naidu. Chief minister highlighted that the decision to reduce import duty could hinder the goals of the National Mission on Edible Oils (NMEO) set by the centre. He suggested the union minister to hold discussions with the US regarding the duties imposed on aqua exports. "The 27% duty imposed by the US on seafood is impacting eight lakh aqua farmers in Andhra Pradesh. The Centre should exert pressure on USA to reduce the burden to relieve aqua farmers," said Naidu. He had also urged Goyal to reduce GST on mango pulp from 12% to 5%. He said that the state govt had already brought the issue to the attention of the Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Couple found dead at house, kin alleges threat from bank
Thiruvananthapuram: A couple, who were reportedly facing a severe financial crisis, were found dead at their house in Karamana, allegedly after receiving a call from a nationalised bank informing them that their house would be attached on Monday as part of revenue recovery. Police identified the deceased as Satheeshan, 55, of Keshava Bhavan near Kochu Kattanvila at Thamalam and Bindu V, 49. Bindu's body was found hanging in the bedroom and Satheeshan's body was lying on the floor. "Only after a postmortem can we confirm whether it was suicide or whether there was any foul play. The cause of Satheeshan's death has also not been confirmed. There was some bleeding from his body," said police. The relatives of the deceased alleged that the bank cheated the deceased by charging an enormous amount as interest on the loan taken. According to relatives, Satheeshan took a loan of Rs 60 lakh about seven years ago. He suffered a stroke in 2021. Following this, he could not repay the loan amount. "Two years ago, the bank offered him some money as a top-up of the existing loan.
