will take place on Friday, 27 June 2025. The grand procession is held every year on the Dwitiya Tithi (second day) of the Shukla Paksha in the Ashadha month of the Hindu calendar.

ISKCON Rath Yatra on 29 June
As reported by TOI, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Prayagraj will hold its Rath Yatra on Sunday, 29 June 2025. The chariot procession will begin at 4:00 PM from Hira Halwai Crossing and conclude at KP Ground, passing through Subhash Chauraha and Hanuman Mandir.

Rath Yatra in Scotland
Followers of Lord Krishna recently celebrated Rath Yatra in Scotland too. The Indian Embassy in Scotland posted on X that the Vice Consul joined ISKCON's Rath Yatra in Edinburgh, where even the Lord Provost of Edinburgh took part in the tradition of sweeping the path before the chariot, a symbolic act of humility and devotion.

State to roll out 299 interstate buses for festivals
Patna: To ease festival travel for migrants and improve interstate connectivity, CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that the Bihar govt will operate 299 buses connecting the state to major destinations in neighbouring states. The initiative is expected to address the long-standing difficulties faced by migrant workers and residents returning home during major festivals such as Chhath, Holi, Diwali and Durga Puja. Taking to X, the CM wrote, "People from Bihar return home in large numbers from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and West Bengal during various festivals, especially Chhath, Holi, Diwali and Durga Puja. They face difficulties travelling to Bihar during these times. To ease their journey and provide convenience, our govt is making continuous efforts. As part of this, the state government will operate 299 AC and non-AC buses on inter-state routes connected to Bihar. " This plan was formally approved during the cabinet meeting held on June 24. An additional 150 AC buses will be operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. According to an official release from the transport department, the buses will primarily operate on routes to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and West Bengal. "This will provide safer, more accessible, and more reliable public transport for citizens, especially migrant workers," the statement said. Transport secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudkalkatti said the enhanced bus services would strengthen interstate public transport through the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC). "The operation of modern and comfortable buses will make travel more convenient, safe, and affordable. It will also generate local employment opportunities," he said. He added that the daily passenger capacity of the newly introduced fleet — comprising 75 AC and 74 non-AC deluxe buses — will be around 6,000. Additionally, 150 more AC buses are expected to be operational during peak seasons such as Durga Puja, Chhath and Holi. At present, BSRTC operates 17 buses to Ranchi and two to Jamshedpur. The new additions are expected to vastly expand the reach and efficiency of Bihar's interstate public transport system.

