Did Notre Dame football tease its starting defensive during Sunday's scrimmage?
A full-team scrimmage took place on Sunday and The Athletic's Pete Sampson shared who was out with the first-team defense. Starting with the defensive line, it was Joshua Burnham, Jason Onye, Donovan Hinish, and Boubacar Traore. It's all new full-time starters here, but many of them have play an extensive amount in their careers.
Another promising aspect of this group is that it looks like Traore has fully recovered from his ACL injury suffered last fall. The second-team consisted of Junior Tuihalamaka, Gabriel Rubio, Bryce Young and Jared Dawson. Expect all four of these linemen to get plenty of run this fall even though they aren't considered starters right now.
The linebackers were Drayk Bowen, and Jaylen Sneed, which shouldn't come as a surprise. Bowen was the starter last fall, and Sneed has been coming on during camp and looks to have taken an early lead over Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa and Jaiden Ausberry. With a two-linebacker rotation, you're going to see plenty of these top four during the season.
As for the secondary, the first-team was Leonard Moore, Christian Gray, DeVonta Smith, Luke Talich and Adon Shuler. This group looks like one of the best in the country, and it was a bit surprising that Smith and Talich were with the 1's. The second-team was Dallas Golden, Mark Zackery, Jalen Stroman, Tae Johnson and Carson Hobbs. This group could start at many other top programs.
The depth is impressive along the defense, as it is expected that there shouldn't be much drop off with a change at defensive coordinator from Al Golden to Chris Ash.

Report: Odell Beckham Jr. "has drawn interest," plans to play in 2025
Some things require seeing to be believed. One such thing is the future playing career of receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He has been forgotten since being released by the Dolphins during the 2024 regular season. Recently, he reminded the world that he's still interested in playing, by responding to a fake report indicating that Beckham had retired. Boosting Beckham's claim is this report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Media/ESPN*, which looks and feels like a favor for an agent: 'Three-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. has drawn interest from several teams and plans to play somewhere in 2025, per source. As OBJ posted himself, he is not retiring, and he continues to train in anticipation of being on the field soon.' If he has drawn interest from several teams, why isn't he on one? Two years ago, the Ravens surprisingly overpaid him $15 million guaranteed on a one-year deal, in a move that may have paved the way to get quarterback Lamar Jackson to agree to terms on a five-year contract. Last year, the Dolphins paid Beckham a fraction of that — and it never clicked. Healthy when released after the trade deadline, Beckham's name was not mentioned once as a candidate to join a contender during the playoff run. Now, nine months after he became a free agent, he's suddenly in demand? Again, we'll believe it when we see it. Beckham started his career with Hall of Fame numbers through three seasons. Then, the decline began. And while Beckham was on track to be the Super Bowl LVI MVP before his knee with a pre-torn ACL gave out, he hasn't had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, his first year with the Browns. Last year, he had nine catches for 55 yards in nine games. It had seemed to be a foregone conclusion that his time in the NFL had ended. Maybe it hasn't. Again, we'll believe it when we see it.

Regardless of which QB starts for Notre Dame, you have to trust Mike Denbrock's decision
Year 2 has always proved to be the best for offenses under Mike Denbrock, we will see the same this year for the Irish. ☘️History of rankings for each team Denbrock was an OC for points per game, yards per play, and effiency (BD = Before Denbrock) When Notre Dame lured LSU offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock to South Bend, it was seen as a major win for head coach Marcus Freeman and his program. The consensus is that he is one of the best offensive gurus in the country, if not the best, and has a tough decision ahead of him with CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey. The most recent rumors have trended to the 'older' Minchey, but as of today, no starter has been announced. This isn't the first time he's entered a season with a question mark surrounding the position, as in 2022 with the Tigers, Denbrock had to make a choice between Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier. It's pretty safe to say that he made the right choice, as Daniels had a massive season and ultimately won the Heisman Trophy before going to the Washington Commanders as the No. 2 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft. That decision alone should give Notre Dame fans plenty of trust in who Denbrock will choose. There are plenty of pro's and con's for both Carr and Minchey, but the Irish's offensive coordinator has shown that the choice is in very good hands.
