Gone are the days of Tom Thibodeau leading the team. He was fired after the Knicks failed to defeat the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. To replace Thibodeau, New York went out and brought in Mike Brown. He will have a completely different philosophy than the one that the Knicks have seen in recent years. Under Thibodeau, New York did not utilize much depth. He rode his starters hard, which resulted in injury issues quite often. With Brown leading the charge, the Knicks will need a much more rounded roster. Keeping that in mind, the Knicks have now been linked to two intriguing potential targets late in the free agency market. There are still some good players available for New York to take a look at. During a segment of his "The Zach Lowe Show," Zach Lowe spoke out with two potential targets to watch for the team. "They [Knicks] only have 12 players on the team right now... They literally, by law of the NBA, have to sign more players," Lowe said. "I would keep my eye out on [Landry] Shamet. I would keep my eye out on [Malcolm] Brogdon, who both could be helpful." Brogdon would be the bigger addition of the two players. He played in 24 games and made 13 starts with the Washington Wizards last season, averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. If fully healthy, he can make a bigger impact than that. Read more: Report: Warriors Receive Massive Jonathan Kuminga Update Shamet, on the other hand, played the 2024-25 season with the Knicks. He appeared in 50 games, averaging 5.7 points and shooting 39.7 percent from the three-point line. It will be interesting to see what New York chooses to do to round out its roster. Brogdon would be a very intriguing pickup who could make a major impact off of the bench. Shamet could add perimeter shooting. Expect to hear more about the Knicks in the near future. With a need for at least two more players, both of these names are worth keeping an eye on. For more on the New York Knicks and general NBA news, head on over to Newsweek Sports.

Zach Lowe responds to Nets' Cam Thomas over 'consensus' spat

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas recently made headlines after addressing The Ringer's Zach Lowe over comments Lowe made in a recent episode of "The Zach Lowe Show" podcast. Lowe was pointing out what the consensus is on Thomas and his game, prompting Thomas to respond by dismissing the criticism. Once the dust settled, Lowe took the time to address the situation. "If Cam Thomas had listened to the subsequent 12 minutes, I don't think he did, but I don't know. He would have heard me deep-dive into his game and talk about career-high assists," Lowe said to colleague Rob Mahoney. While Thomas was within his right to address any criticism of him or his game, Lowe also spoke about Thomas for much longer than what was put on social media to provide context around the conversation. "Certain kind of passes that he's gotten meaningfully better at: Nick Claxton lobs, little dump-offs, and stuff like that," Lowe continued. "I have said consistently for two years of Cam Thomas dialogue that the guy can straight up get buckets and there is a place for him in the NBA. To me, that place is most likely sixth-man scoring burst guy, which is what I said in that 12-minute segment." As part of Lowe's discussion of Thomas, the former ESPN NBA commentator mentioned that Thomas is one of the most polarizing players in the NBA and how social media reacted to Lowe's comments proved that once again. Thomas, 23, is coming off the best season of his four-year career as he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. Thomas is currently a restricted free-agent this summer, meaning that he doesn't have much control over where he plays next season and with few NBA teams having ample cap space, Thomas may have to settle for what the Nets want to pay him. It's possible that Thomas is frustrated by his first foray into free-agency, something that Lowe understands, but Lowe also wanted to make it clear how he feels about the controversy and Thomas.

Nets' Cam Thomas pushes back against narrative he isn't impactful

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas is in the midst of his first foray into NBA free-agency ever since he came into the league as the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Thomas has been one of the more polarizing players that Brooklyn has had over the years and he took the time to respond to narratives about his game that he feels are incorrect. "The consensus on Cam Thomas — if there is one, and he's got some fans, and he's got some mega-detractors - but the consensus is kind of like empty calories ball hog," The Ringer's Zach Lowe said of Thomas during a recent episode of "The Zach Lowe Show." Lowe, accompanied by Nekias Duncan, co-host of "The Dunker Spot" podcast, was asking Duncan for his opinion of Thomas as he waits for his next contract in restricted free-agency. "The consensus? (Expletive) you and the consensus," Thomas said in his post on X responding to what Lowe said about what the consensus thinks about his game. "This is most likely the same consensus teams who can't guard me and send double teams from jump ball. Why are we double teaming a guy who's 'not that good' make it make sense please." Thomas, 23, heads in restricted free-agency after his best season in the NBA in which he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. While Thomas had a career-best season in 2024-25, he also played just 25 games as he dealt with a troublesome left hamstring that ended his season in March. Thomas, who has yet to be signed by Brooklyn or anyone else, has not been "significantly engaged" by the Nets regarding his next contract, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. Thomas' situation, while concerning to Brooklyn fans who want the guard to return to the Nets as soon as possible, doesn't seem to be entirely unusual given that all of the big-name restricted free-agents, like Thomas, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga and Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey, remain unsigned as well.

Lakers Make Final Decision on Andrew Wiggins, Heat Trade

Lakers Make Final Decision on Andrew Wiggins, Heat Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers have spent much of this offseason assessing how to reshape their roster around LeBron James and Luka Doncic. After adding center Deandre Ayton, upgrading wing depth and adding more two-way versatility have been major points of focus as they look to improve from their first-round exit last season and contend for a championship next year. Advertisement One name that kept surfacing in trade chatter was Andrew Wiggins. The Miami Heat forward, recently acquired from the Golden State Warriors in February, was said to have been a major target for LA all summer. Per ClutchPoints' Anthony Irwin, Miami fancied the possibility of trading the former No. 1 overall pick to the Lakers in exchange for Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, and draft assets. Speaking with Lowe, who claimed he 'didn't really understand those trade rumors' to begin with, Woike responded by saying the following: 'They're not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed.' Advertisement Wiggins, who was the Heat's return package in exchange for Jimmy Butler, is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range between his stints with Golden State and Miami. However, it now appears that the Lakers will not be looking in his direction as they perhaps continue to explore better fits to round out their wing rotation and bench depth. Woike: Lakers are not interested in trading for Andrew Wiggins

There have been rumors over the last couple of weeks or so that the Los Angeles Lakers have been trying to trade for Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins. Wiggins is a two-way veteran wing who averaged 18.0 points a game and shot 37.4% from 3-point range this past season, and he arrived in Miami in February as part of the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Wiggins was a big key to the Warriors winning the 2022 NBA championship, and that year, he started in the All-Star game. Plenty see him as potentially the missing piece for a Lakers team that is looking to become a championship contender again. A recent report indicated that Miami's asking price has been too high for L.A. According to one Heat beat writer, Wiggins is expected to be a member of the Heat once the new season starts. Dan Woike, who covers the Lakers for The Athletic, said on "The Zach Lowe Show" that the Lakers simply aren't interested in Wiggins. "They're not interested in Andrew Wiggins," Woike said. "I think I can put that to bed." It could very well be that their interest in Wiggins had disappeared if Miami had been asking for too much in return. It is also possible this is a smokescreen. Los Angeles could possibly have other options as far as trading for a 3-and-D wing. Anthony Irwin wrote that the team called to inquire about the availability of Matisse Thybulle, a 6-foot-5 wing who has a seven-foot wingspan and a career average of 1.6 steals in 20.9 minutes a game.
