Selangor Ruler expresses appreciation for national heroes
In a post on the Selangor Royal Office Facebook in conjunction with Warrior's Day on Thursday (July 31), His Royal Highness said the service and sacrifices of national heroes will always be remembered and serve as a beacon of patriotism in the hearts of all Malaysians.
"I am pleased to extend Warrior's Day greetings to all the nation's heroes who have served with unwavering loyalty and courage.
"I highly commend the sacrifices, dedication, and resilience shown by our national warriors in upholding peace and defending the sovereignty of our beloved country," His Royal Highness said.
Sultan Sharafuddin, the Captain-in-Chief of the Royal Malaysian Navy, prayed for Allah SWT to elevate the souls of the fallen heroes and grant strength to those who continue to serve on the frontlines.
"The people must remember the sacrifices of those who fought on the path of truth, risking their lives to uphold a sacred trust, the homeland, religion, and the dignity of the nation," the Sultan added.
Warrior's Day is observed on July 31 each year to honour the sacrifices and contributions of security forces serving the nation. - Bernama

At a time when many Malaysians have 'pleaded' with the centenarian 'to resign peacefully from politics', there are those who feel that the elderly statesman has the right to voice his displeasure especially after PMX himself has publicly claimed that he had 'six boxes of evidence regarding corrupt acts' committed by his once mentor. For context, PMX had during his recent official visit to Jakarta cited 'RM1.2 bil' and 'RM4 bil' as money that must be returned by Tan Sri Mokhzani, 67, and Mirzan, 64, unless 'you can clearly explain where the funds came from'. 'Where does he (PMX) get all these figures (from) …?' snubbed Dr Mahathir on his social media page as he labelled PMX as 'an amazing liar'. 'His MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) chief commissioner had carried out full investigation and has stated that Mokhzani declared assets worth around RM1 bil while Mirzan declared RM246.2 mil to the MACC. 'Moreover, TS Azam Baki has stated that MACC was satisfied (berpuas hati) with the declaration made by Mokhzani and Mirzan.' Dr Mahathir who was Malaysia's longest serving premier by having administered the country on two spells of '22 years and 22 months' further caveated that Azam did not talk about cash but merely the value of the wealth of both Mokhzani and Mirzan. Back-up aplenty 'These were made up of property, shares, liabilities, etc which were acquired during 20 years plus of doing business. Such properties appreciate in value over time,' justified the world's oldest PM when he assumed his second premiership on May 11, 2019 at the age of 92 years 141 days. 'The MACC and Azam Baki cannot state they are satisfied if the declarations are unclear or illegitimate.' On his Facebook post which has garnered 11K lies, 3K comments and 1K shares, Dr Mahathir's latest statement seemed to resonate with ordinary Malaysians, probably in light of a slew of disgruntlements and trust deficit issues inflicting PMX and his Madani government. One cunning commenter even mooted a 'counter-action' of 'PMX declaring his and his siblings' wealth as well'. Others wondered of PMX should also initiate a probe into the alleged substantial wealth accumulated by his high-flying former political aide Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak. It is impossible to lay out all comments here but the darndest of exchanges is one between a presumed Madani backer who thought that 'perhaps it is time (for Dr Mahathir) to embrace dignified silence' and one who feels that 'he is continuing a life-long commitment to speaking up when he sees his country at a crossroads'. 'At 100, he carries not just a legacy but a conscience – one that refuses to be silenced by age or public pressure,' philosophised a purportedly Millionaire's Club Member in an enlightening comment of the current Perikatan Nasional (PN) adviser. 'To ask a statesman to exit quietly is to assume that age invalidates wisdom or that the present is always wiser than the past. PM Anwar urges fresh look at Asian history beyond colonial views
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a deeper appreciation of Asian history that moves beyond colonial narratives, citing Tipu Sultan of Mysore, an Indian ruler who fought against the British East India Company as a model of courage, learning, and tolerance. He said that the contributions of Tipu Sultan and his father Haider Ali, as defenders against British colonial expansion, exemplified the importance of understanding history from the perspective of local and regional leaders rather than solely from Western accounts. 'History is not necessarily very kind, one of our scholars Syed Hussein Alatas emphasised the need to reconstruct history because history cannot be written only by the winners or from the perspective of the colonial rulers,' he said during the launch of the More Than A Day As A Tiger exhibition at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, here tonight. Also present were the Prime Minister's wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail; Albukhary Foundation Chairman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary; Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and his spouse, as well as representatives from embassies and consulates. The Prime Minister noted that Malaysian history, like that of many others, is often written from the perspective of the British, essentially reflecting Western colonial rule. 'Of course, there have been lots of academic accounts, including by Edward Said on Orientalism, but the manner, the whole discipline of history, culture and society is being dictated by certain Western viewpoints,' he said. Anwar also shared his personal experience visiting Mysore before taking office, recalling his admiration for Tipu Sultan's modest palace and his protection of Hindu temples, including the ancient temple in Mysore. He also praised Tipu Sultan's foresight in mastering military technology to confront colonial powers, citing the Mysore Sultanate's renowned cannons and firearms that had shocked the British in the early wars. 'It is not just an ordinary exhibition, but to showcase the history of India and the Muslim world, and the history of the anti-colonial struggle against colonial rule, in this particular case, the British rule. 'His diplomatic skills with the few sultanates, Muslims and Hindus in India and his venture into international diplomacy, particularly in persuading the French forces to support his struggle against the British,' he said. Anwar noted that while Malaysians have historically had limited knowledge of Tipu Sultan and Haider Ali's legacy, the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia's exhibition would significantly enhance understanding about the two historical figures. Malaysia, Philippines boost ASEAN cooperation for regional stability
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and the Philippines are committed to strengthening strategic cooperation to ensure a more peaceful and united future for ASEAN, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a Facebook post tonight, Anwar said the commitment was among the matters discussed during a phone conversation with Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr today. 'The discussion also touched on peace and harmony in international waters and border areas, which are our shared priorities for regional stability,' said the Prime Minister. Anwar said he also shared positive developments regarding the border negotiations between Thailand and Cambodia, which are expected to be finalised this Thursday through the consensus of the two countries' defence ministers during the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) meeting here. The Prime Minister said the development marked another step forward in realising ASEAN's aspirations of becoming a peaceful, stable and prosperous region. Cambodian Defence Minister General Tea Seiha and acting Thai Defence Minister General Natthaphon Narkphanit, along with armed forces chiefs and government representatives of both countries, are expected to attend the GBC meeting. Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to implement a ceasefire effective midnight on July 28 following a special meeting chaired by Anwar at the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya. - Bernama
