PaintBrush Art Community hosts two exhibitions commemorating Ramadan

Gulf Today23-03-2025
PaintBrush Art Community has inaugurated two Ramadan exhibitions, one each at Dubai's Wafi Mall and voco Bonnington Dubai, for the duration of the Holy Month. Ayah, the Ramadan group art exhibition at Wafi Mall, has twenty artists participating, with the artworks being displayed aesthetically in the mall. The Ramadan art collection has been organised by Plan B Group and curated by PaintBrush Art Community. CEO of Plan B Group, Dr. Harmeek Singh, underlined he has ensured one of the biggest art spectacles for the public this Ramadan, by supporting the artists. He has been honoured by several organisations for his humanitarian work.
A lavish ceremony celebrated the artists at the Mosaic area of the mall. An Egyptian theme with dazzling mirrors in the pyramid shaped ceiling, adds to the strength of the event. Artists on the opening day came dressed in Ramadan attire. Though some of them were not Muslims, they paid their respects to the month by dressing in traditional abayas. Guest of Honour, Kusum Dutta, who graced the occasion, is a renowned philanthropist; she has been supporting for long, less privileged sections of society through her NGO. She praised the way PaintBrush Art Community has progressed since its founding. She said the art group has provided 'the most exquisite art events' and has always encouraged artists.

Chief Guest Charanjit Kaur, mother of Dr. Harmeek Singh, graciously met each artist, and distributed certificates to them. When Dr. Romit Purohit, co-founder of PaintBrush Art Community was asked about Ayah, he said that it was the fourth season when Ayah was being celebrated, 'in all its beauty and serenity. Ayah is the most cherished exhibition hosted by The Paintbrush Art Community.' Dr. Romit added that artists wait impatiently to participate in the mega annual art extravaganza.
The artists, on their part, were delighted when enquired about their work. 'It is our fourth season with Plan B Group and at Wafi Mall,' said Sonal Purohit, artist and co-founder of PaintBrush Art Community. 'Wafi Mall is renowned for its extravagant and majestic celebration of Ramadan and this year, the artworks are installed at the Mosaic area of the mall. Since the location is very accessible, the idea is to spread art amongst masses and show them the enchantment of Ramadan.'

'Art is limitless and artists are capable of adding life to everything that a heart can comprehend,' said Sonal Purohit. 'The portrayal of Ramadan can be seen in each painting that is displayed and they carry so much energy and positivity. It is a must see, to feel the magic of art.' PaintBrush Art Community's other art event at voco Bonnington Dubai, is also a point where visitors can feel the vibrant solemnity of the Holy Month, through the richness of art. 'It is a soulful exhibition that displays the essence and joy of the most favourite time of the year for UAE residents,' said Sonal Purohit. 'The art collection of my artists wishes everyone a blessed month via art.'
Dr. Romit Purohit, who is also a health professional, said he ensures that the venue and team 'is of the highest standards, since PaintBrush Art Community has become synonymous with perfection and magnificence. In the larger world, cultural practices during Ramadan include, in some Islamic countries, lights (fanous) strung up in public squares and across city streets. The UAE illuminates its spaces during Ramadan with numerous lights and decorations and markets, landmarks and buildings are adorned with traditional Ramadan decorations. Blogger team art.rtistiq.com notes that 'art has long been a way to express and explore religious beliefs,' since 'it has the power to convey complex and abstract ideas in a way that words sometimes cannot. It allows individuals to explore and express their spiritual experiences in a visual, tangible form.'
During Ramadan, they continue, art plays an essential role in helping people connect with their faith and express their devotion. 'From intricate calligraphy to colourful paintings, art depicts the beauty and significance of the Holy Month. It is a way to capture the essence of Ramadan and share it with others, creating a sense of community and unity.' Traditional Islamic art forms, such as calligraphy, geometric patterns, and arabesque designs, have been used for centuries to express the beauty and spirituality of Islam. During Ramadan, these art forms are often incorporated into decorations, clothing, and food. Calligraphy, in particular, is highly revered in Islamic art as it is used to write verses from the Quran and other religious texts. Islamic art's sinuous geometric patterns and designs are also symbolic, representing the unity and interconnectedness of everything in the universe.

