The New York Knicks will be heading into a completely new era of the franchise during the 2025-26 NBA season. Gone are the days of Tom Thibodeau leading the team. He was fired after the Knicks failed to defeat the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
To replace Thibodeau, New York went out and brought in Mike Brown. He will have a completely different philosophy than the one that the Knicks have seen in recent years.
Under Thibodeau, New York did not utilize much depth. He rode his starters hard, which resulted in injury issues quite often. With Brown leading the charge, the Knicks will need a much more rounded roster.

While those two moves will help the second unit, New York still needs to bring in two more players.
Keeping that in mind, the Knicks have now been linked to two intriguing potential targets late in the free agency market. There are still some good players available for New York to take a look at.
During a segment of his "The Zach Lowe Show," Zach Lowe spoke out with two potential targets to watch for the team.
"They [Knicks] only have 12 players on the team right now... They literally, by law of the NBA, have to sign more players," Lowe said. "I would keep my eye out on [Landry] Shamet. I would keep my eye out on [Malcolm] Brogdon, who both could be helpful."
Brogdon would be the bigger addition of the two players. He played in 24 games and made 13 starts with the Washington Wizards last season, averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. If fully healthy, he can make a bigger impact than that.

Shamet, on the other hand, played the 2024-25 season with the Knicks. He appeared in 50 games, averaging 5.7 points and shooting 39.7 percent from the three-point line.
It will be interesting to see what New York chooses to do to round out its roster. Brogdon would be a very intriguing pickup who could make a major impact off of the bench. Shamet could add perimeter shooting.
Expect to hear more about the Knicks in the near future. With a need for at least two more players, both of these names are worth keeping an eye on.

The Rockets are coming off a 52-30 season with the No. 2 record in the Western Conference, and considering the offseason additions of veterans like Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Clint Capela, Houston is among the initial championship favorites for the NBA's 2025-26 campaign. But part of the reason for that optimism isn't just the individual play of newly acquired veterans. The idea is that because Houston has a relatively young rotation featuring up-and-comers such as Sengun, Amen Thompson, Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason, and Reed Sheppard (all between 21 and 24 years old), the Rockets could have more room for internal growth than many of their competitors. As Sengun notes, the idea is that Durant's experience — in addition to the elite perimeter scoring and floor spacing that he almost always brings —can further boost the development of those young players. The Brooklyn Nets were one of the more active teams in the NBA this offseason as they are looking to tweak their roster while planning for the future. Brooklyn is still in the early stages of its rebuild so the team isn't necessarily looking to make it to the playoffs next season, but the view of the team from pundits suggests that next season could be a tough one. John Schuhmann recently published his power rankings for every team in the Eastern Conference and in his list, he had the Nets ranked as the worst team in the conference following their offseason moves. The most notable moves that Brooklyn made was selecting five players in the 2025 NBA Draft and trading Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for forward Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick. One of the more interesting parts about the Nets' performance during the 2024-25 season is that they finished with a 26-56 record despite beginning the campaign with a 9-10 record, putting them on pace to finish slightly below 40 wins on the season. Given that Brooklyn was hoping to get a high draft pick in the 2025 Draft, they eventually traded Dennis Schroder to the Golden State Warriors to start what would eventually be a harder push to the rebuild. Whether or not the Nets are hoping to improve on their record from the 2024-25 campaign, they are still hoping to improve on both sides of the floor, especially when it comes to efficiency on the offensive end. "They took 24% of their shots, the league's highest rate, in the last six seconds of the shot clock, according to Second Spectrum tracking. Their effective field goal percentage of 44.2% in the last six seconds ranked 25th," Schuhmann noted. As it stands, the Nets will be heading into next season with Nic Claxton at center, Porter at one of the forward spots, Egor Demin at point guard, and presumably Cam Thomas at the shooting guard spot. Brooklyn will be hoping that their rookies and young players make strides over the course of what could be another rough season from a wins and losses perspective. "Over the last 20 years, the 2014-15 Sixers had the highest percentage of their minutes (37%) that went to rookies, and only one of their nine rookies was a first-round pick. The Nets could certainly challenge that mark and maximize their odds for a higher selection than they got this year," Schuhmann wrote.
