Steven Gerrard branded 'obvious choice' by major Rangers shareholder
The major shareholder reckons the Liverpool legend has "unfinished business" at Ibrox and should be under consideration to take over this summer.
He told The Rangers Review: 'I'd be very surprised if they haven't spoken to him because Steven is the obvious choice.
'I think I know him well enough to fairly accurately state it would be unfinished business for him.
'Steven left at a time he didn't want to leave. That's a fact. And the team was still top of the league at the time that he left. He wanted to defend that title. I think he would have defended the title had he stayed.
'So from Steven's personal point of view and where he is at the moment, I think he'd love nothing more than to come back to the club and take on the challenge of restoring the club. And it's not just about one title because the project that we hope we're starting now is a project to make Rangers the dominant number one team in Scotland.
'It's not about winning another league title. It's about really putting Rangers back at the top. This is a project. It's not a one-off. And I think Steven would be perfect for that.
'So I'd be very surprised if they haven't spoken to Steven because he's, as I say, he's by far the least risky candidate to give new money to, by far the least risky candidate.'

King was heavily involved in bringing Gerrad to Rangers back in 2018 and reckons he is the "outstanding choice" for the job again.
Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti have also been linked with the vacant post at Ibrox.
However, King is keen to see Gerrard back at the helm at Ibrox with the Liverpool hero currently out of the dugout after leaving Al Ettifaq.
He added: 'Steven would be by far the outstanding choice if any contractual issues could be sorted out.
'With Steven there's other things that have to be negotiated. I think he's having his first granddaughter, but Glasgow's not that far from Liverpool. If he was in Dubai, I think that would be different.
'He still has his contract, so I think there will still be issues to deal with. I don't know what the situation was when he left Saudi. But I think by far the least risky option is bringing Steven in if they could get that across the line."

Florian Wirtz verdict given as Liverpool play hardball in transfer negotiations
Arne Slot is expected to have a busier summer thn his first at Anfield, with the Liverpool boss aiming to add quality to a squad which won the Premier League tiwh time to spare Liverpool are closing in on their first summer signings as they look to prepare for a title defence. That's excluding the swoop for Giorgi Mamardashvili, whose arrival from Valencia was confirmed last summer. There will be no move for Dean Huijsen despite early links, with the Bournemouth centre-back choosing Real Madrid. Huijsen's team-mate Milos Kerkez looks to be Anfield-bound, though, with a fee of £45million mooted. The other full-back position is also going to be a priority, with Trent Alexander-Arnold on his way. That deal is more or less done, though, with the Reds meeting Jeremie Frimpong's Bayer Leverkusen release clause. Fans will have their own opinions about what else needs to happen, though. That goes for exits as well as arrivals, with Darwin Nunez among those who could move on in the coming weeks. Whatever happens, though, we'll have you covered. Here are Mirror Football 's latest transfer lines from around Anfield with the summer window just days away. Reds not budging over Kelleher Brentford are among the clubs looking at Caoimhin Kelleher, but Liverpool don't want to lose the Irishman on the cheap. According to The Athletic, they want north of £20m for the keeper despite him entering the final year of his deal. 'I think I've said it before as well that like, I feel like I'm a number one and I feel like I'm good enough to play week in, week out. That's what I'm looking to do," Kelleher told Optus Sport after the Reds' title win, indiciating he's ready to move on after Giorgi Mamardashvili's arrival. Brentford's interest comes as Bayer Leverkusen continue to look at their current number one Mark Flekken. Leverkusen have appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager, and current number one keeper Lukas Hradecky will turn 36 this year. Wirtz told he's making right move Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Didi Hamann believes compatriot Florian Wirtz is making the right move by choosing the Reds over other potential suitors. Wirtz is expected to join Liverpool in a club record move, worth upwards of £85m. "Florian Wirtz has made a decision. I believe it's the right one," the Champions League winner told Sky Sports Germany. "Things are really happening at Liverpool under Arne Slot. They'll sign, or want to sign, two or three other players, from what I hear. That's why I think Wirtz has made a very good decision." Former Reds star eyed by Wrexham Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings is among the free agents being eyed by Wrexham after their promotion to the Championship. The England international will leave West Ham this summer after two-and-a-half years in Easrt London. According to The Mail, Ings is one of two Hammers linked with a move to North Wales, along with left-back Aaron Cresswell. Phil Parkinson's side have also been linked with a big-money wage offer to Fulham captain Tom Cairney, though the Scot could yet remain at Craven Cottage. Ings, 32, found himself on the fringes in his final West Ham season with just one start in the league. He didn't make it onto the pitch in any of the last 10 matches under Graham Potter, and wasn't even in the matchday squad for six of those games.