Pilgrims' progress & the railways' look-east policy
The holy city, the abode of Mahaprabhu, Jagannath Puri, is ready for the Rath Yatra. It is a journey of faith for the millions of devotees coming from across the globe. And Bhartiya Rail is at the service of these pilgrims, facilitating their overall experience in the Shreekshetra Puri. Bhartiya Rail, fondly called as the lifeline of the nation, remains committed to the service of all Indians including the pilgrims who consider Rath Yatra as their lifeline. (PTI) The last 11 years have been historic for Odisha's railway infrastructure development. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's purvodaya policy, Odisha's railway budget allocation has seen a 12-times jump to over ₹ 10,500 crore in 2025-26 as compared to the annual average during 2009-14. Since 2014, over 2,100 km of new tracks have been laid in Odisha, more than the entire rail network of Malaysia. Approximately ₹ 73,000 crore worth of projects for constructing new tracks in Odisha are ongoing: 59 Amrit stations are being developed, including 16 stations in aspirational districts; six Vande Bharat services covering 17 districts are operational. The most special contribution of Indian Railways to Odisha is during the Rath Yatra. The railways undertakes the task of serving lakhs of Rath Yatra pilgrims every year. Travel for the pilgrims has been eased. There has been a four times jump in the Rath Yatra special trains over the last 11 years. A total of 1,215 train services including 850 regular and 365 special train services are being provided this year for Jagannath Puri. These services connect many districts of Odisha including aspirational districts of Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Dhenkanal and interior tribal regions to Shreekshetra Puri. An AI-based real-time demand prediction system has enabled dynamic scheduling. 10 platforms are welcoming the pilgrims this year. Additional ticket counters have also been set up at Puri as well as other railway stations. With the spirit of seva parmo dharma (service is the highest duty) Bhartiya Rail ensures dignity, comfort, and security of the pilgrims during the Rath Yatra. This year marks one of the largest facilitation drives for inclusive pilgrimage travel. The Railways is ready to cater to around 20 lakh passengers with a daily peak of two lakh. A holding space with a capacity to accommodate 25,000 pilgrims has been designated. Adequate arrangements have been made to provide relief from the hot weather. Sufficient food stalls and water booths and coolers have been arranged. An estimated 2.5 lakh free meals will be served to the pilgrims. Sanitation and cleanliness arrangements including modern jet cleaning machines and sewage suction trucks are also in place. A much larger pool of security personnel have been deployed for ensuring safety and security of the pilgrims. They will be supported with CCTVs, drones, and face recognition systems. Accessibility needs of divyangjans (people with disabilities), elderly, women, and medically vulnerable pilgrims have also been taken care of. Medical booths with doctors and paramedics, ambulances, and first-aid counters have been set up. This year, Indian Railways has converted Puri station into a model of inclusive and faith-centred public service. A team of Indian Railways including engineers and technicians is also deployed at the Rath Yatra. This team is responsible for ensuring smooth movement and repair work of the chariots during the Yatra. The team assists in transporting the massive chariots from the construction site to Shree Jagannatha temple. The railways team uses the special screw jacks for ensuring proper positioning, alignment, and forward movement of the chariots on the designated path. It also helps in removing any obstacles and maintaining adequate distance between the chariots. The team accompanies the chariots till the completion of the Yatra. Bhartiya Rail is fondly called as the lifeline of the nation. It remains committed to the service of all Indians including the pilgrims who consider Rath Yatra as their lifeline. Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday reviewed the arrangements for the first Rath Yatra at the new Jagannath temple in the beach town of Digha in East Midnapore district. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reviews the preparation on the eve of Rath Yatra at Digha Jagannath temple, in Purba Medinipur on Thursday. (ANI) 'I personally supervised everything at the Jagannath Dham in Digha and held an administrative meeting with senior officials so that no untoward incident takes place,' Banerjee said in a post on social media on Thursday. Banerjee, who arrived at Digha on Wednesday, also walked the one-kilometre stretch along which the three chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Devi Subhadra will be pulled by devotees. She was accompanied by at least four ministers and around 50 senior officials, including the state director general of police and the chief secretary. Built as a cultural centre by the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO), the Jagannath temple was closed for the last 15 days following customs observed at the Jagannath temple at Puri in Odisha. It was reopened on Thursday. HIDCO decorated the chariots as well. Illuminated premises of the Jagannath Temple on the eve of the annual 'Rath Yatra' festival, at Digha, in Purba Medinipur district, (PTI) 'The puja and other rituals will begin at 9.30 am. The Rath Yatra will start in the afternoon. Barricades will be set up on both sides of the route to avoid a stampede-like situation,' Banerjee told reporters as thousands of believers and tourists arrived ahead of the weekend event. 'At least 250 buses have carried people from Kolkata since Wednesday. The number of passengers to the town has increased manifold ever since the temple was inaugurated on April 30,' said Suman Maity, joint secretary of the Joint Council of Bus Union. 'Digha was always a popular weekend destination for tourists. The footfall has swelled by at least 40% since May. The Rath Yatra has broken all records. Hotels have run out of accommodation,' Ashok Chanda, secretary of the New Digha Hotel Owners' Association, said. Banerjee oversaw the consecration ceremony at the new temple on April 30 that led Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition in the assembly, to launch a four-day Hindu religious conference at East Midnapore's Contai town around the same time. Adhikari accused Banerjee of passing off a cultural centre as a temple and alleged that people were having fish and meat out there and walking around in shoes. Built at a cost of around ₹ 250 crore, the temple is a replica of the ancient temple of Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Vishnu, at Puri, 350 km away. The Puri temple has been worshipped for centuries by Hindus as one of the Char Dhams (four abodes) of Lord Vishnu. The other three are at Badrinath, Dwarka and Rameswaram. 'The Digha temple is not a Dham. Mamata Banerjee is making fun of Hindus,' Adhikari said on Thursday. Bharatiya Janata Party leader Koustav Bagchi filed a public interest litigation (PIL) at the Calcutta high court in May, challenging the government's decision to appoint 100 civic volunteers for the temple. The chief minister sought to ignore the BJP's attacks on Thursday. 'I don't know religion. I know only people,' Mamata said.
