Newly re-elected TFCC chief Suniel Narang steps down
Veteran film producer Suniel Narang on Sunday resigned as president of the Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC), only a day after being elected to a third consecutive term. Speaking to Hyderabad Times, he said he quit because he felt 'hurt and disrespected' by public remarks linking him to issues he 'had no involvement in.' 'My secretary said something and it was upsetting, especially since I wasn't responsible for the issues being discussed. I don't want to take names, but it was all too overwhelming at that moment. I felt stepping down was the best course of action. My decision may have seemed sudden, but it came from a place of feeling hurt and disrespected,' he said. Background At a TFCC press meet on Saturday, secretary V L Sreedhar criticised a proposed theatre bandh by some exhibitors and distributors that had been planned from June 1 but was later withdrawn. Sreedhar claimed, 'The bandh was driven by two producers and two directors.' Commenting on the postponement of Hari Hara Veera Mallu, he added, 'Due to the sudden postponement, lots of theatres that had already been blocked for the film's release are now lying empty. Piracy strikes again: TFCC lodges piracy plaint over leaks of 2 new films
Hyderabad: In a fresh blow to the Telugu film industry, two newly released films—HIT: The Third Case and #Single— fell victim to piracy within hours of their theatrical debut, prompting the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) to escalate the matter to Hyderabad cyber crimes police. The TFCC, through its anti-video piracy cell, alleged that high-definition pirated versions of the films were uploaded on notorious torrent sites, raising serious concerns about security lapses in the digital cinema distribution chain. The TFCC lodged a formal complaint with the cyber crimes police station in this regard. The complaint was filed by Yarra Manindra Babu, project head of TFCC's anti-video piracy cell. It details how pirated versions of both films appeared on various websites within hours of their theatrical release. HIT: The Third Case, starring Nani and directed by Sailesh Kolanu, was released on May 1, while #Single, featuring Sri Vishnu and directed by Caarthick Raju, hit theatres on May 9. An HD pirated copy of HIT: The Third Case surfaced online on the night of May 1 on platforms such as and Preliminary investigations suggest the leak may have originated from UFO Digital Cinema or one of its affiliated theatre chains. The producers had embedded advanced forensic watermarking in all digital cinema package copies to trace such leaks. Similarly, a camcorded version of #Single was found online shortly after its release, appearing on and However, the exact source of this leak remains undetermined. The TFCC emphasised the severe economic impact of piracy on the Telugu film industry, citing estimated losses of ₹3,700 crore in 2024. "Piracy not only undermines producers' investments but also endangers the livelihoods of thousands of families working in the industry," said Manindra Babu. The police registered a case under various provisions, including sections 66C and 66E of the IT Act, section 318(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and sections 63 and 65 of the Copyright Act. A cyber crimes official confirmed that the TFCC has provided specific URLs hosting the pirated content and has urged prompt action to identify and prosecute the culprits. The organisation has also called for an inquiry into the possible role of digital service providers and theatre chains in the leaks. Both films are now available on OTT platforms. Pawan Kalyan fans threaten action in case of disruption to screening of his movie ‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu'
Ahead of the release of the Pawan Kalyan movie 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu' and the rumblings in the film industry, his fans have threatened to jump into action if the 'industry stalwarts' did anything that disrupted the screening of the film. Jana Sena Party's Tirupati constituency in-charge K. Kiran Rayal appealed to the governments in the two Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to bring the warring groups to the negotiating table and amicably settle the issue. He was referring to the call given by the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) to stall screening of films from June 1, a decision that however hangs in balance. Addressing a media conference here on Saturday, he made it clear that he was speaking as a fan and not on behalf of the party. 'Pawan Kalyan is known to serve people with the money earned through films. He doesn't keep anything for himself. If the current crisis results in any form of disruption to the film, we will not tolerate it,' Mr. Kiran Rayal warned. Pawan Kalyan fans are reportedly suspecting a foul play to hinder the successful run of the film.

Theatre exhibitors temporarily call off bandh ahead of the releases of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life and Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu
Exhibitors from the Telugu states – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh – have temporarily called off the single-screen theatres bandh after a crucial meeting between the exhibitors' association and leading Telugu film producers on Wednesday. The bandh, initially scheduled to begin on June 1, was announced by the exhibitors' association in protest over the ongoing dispute regarding the revenue-sharing model between producers and theatre owners. According to a report in Cinema Express, although the meeting did not result in a concrete resolution, exhibitors decided to defer the bandh in light of the potential business opportunity because of the release of two highly anticipated films – Kamal Haasan's Thug Life and Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which are set to hit theatres on June 5 and June 12, respectively. Why was the bandh called? On Sunday, exhibitors from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana issued a bandh notice announcing a complete shutdown of single-screen theatres starting from June 1. The decision came after a meeting of the exhibitors' association. The core issue stems from their dissatisfaction with the current rental-based revenue-sharing model. Exhibitors are demanding a return to the percentage-based model, which was followed until 2002. The percentage-based system, which was originally followed by exhibitors, ensured a fairer split of revenue. However, a few major Telugu producers replaced it with a rental system, a move that impacted single-screen theatre owners. After this, the distributors and exhibitors continued following rental model. Following the bandh announcement, Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce (TFCC) Chairman Dr. Pratani Ramakrishna Goud appealed to the governments of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to intervene. He urged them to reintroduce the percentage model, asserting that such a system would be mutually beneficial to producers, exhibitors, and distributors. About Thug Life and Hari Hara Veera Mallu Thug Life is a gangster drama that marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam after 38 years – the duo last collaborated on the iconic Nayakan (1987). The film also stars Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. With music composed by A. R. Rahman and cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran, the film has generated huge anticipation among fans. Hari Hara Veera Mallu, on the other hand, is a historical action-adventure film directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and A. M. Jyothi Krishna. The film features an ensemble cast including Pawan Kalyan, Bobby Deol, Nidhhi Agerwal, Nargis Fakhri, and Nora Fatehi in pivotal roles.