Real Madrid 'accelerate talks' over early Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer as Xabi Alonso aims to get outgoing Liverpool star in for Club World Cup
Liverpool over an early transfer for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the hope that he can play for Los Blancos at this summer's Club World Cup. The Spanish giants are said to be keen for the right back before his contract officially expires on June 30. However, Liverpool are determined to hold out for a fee if the Reds are to release him early, given that he will depart his boyhood side as a free agent. According to a report from The Times on Thursday night, Real's desire to seal Alexander-Arnold's arrival could see a deal completed within the next 24 hours. Xabi Alonso - who replaced Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital following the latter's decision to manage the Brazil national team - wants the 26-year-old in his squad for their first match of the new tournament against Al-Hilal in Miami on June 18. Alexander-Arnold could be allowed to move thanks to the creation of a special transfer window by FIFA from June 1 to June 10 specifically for the Club World Cup. Figures at Real are said to want him to officially be their player before he joins up with the England squad next week ahead of the Three Lions' World Cup qualifier against Andorra and their subsequent friendly with Senegal. That comes after Liverpool rejected an approach from Los Merengues to sign Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window. The Reds refused to enter into negotiations over Alexander-Arnold leaving early given their focus on the Premier League, which they eventually won at a canter. That was despite a willingness from Real to fork out £20million for his services six months ago. The impending arrival of Alexander-Arnold follows the major coup Real pulled off by announcing Alonso as their new manager. Regarded as one of the most gifted coaches in world football, he has already welcomed defender Dean Huijsen to the club after Real triggered his £50million release clause to see him sign from Bournemouth. Alonso - who played for both Liverpool and Real during a fine career as a central midfielder - will officially assume his new post on June 1. He will sign a three-year contract, which runs until June 2028. The Spaniard had been heavily linked with the club after impressing in his first job in management at Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. In his first season at the helm in 2023-24, he guided them to the title unbeaten, as they failed to lose a single game. The resulting vacancy at Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly expected to be filled by ex-Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, with the Dutchman having been out of management since he was sacked by the Red Devils in October. He was dismissed earlier this season with Man United lying 14th in the Premier League after winning just four of their opening 14 matches.

Bayern Munich's Florian Wirtz statement speaks volumes after Liverpool U-turn
Liverpool are making progress in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz, despite Bayern Munich long being considered the frontrunners for his sought-after signature Liverpool's stealthy approach when pursuing Florian Wirtz has helped them steal a march on Bayern Munich in the race to sign him. Wirtz, 22, is understood to be leaning towards a move to the Reds, even though Bayern had been the favourites for months. Anfield chiefs recently sat down for a meeting with Wirtz and his parents near Blackpool, impressing them with their vision for the German playmaker. Talks are now underway with Bayer Leverkusen about what kind of deal it would take to prise Wirtz away. For a time, it looked as if Manchester City would be Bayern's main competitors for the Leverkusen star but Liverpool emerged from the shadows while City backed out over financial concerns. It's that quiet charm offensive, a contrast to Bayern's noisier approach, which appears to have made the difference. Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has been speaking about Wirtz's prospective move to Merseyside, revealing a key aspect of negotiations. "I think the Wirtz family was also impressed by how they (Liverpool) handled it," Hamann told Bild. "Discreetly, quietly, all in the background." Bayern's approach couldn't be more different. Various club chiefs have been speaking about Wirtz for weeks, potentially muddying the waters for a deal, having been asked to pay £126million. Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen recently pointed at their involvement in the Club World Cup as a reason why the 22-year-old should join them instead of Liverpool. "Much more has been written than spoken," Dreesen told Munich newspaper Tageszeitung via the ECHO. "FC Bayern is one of the absolute top clubs in Europe and the world. Our appeal among fans, but also among players, is enormous. The fact that not every player will end up with us is simply part of the package; it's the same for other top clubs. "But everyone knows: with FC Bayern, you can win everything every year, you're involved in every competition – the upcoming Club World Cup is a good example of that. "Just look at which clubs are represented there – and, most of all, which (clubs) aren't. The best European clubs are competing there - including FC Bayern. Our appeal, sporting ambitions, and economic power are well known to all top players around the world." Club president Herbert Hainer has also been candid on Bayern's pursuit, telling Abendzeitung: "[Director of sport] Max Eberl has informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool. I can't say how things will continue with Leverkusen."
