Pro-Khalistan slogans were raised by activists of outfits, including the Dal Khalsa, former MP Simranjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), his associate and former MP Dhian Singh Mand, at the Akal Takht.
Operation Bluestar was a military operation carried out in 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.

Harjinder Singh Dhami, who is president of the apex religious body of the Sikhs the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (
SGPC
), honoured the family members of Sikh leaders, who were killed along with Bhindranwale in the Golden Temple complex during the Army action in June 1984.
As per tradition, it was the Jathedar Akal Takht who every year honours the families of those who were killed in the army action, but this year it was done by the SGPC president.
Damdami Taksal chief Harnam Singh Dhumma had earlier opposed the recent appointment of Gargaj as officiating Jathedar of Akal Takht in violation of 'maryada' and 'panthic traditions'.

SGPC, DSGMC clash over Guru Tegh Bahadur martyrdom anniv
Amritsar: A war of words has erupted between the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) over the observance of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom anniversary, after SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami accused DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka of hastily announcing commemoration programmes without coordination with the SGPC. Kalka, in the recent past, wrote a letter to Dhami urging that the commemoration functions should be held jointly, which would reflect the spirit of Panthic unity. "Since Guru Sahib attained martyrdom at the site of Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Delhi, the main functions will be centred there," the letter stated, while adding that these commemoration events will be presided over by the SGPC. Responding to this, Dhami on Tuesday questioned, "Why was Kalka's proposal limited to a letter while he was independently announcing programmes and holding meetings with different organisations?" Dhami said that the DSGMC president should not have hastily announced his own programmes, but rather coordinated with the SGPC. New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani holds a strong lead in the race, according to a recent Siena poll of registered voters. Mamdani is leading the poll at 44 per cent, while former Governor Andrew Cuomo running as an independent, trails at 25 per cent. Republican Curtis Sliwa stands at 12 per cent and current Mayor Eric Adams is at 7 per cent.
