TFCC rejects workers' demand for wage hike
The chamber said, 'The Telugu film industry in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is already in a very difficult situation. At such a time, when discussions are underway for an amicable solution under the guidance of the honourable Labour Commissioner, the federation has chosen to defy this process.' The chamber argued that the hike is 'unaffordable to small producers' and added that 'every small producer is against this hike, which is not within their means.'
TFCC noted that under the Minimum Wages Act, producers have the right to employ workers as long as they are paid minimum wages. It also referred to a Competition Commission of India (CCI) order that restrained federations from imposing anti-competitive practices.
The TFCC emphasised that producers can now work with skilled workers irrespective of union affiliation, saying, 'There is no film industry without producers. Trade unions should recognise that the well-being of producers is vital for the survival of our industry.'

Sun TV Q1 profit dips 5.4 pc to ₹529.21 cr
New Delhi, Aug 8 (PTI) Sun TV Network Ltd has reported a decline of 5.38 per cent in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) at ₹ 529.21 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. The company had reported a PAT of ₹ 559.32 crore in the April-June period a year ago, Sun TV Network, one of the largest broadcasters, said in a regulatory filing on Thursday. Its revenue from operations was down 1.77 per cent to ₹ 1,290.28 crore in the June quarter. This was at ₹ 1,313.55 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Sun TV Network's total expenses increased 10 per cent to ₹ 782 crore in the June quarter of FY'26. However, total income of Sun TV Networks, which includes other incomes, in the June quarter was up 1.28 per cent to ₹ 1,479.19 crore. Sun TV also owns the Sunrisers Hyderabad Cricket Franchise of the Indian Premier League and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape of Cricket South Africa's T20 League. "The results for the quarter ended June 30, 2025 include income from the Holding Company's Cricket Franchises ("Sunrisers Hyderabad" and "Sunrisers Eastern Cape") of ₹ 473.03 crore and corresponding costs of ₹ 256.09 crore," the company said. Moreover, subsequent to the quarter ended June 30, 2025, its holding company has entered into a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with the England and Wales Cricket Board to acquire 100 per cent equity in the Northern Superchargers Ltd, for a consideration of 100 million British Pounds (around ₹ 1,050 crore). Sun TV Network operates satellite television channels across seven languages -- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla, Hindi and Marathi, and airs FM radio stations across India.

May be dead bodies do move, India growing at 7%: Arvind Panagariya on Trump's dead economy jibe
New Delhi: Dismissing US President Donald Trump's "dead economy" jibe, 16th Finance Commission Chairman Arvind Panagariya on Friday said the Indian economy is growing at 7 per cent, and more than that in dollar terms. Panagariya was speaking at the Business Today India@100 event. "You don't grow at 7 per cent plus (if the economy is dead), and actually in dollar terms we are growing at more than 7 per cent. I don't know what the definition (of dead economy) means. May be, dead bodies do move," he said when asked if India is a dead economy. Asked about India's trade protectionism, Panagariya said: "There may be protectionist measures... We are substantially open". Mounting a sharp attack on India, Trump had remarked that India is a "dead economy". "I don't care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care," Trump had said in a social media post on July 31. Trump later imposed 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods imported to the US with a brief exemption list. Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had last week asserted in Parliament that India is the world's fastest-growing major economy, contributing almost 16 per cent to the global growth and will soon become the third-largest economy in the world. "In just over a decade, India has rapidly transformed from being one of the Fragile 5 to the fastest-growing major economy in the world. We have risen from the 11th largest economy to one of the top 5 economies, driven by our reforms, the hard work of our farmers, MSMEs and entrepreneurs," Goyal had said in Parliament on July 31.

Dalit Man Allegedly Thrashed In Tirupati, Appeals 'No Politics In My Name'
Hyderabad: A Dalit man was assaulted in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati and the incident filmed by his attackers, one of whom is linked to an ex-MLA from the opposition YSR Congress Party. Pavan Kumar was reportedly beaten over a dispute about a rented motorcycle. The main accused, Anil Reddy, was reportedly a driver for ex-YSRCP MLA Bhuman Abhinay Reddy. The second accused has been identified as Dinesh. Both have been arrested. A third suspect, Jaganreddy, has also been taken into custody, sources said. A video of the attack was shared on X by Revenue Minister Satya Prasad Anagani, who called out Bhuman Reddy for allowing his 'followers to carry out oppression against Dalits'. "In Tirupati, YSRCP rowdies, who are followers of Bhuman Abhinay Reddy, carry out oppression against Dalits... they are recording videos and intimidating them." "The gang leader (Anil Reddy, is) Bhuman Abhinay Reddy's right-hand man. His goons kidnapped a Dalit youth and subjected him to torture. Police have arrested the accused." However, in a twist, Pavan Kumar said in a video statement that the attack on him "had nothing to do with Dalits or the YSRCP and the ruling Telugu Desam Party". "Please do not troll me and play politics in my name..." Pavan Kumar said in Telugu in the video. The video of the assault showed two men locking Pavan Kumar in a room and hitting him with wooden sticks. Reports said the video was then sent to his father, possibly to intimidate him. Reports also said the two men demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh to release Pavan Kumar.
