Pro-Khalistan slogans were raised by activists of outfits, including the Dal Khalsa, former MP Simranjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), his associate and former MP Dhian Singh Mand, at the Akal Takht.
Operation Bluestar was a military operation carried out in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.

Officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, while reading 'ardas' (prayers as per Sikh rituals), said all Sikh outfits should unitedly apply untiring efforts for the release of '
Bandhi Singhs
' (Sikh prisoners).
Bandi Singhs are those Sikh prisoners, who parties like Shiromani Akali Dal and other Sikh bodies claim, were in jails even after completion of their sentences.
Harjinder Singh Dhami, who is president of the apex religious body of the Sikhs the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (
SGPC
), honoured the family members of Sikh leaders, who were killed along with Bhindranwale in the Golden Temple complex during the Army action in June 1984.
As per tradition, it was the Jathedar Akal Takht who every year honours the families of those who were killed in the army action, but this year it was done by the SGPC president.
Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma had earlier opposed the recent appointment of Gargaj as officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht in violation of 'maryada' and 'panthic traditions'.

TVK not alternate, but primary force that will win: Vijay
Madurai: The second state conference of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to be held in Madurai on Aug 21 will set the stage for 'Vaagai Soodum Varalaru Thirumbugiradhu: Vetri Peraniyil Tamil Nadu' (History of victory returns: Tamil Nadu on march to victory) election campaign, party founder Vijay said on Tuesday. The slogan is seen by some as alluding to former chief minister MGR's victory. In a statement, Vijay said the campaign will target the ideological and political enemies of TVK and aim for victory. "In Madurai, the place where three branches of the Tamil language were nurtured, without any compromises, we will fight against our ideological and political enemies and win this war for democracy," he said. He extended an open invitation to his supporters for the conference. The actor-turned politician said the goal of the conference was to cement the party's stance on creating good governance for the people of Tamil Nadu. "We are not an alternate force. We will show the world that we are a primary force that will reclaim victory," he added. Earlier, TVK general secretary N Anand told reporters that police have granted full permission for the conference venue at Parapatti after complying with certain guidelines and regulations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If Your Ears Ring, Stop Sleeping Like This Immediately Derila Ergo Undo "Police sought responses to 42 questions, for which we gave satisfactory replies. SGPC, DSGMC clash over Guru Tegh Bahadur martyrdom anniv
Amritsar: A war of words has erupted between the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) over the observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom anniversary, after SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami accused DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka of hastily announcing commemoration programmes without coordination with the SGPC. Kalka, in the recent past, wrote a letter to Dhami urging that the commemoration functions should be held jointly, which would reflect the spirit of Panthic unity. "Since Guru Sahib attained martyrdom at the site of Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi, the main functions will be centred there," the letter stated, while adding that these commemoration events will be presided over by the SGPC. Responding to this, Dhami on Tuesday questioned, "Why was Kalka's proposal limited to a letter while he was independently announcing programmes and holding meetings with different organisations?" Dhami said that the DSGMC president should not have hastily announced his own programmes, but rather coordinated with the SGPC. In reply to Dhami's response, Kalka said that DSGMC requested the SGPC president to play the role of an elder brother in organising the 350th martyrdom anniversary commemorations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib. He said, in the recent past, he held meetings with various Panthic organisations in Amritsar during which the representatives of the SGPC were also present, who assured that they would not create any disruption in the events being organised by the DSGMC. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brandi's Journey: Life After Storage Wars Paperela Undo DSGMC general secretary, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, said DSGMC has the primary right to organise the 350th martyrdom commemorations of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, as both the Guru's martyrdom and his final rites took place in Delhi. Citing this, he said the DSGMC sought support from all Panthic institutions and sects, who, in turn, assured their full cooperation. Giving further details, Kalka said that with the support of the Sangat, the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib will be commemorated on a grand scale, in a way that will be remembered across the world. The historic events will be held not only at Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, the site of Guru Sahib's martyrdom, and Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, where his last rites were performed, but also at the Red Fort. These events will witness participation from the country's top leadership, he claimed. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). NYC Mayoral race: From Zohran Mamdani to Eric Adams - What the latest poll reveals?
New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani holds a strong lead in the race, according to a recent Siena poll of registered voters. Mamdani is leading the poll at 44 per cent, while former Governor Andrew Cuomo running as an independent, trails at 25 per cent. Republican Curtis Sliwa stands at 12 per cent and current Mayor Eric Adams is at 7 per cent. Siena pollster Steven Greenberg in a press release on Tuesday said that 53 per cent of City Democrats support Mamdani compared to 32 per cent for Cuomo, with the other candidates receiving single-digit support. Among City Republicans, over two-thirds back Sliwa. Independent voters in the city are divided, with 30 per cent supporting Mamdani and 20 per cent supporting Adams. "City voters under 35 are overwhelmingly supporting Mamdani, as are a plurality of voters 35-54, however, voters 55 and older back Cuomo over Mamdani, 38-32 per cent," Greenberg added. Mamdani, appearing in the Siena poll for the first time, has a 46 per cent favorability rating among New York City voters but a lower 28 per cent favorability statewide, as reported by Fox News. Cuomo, who resigned as governor and lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani is facing serious favorability issues. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Stylish New Mobility Scooters Available for Seniors (Prices May Surprise You) Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Search Now Undo "Cuomo has an underwater favorability rating with City voters, 37-54 per cent, and an even worse 29-61 per cent favorability rating with statewide voters, the worst ever favorability rating for Cuomo in a Siena poll. In fact, among Democrats statewide, Cuomo's favorability rating is 36-56 per cent, down from 51-39 per cent in March," he said. Mayor Eric Adams, now running as an independent, also struggles with favorability. Last year, the department of justice charged him with bribery, conspiracy and campaign finance crimes, but the case was dropped later. Adams is showing himself as a strong supporter of law enforcement, especially after the office shooting at 345 Park Avenue last month. However, his ratings remained underwater in the city (30 per cent favorable, 58 per cent unfavorable) and statewide (22 per cent favorable, 51 per cent unfavorable). Republican Curtis Sliwa has a 26 per cent favorable rating statewide and 30 per cent favorable in the city. The recent poll is drawing a lot of attention because Mamdani's win was a surprise against Cuomo. As the Democratic nominee, Mamdani supports several far-left ideas. He is currently touring the city campaigning against President Donald Trump . "There is no borough that will be free from Trump's cruelty," Mamdani said. "We will feel the pain of this legislation, whether we are in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens or Staten Island, and we will shine a light this week and every week on the costs of this vision that is coming out of Washington, DC" Cuomo, Adams and Sliwa have criticized Mamdani on issues such as policing and rent control. Cuomo even proposed "Zohran's Law" after it was revealed that Mamdani lives in a rent-stabilized apartment. The mayoral election will take place on November 4 this year.
