Tre Holloman is back in the Lansing area.
One of the more shocking moments amidst a very eventful offseason for Michigan State basketball was the decision of Tre Holloman to enter the transfer portal and head to NC State. It was a move that led to a lot of anger and confusion from Spartan fans, who were hoping to see as many of the 2024-25 Elite 8 team return next year as possible. On Thursday night, Tre Holloman was back in the Lansing area, making a surprise appearance at the Moneyball Pro-Am to see Jeremy Fears Jr. and Carson Cooper's team win the championship.
247Sports' Stephen Brooks was on the scene to catch up with Holloman. Brooks' first question for Holloman was regarding why he decided to leave East Lansing, which you can see below.
I guess it was just time for me to go to do what's best for me, for my future. I felt like stepping away was what was best.

Pair of Spartans named to preseason watch list for top receiver award

reppin' the Ice Gang 🥶 A pair of Spartans have been named to the preseason watch list for the top receiver award in college football. The preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award was released on Wednesday, with a pair of Spartans making the list. From Michigan State were transfer wide receivers Omari Kelly and Chrishon McCray. The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. Kelly transferred to Michigan State from Middle Tennessee State in the winter portal window. Last season, Kelly recorded 53 receptions for 869 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to his lone season at Middle Tennessee State, Kelly played two years at Auburn in a minor role. McCray is now at Michigan State after starring for Kent State the last two seasons. In his time with the Golden Flashes, McCray recorded 81 receptions for 1,315 yards and 13 touchdowns. Somewhat surprisingly, the Spartans perceived top wide receiver Nick Marsh was left off the watch list. This could end up being a massive blunder should Marsh live up to expectations and have a big season for the Spartans this fall. Video: Spartans LB Darius Snow talks tight bond with teammates, impact that'll have in 2025

Michigan State linebacker Darius Snow has been around the block for the Spartans for a long time, and he's leading by example this fall camp. Snow caught up with the media on Tuesday to provide some insight to where the Spartans are through the first few weeks of fall preseason camp. The sixth-year senior shared some interesting notes on Michigan State, with one thing standing out to him is how close the team is right now. "Whenever you have guys that are friends, outside of here, you wanna play for each other more," Snow said during his media availability on Tuesday. "... The closer you are to your teammates, the more you want to play for them.' Snow noted that some of the players jokingly make fun of his age as the elder leader on the roster, which it seems like he is fine with being. Snow has battled multiple injuries during his time at Michigan State, but through all that has appeared in 36 career games (including 12 starts). He has recorded 127 career tackles, with 6.5 of those being for a loss. Check out the complete video of Snow's media availability on Tuesday in the section below. Video: Spartans LB Wayne Matthews III states MSU defense is further along this year

One of the veteran leaders on the Spartans' defense believes the unit is much further along this year compared to last year. Linebacker Wayne Matthews III caught up with the media on Tuesday where he fielded a number of questions on the Spartans' defense. One of the notable items Matthews touched on during his media availability was the overall progression he's noticed from the defense this year in fall preseason camp compared to last year. "Last year, everyone was learning the system," Matthews said during Tuesday's media availability. "It's a lot different this year." Matthews transferred to Michigan State ahead of last season, starting his career at Old Dominion. In his first season with the Spartans, Matthews appeared in nine games where he recorded 33 tackles. He missed the final three games with an injury, but is expected to be back in full strength this season and be a key contributor for the Spartans. Check out the complete video of Matthews' media availability on Tuesday in the section below.
