Will implement Centre's schemes in Delhi: Shivraj Singh Chouhan to farmers

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Wednesday met farmers from different parts of Delhi in Tigipur village and assured them that all of the Centre's agricultural welfare schemes will be implemented in the Capital soon. Addressing a gathering of farmers from the city's rural belts, Chouhan said, 'Delhi's farmers were left out of the central government's schemes earlier due to the previous government. The state government has to send us a proposal… I have spoken to the Chief Minister, and she will soon send a proposal to ensure these are rolled out.' Chouhan is on the last leg of his 15-day programme, Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, under which he has travelled to 14 states already and is interacting with farmers directly. 'There is great demand for fruits and vegetables in Delhi. If agriculture is strengthened here, it will not just benefit the city but also ensure India's economy grows — because even today, half our population is dependent on farming,' he said. Farmers present at the event raised several concerns, including high electricity costs, lack of subsidies, and no retail outlets for fertilisers. 'We don't get any subsidy. And if there is, the process is too complicated to understand,' said a farmer. Another noted that tractors with Delhi registration numbers are charged commercial tax, which increases their input cost, so farmers have to purchase tractors from neighbouring Haryana. A mushroom farmer from Tigipur, cultivating on just two acres, said he spends Rs 40 lakh a year and makes Rs 10-15 lakh in profit by selling directly to Azadpur mandi and contracting with factories. A strawberry grower, with 10 acres under cultivation, said he earns Rs 12-13 lakh per acre. 'We plant strawberries in October and inter-crop it with sweet corn and capsicum later. We sell to Reliance, BigBasket and local mandis,' he said. 'There are some farmers who are doing very well and earning a lot. We also need to learn their best practices' Chouhan said at the chaupal. The cost of inputs remains a problem for farmers of the national capital. 'Agriculture doesn't exist in Delhi for the government. So, our electricity is charged at commercial rates, which is extremely high,' said another farmer. 'There is also no IFFCO shop in Delhi from where we can buy fertilisers,' another said. Chouhan said the government is planning to adopt a 'One Nation, One Farm, One Team' approach. 'Policies must not be made sitting in offices. The agriculture department, research scientists, and agricultural universities must go to villages and speak to farmers. Only then can we find solutions together,' he added. Meet Mukesh Ambani's Reliance employee who receives more salary than Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani; his name is..., his father is...

We constantly hear Mukesh Ambani being celebrated for Reliance Industries' remarkable success, while his children, Anant, Isha, and Akash Ambani, are portrayed as pushing forward the legacy with energy and vision. What many may not know is that Mukesh's nephews, Nikhil and Hital Meswani, have been just as integral to the history of the organization's growth. Their impact behind the scenes has been as important to developing Reliance into the behemoth it is today. Nikhil and Hital Meswani are indeed Reliance Industries' highest-paid employees. The two are not as visible, but behind the scenes, have been a driving force in organising, directing, and leading the areas of petrochemicals and refining that are the foundations of Reliance's large business. Nikhil Meswani and Hital Meswani, nephews of Mukesh Ambani, are the highest-paid employees at Reliance Industries. According to the company's annual report for FY 2022–23, each of them earned Rs 25 crore, which includes a commission of Rs 17.28 crore. In comparison, Mukesh Ambani drew a salary of Rs 15 crore, while Isha Ambani's estimated earnings stood at Rs 4.2 crore. The two brothers lead Reliance's petrochemicals and refining businesses. Nikhil and Hital are the sons of Reliance's founding director Rasiklal Meswani, whose wife, Trilochanaben, was the elder sister of Dhirubhai Ambani. Mukesh Ambani has kept his salary fixed at ₹15 crore since 2008–09 and even opted to forgo his salary during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–22. On the other hand, Isha Ambani, who serves as a non-executive director at Reliance Retail and Jio, earns primarily through dividends and assets. Unlike her, Nikhil and Hital's earnings are directly linked to Reliance's profits. With the company's revenue surpassing $100 billion in 2024–25, the brothers' salaries have seen a significant rise. Nikhil Meswani and Hital Meswani hold the position of Executive Director at Reliance Industries. While Nikhil has played a vital role in enhancing the petrochemicals division, Hital is known for his contribution to Reliance Industries' refining and marketing functions. In FY 2022–23, the two's salary of ₹ 25 crore was comprised of a basic salary of ₹ 6.72 crore with the remainder being commission — contingent on Reliance's performance. The company runs the world's largest refinery based in Jamnagar, and has enjoyed tremendous growth. Both brothers are nephews of Mukesh Ambani, and their father, Rasiklal Meswani, is renowned for laying the foundations of the company.

SEBI mandates dedicated UPI address for registered intermediaries

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is set to introduce a validated UPI handle for the investor-facing intermediaries to ensure secure payments and combat fraud. The handle will be '@valid' and is expected to come into force from October 1, 2025. The initiative comes into force after consultation with various stakeholders, including NPCI. 'To make it convenient for investors to identify, the UPI address of intermediaries shall use a unique and easily relatable handle '@valid', combined with the name of the self-certified syndicate banks. These handles will be allocated by NPCI. For example, the complete handle, for a registered broker, will respectively look like: SEBI said in its circular. A valid payment will show a thumbs-up symbol within a green triangle to ensure awareness among the non-English speaking population. 'This means that 8000 to 9000 intermediaries including brokers, bankers to an issue, research analysts, investment advisors among others, will have to transition to the new UPI handle to collect payments and fees,' said Prabhas Kumar Rath, Chief General Manager, Deparment of Economic and Policy Analysis (DEPA) said in a media interaction. No existing SIP will be affected, and the old IDs will be discontinued from December 11, 2026, SEBI said in the circular. 'SEBI plans to run campaigns for investor awareness and cyber fraud over the next two years, for which the budget and intent are present,' said Chairperson Tuhin Kanta Pandey. Intermediaries have been instructed to create awareness about the new initiatives and also display them prominently. However, investors will have to verify the IDs and make sure that they transact only with verified intermediaries, and they can do this through another new tool called the SEBI Check application. Investors can check the validity of the accounts where they have to pay through the SEBI Check app. The regulator plans to collaborate with Google Playstore to make sure that only valid apps are platformed.
