ATP relocating tournament from Serbia to Greece

Reuters04-08-2025
August 4 - The ATP Tour announced Monday that the Nov. 2-8 tournament in Belgrade, Serbia, is relocating to Athens, Greece.
No official reason was given. Serbian media reported that Novak Djokovic and his family, who run the tournament, are behind the move.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion recently expressed his support for students protesting government corruption in his native Serbia.
Djokovic's brother, Djordje, has been the director of the ATP 250 tournament in the Serbian capital since 2021.
The tournament in Athens, dubbed the Hellenic Championship, will be played on an indoor hard court at the OAKA Basketball Arena.
"ATP 250 Hellenic Championship is organized by the experienced team behind nine previous international tournaments in Belgrade. This latest project builds on that legacy, with preparations well underway to deliver a world-class event in the historic city of Athens," read a statement from tournament organizers.
"We look forward to welcoming the tennis world to Greece this November."

Tennis star collapses on court due to heat in worrying scenes before being forced to retire at Cincinnati Open

TENNIS star Arthur Rinderknech collapsed on court during his match with Felix Auger-Aliassime at the Cincinnati Open. Players have struggled with the intense heat at the event so far this tournament. 2 2 During Monday's play, temperatures in Mason, Ohio - where the tournament takes places, soared as high as 32C. Rinderknech and Auger-Aliassime had played a tight first set, with the Canadian pinching it in a tiebreak. With Auger-Aliassime about to serve at 2-2 in the second set, Rinderknech fell down. The Frenchman had been trudging towards the back of the court. After grabbing a towel from a ballboy, Rinderknech wiped his face before sinking to the ground. As the 30-year-old lay on his back, breathing deeply, both Auger-Aliassime and the umpire jogged over to check whether he was okay. After being checked on by supervisor Nacho Forcadell and a member of tournament staff, Rinderknech was able to rise to his knees. THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY.. Uefa regulations around multi-club ownership and European competitions are in place to prevent the governing body's rulebook, a club is required to prove they are not "simultaneously involved in any capacity whatsoever in the management, administration, and/or sporting performance of more than one club participating in a Uefa club competition".Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who also controls Greek side Olympiakos, avoided regulations around multi-club ownership by diluting his control of the Premier League side, which was announced in Textor took similar steps to help Crystal Palace's prospects of playing in the Europa League by agreeing to sell his stake to New York Jets owner Johnson in there were no sanctions to avoid and no case to answer for Forest - they fell short in their Champions League challenge and are therefore not in the same competition as Olympiakos.

Watch as sacked Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou ‘lives his best life' getting hand-fed steak Salt Bae-style

ANGE POSTECOGLOU is enjoying life away from football, with video emerging of him enjoying steak fed to him in the style of viral chef Salt Bae. Postecoglou was sacked by Spurs in early June following a topsy-turvy season for the north London side. 6 6 The Australian led the team to a 17th-place finish last season, their lowest ever in the Premier League era. However, Postecoglou also brought Spurs their first significant silverware since their 2007/08 League Cup victory, in the form of a Europa League trophy. That accolade could not save him from the sack in the end, but it seems like he has taken his sudden abundance of free time in stride. A video has emerged of Postecoglou dining at Sta Kala Kathoumena on the Greek isle of Paros. 6 6 In the video, uploaded to TikTok by celebrity chef Stefanos Saratsis, the football manager can be seen sat down for a meal with a huge steak laid on the table before him. Saratsis dramatically slices the steak into ribbons before spearing a section onto his knife and seasoning it. Postecoglou watches on with an awkward smile as the chef turns towards him with the steak in tow. The 59-year-old is fed the steak off of the knife's tip, and gestures his approval to the chef before the video's end. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS 6 6 The theatrical dining experience is a staple of Saratsis' restaurant chain, which also has locations in Athens and Thessaloniki. The themed style of dining was popularised by internet personality Salt Bae, who has since opened his own successful chain of restaurants.
