Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: BMC Launches Online Permit System For Mandals

With the digital method, Ganeshotsav mandal organisers will no longer need to make separate visits to local police stations or traffic departments to get no-objection certificates.
Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Ganeshotsav, is among the most celebrated Hindu festivals in India, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the deity of wisdom and prosperity. It's a 10-day festival, typically falling between August and September, marked by the installation of Ganesha idols in homes and public spaces, followed by prayers, cultural events, and culminating in a grand procession for immersion in water. This year, it will be celebrated on August 27 and will conclude with Ganesh Visarjan on September 6.
With just a few days left for the popular festival, the preparations for huge Mandals are going on in full swing, especially in Maharashtra. This year, to speed up the procedure, the BMC began granting pavilion permits using a computerised single-window system on its official website: https://portal.mcgm.gov.in/irj/portal/anonymous.
How to Apply?
For the official permission, Mandals can visit the official portal, click on the Apply link under the For citizens section, and choose the Mandap (Public Ganeshotsav/Navratri/Other Festivals) option to begin their application.
Benefit
This indicates that the Ganeshotsav mandal organisers will no longer need to make separate visits to local police stations or traffic departments to get no-objection certificates (NOCs), as the BMC will handle this internally under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners and Zonal Deputy Commissioners.
Taking the environment into consideration, the civic authority has ordered mandals to avoid digging roads and pathways when building pandals. Instead, they are encouraged to use pothole-free construction methods. If digging is found, the mandal will be charged restoration costs as well as a penalty per pothole. Also, they have been advised to install eco-friendly idols and use natural materials for decoration and displays.
In addition to this, the Mumbai civic body has delivered 907 tonnes of Shadu clay to sculptors for free and provided 979 idol makers with temporary workspace. Also, it has spoken with the Divisional Commissioner of Konkan to ensure adequate supply of materials and support to artists in the region, from where numerous idols are transported to Mumbai for sale.
Recently, Maharashtra declared Ganeshotsav as a State Festival or Rajya Utsav.

Aaj Ka Panchang, July 24, 2025: Today is the combination of Amavasya Tithi and Thursday, which is considered to be extremely important from a religious and spiritual point of view. Amavasya, especially in the month of Ashadha, is best for Pitru Tarpan, Daan, and Shradh rituals. This date is considered to be good for the peace of the soul of ancestors, the removal of defects, and spiritual purification. Actions like fasting, meditation, and holy bathing give auspicious results on this day. Today's Nakshatra is Pushya, which is called the best of all Nakshatras and the 'King of Nakshatras". Work done in Pushya Nakshatra, especially religious or economic, brings stability and prosperity. Yoga Vajra, which is till 07:28:46 am, will be followed by the entry of another yoga. Vajra Yoga requires restraint and discretion, as this time can be full of slightly conflicting energy. The Moon is in Cancer today, which is associated with emotional depth, family attachment, and compassion. In such a situation, it will be necessary to maintain emotional balance. The season is the rainy season, which is believed to purify both nature and mind. Sunrise today will be at 06:08:37 AM and sunset at 07:25:51 PM. Moonrise will be at 05:19:34 AM and moonset at 07:21:50 PM. As per the Hindu calendar, this day falls under Shaka Samvat 1947 and Vikram Samvat 2082. In the Amamant system, this is the last day of Ashadha month, and as per the Purnimant system, Shravan month is about to begin. Hence, this day is also seen as a transition period, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one. Inauspicious Muhurats today are Rahu Kaal from 02:26:53 PM to 04:06:32 PM, Yamaganda Kaal from 06:08:37 AM to 07:48:16 AM, and Gulik Kaal from 09:27:55 AM to 11:07:34 AM — it would be beneficial to postpone important tasks during these times. At the same time, Abhijeet Muhurat from 12:21 PM to 01:13 PM will be especially auspicious for auspicious works. Overall, today is a good day for meditation, charity, and introspection. Performing Tarpan, Deepdaan, or Puja for ancestors will give auspicious results. Some caution is necessary at the beginning of new work, but every step taken with purity of mind, determination, and spiritual direction will prove to be especially fruitful today. Due to the absence of a bridge on the Banni Mata Nullah in Bharmour of Chamba district, schoolchildren put their lives in danger to reach their school everyday. (HT Photo) Due to sudden water flow in the nullah on Wednesday, the locals made the children cross the water body by carrying them on their backs. The children from villages Banni and Bhadra cross the nullah daily to reach Mandha School in Bharmour. Banni Mata Nullah is a stream near Banni Mata Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, located in Chamba district. The students of Mandha School of Bharmour are daily risking their lives to cross the nullah to reach the school. More than 25 students attend the Mandha Senior Secondary School by crossing this nullah, the water levels of which rises even after a light rain. Local residents say they have raised the issue several times and demanded construction of a bridge across the nullah, but it is turned down each time due to paucity of funds. Ward panch Ramesh Kumar said that they have been demanding construction of the bridge for a long time but nothing has been done so far. He said that the devotees who visit Banni Mata temple also have to cross the nullah. 'For the last two years I have been pushing for the construction of the bridge on the nullah but nothing has moved on the ground for lack of funds. The tenders have already been allotted but citing lack of funds the PWD department and local administration is not paying any heed,' said Janak Raj, a local MLA. Education minister Rohit Thakur said, 'The safety of the children is paramount. The issue has been brought to my notice and we will ensure the work of the construction of the bridge is done at the earliest.'