Hunna launches 2025 Mentorship Programme for female Saudi musicians

From July to November, monthly workshops will feature leading regional and international women sharing insights on production, live performance, artist strategy and global positioning. Hunna, a women-led initiative dedicated to championing female talent across the MENA music scene, has launched its 2025 Mentorship Programme and workshop series in Saudi Arabia. The initiative will connect emerging female artists with established industry mentors while hosting workshops and community events across the region in the lead-up to XP Music Futures in Riyadh from December 4 to 6, according to a report by Al Arabiya English. Now in its third edition, the flagship programme builds on Hunna's mission to professionalise, amplify and connect women in music. The network, which has more than 120 active members from Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and beyond, aims to equip women creatives with the resources, connections, and visibility needed to succeed in an evolving global music industry. Six mentees from the MENA region and its diaspora were selected through a rigorous, anonymised process led by the Hunna Committee, a diverse panel of industry professionals and past mentees. The 2025 mentor-mentee pairings include Tunisian music entrepreneur Chaima Soudani with Celine Hitti, Head of Artist Services MENA at Believe; electronic-pop artist Nadine Lingawi ('Fulana') with Emmy-nominated composer and BBC Radio 3 presenter Hannah Peel; Egyptian multi-instrumentalist Martina Ashraf with Montréal-based experimental electronic artist Liliane Chlela; Saudi composer and pianist Nora Aljebrin with Tarabband lead vocalist Nadin Al Khalidi; DJ and producer Lena Chercaoui with Saudi DJ pioneer Cosmicat; and Palestinian-Jordanian vocalist Lina Sleibi with singer-songwriter and visual creative Lina Makoul. Named after the Arabic plural for 'she,' Hunna continues to work at the intersection of cultural advocacy, professional development and community care, grounded in the values of professionalisation, amplification and collaboration. The 2025 programme begins with the 'Introduction to Music Production Workshop' on August 20 at Beast House in Riyadh, hosted by Laughta and Cosmicat. A virtual masterclass titled 'Plan A Release,' led by Lina ElSahli of MDLBeast Records, will follow on August 27, offering practical guidance on preparing and executing a professional music release. From July to November, monthly workshops will bring in leading regional and international women to cover topics including production, live performance, artist strategy and global positioning. These sessions are open to all Hunna community members, underscoring the initiative's commitment to accessibility and shared growth. The programme will culminate with the Hunna Gathering at XP Music Futures in Riyadh from December 4 to 6, described as the 'emotional heart' of the initiative, a space for mentors, mentees, alumni and the broader community to connect, reflect and celebrate. XP Music Futures, now in its fourth year, is organised by MDLBeast and will be held at Riyadh's JAX District. The three-day event will feature a diverse lineup of global and regional speakers, addressing topics such as maintaining grassroots culture, the role of AI in the creative economy and using music for climate action. The conference blends panels, workshops, live performances, and immersive experiences, reinforcing its position as a leading platform for the region's music industry.

ADCB, Visa ‘level up' Egyptian generosity in funny Masri Card ad

ADCB, a leading banking institution in the UAE, and Visa have launched a new, fresh and engaging campaign to create awareness about the new 'Masri Card' credit card among Egyptian audiences. Targeting individuals who use credit cards on a daily basis for small, everyday payments – specifically, people interested in cashback benefits – the campaign was released across digital platforms, social media and billboards. The hero video of the ADCB Visa campaign was brought to life by creative lead and director Sherif Mounir, who directed the spot and developed the idea directly with the client. Everyone Films was the production house on record for the campaign, while The Barber House handled the post-production elements. The campaign, which runs primarily in Egypt, will run over the course of one to two months. The core idea of the campaign was to lean into the deeply cultural Egyptian spirit of helpfulness and generosity, which is deemed an important part of daily Egyptian life. However, given inflation and the rising cost of living, the hero film hilariously shows how this could be gradually fading, lending a level of honesty and authenticity to the campaign. By associating this card with enhancing generosity, the brand aimed to create an emotional connection with its target audience and position the card as something special. To combine the idea of a card that offers unlimited cashback with the idea of Egyptian generosity, the director and the production house showcased how the card is used to pay bills in fast food outlets and to cover everyday expenses, which is the card's main target use. The concept shows the story from the perspective of restaurant and shop staff, who have witnessed an exaggerated wave of generosity since the card's launch. Shot in a docu-drama format, the ad humorously captures how Egyptian generosity has 'levelled up' after the Masri Card appeared. It explores how generosity has changed – now often motivated by the cashback reward – which became the comedic twist at the heart of the film.
