Lakers Make Final Decision on Andrew Wiggins, Heat Trade
The Los Angeles Lakers have spent much of this offseason assessing how to reshape their roster around LeBron James and Luka Doncic. After adding center Deandre Ayton, upgrading wing depth and adding more two-way versatility have been major points of focus as they look to improve from their first-round exit last season and contend for a championship next year.

One name that kept surfacing in trade chatter was Andrew Wiggins. The Miami Heat forward, recently acquired from the Golden State Warriors in February, was said to have been a major target for LA all summer. Per ClutchPoints' Anthony Irwin, Miami fancied the possibility of trading the former No. 1 overall pick to the Lakers in exchange for Rui Hachimura, Dalton Knecht, and draft assets.

However, that speculation appears to be over after Dan Woike of the Athletic shut down the rumors for good on The Zach Lowe Show. Speaking with Lowe, who claimed he 'didn't really understand those trade rumors' to begin with, Woike responded by saying the following:
'They're not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed.'

Wiggins, who was the Heat's return package in exchange for Jimmy Butler, is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists, shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range between his stints with Golden State and Miami.
However, it now appears that the Lakers will not be looking in his direction as they perhaps continue to explore better fits to round out their wing rotation and bench depth.

McMillan said during the same appearance that James is a lot more confident than he was several months ago, and that it has resulted in him shooting the ball better from the perimeter. The 20-year-old didn't hit from 3-point range during summer league play, but he was clearly more poised with the basketball in his hands. If James does earn playing time this season, it would help the Lakers. They lack quality guard depth and could really use a legitimate 3-and-D guard who is a point-of-attack defender. That seems to be exactly the type of player James is becoming, and at least for now, his defense is the strongest aspect of his game. Like the Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga, the Bulls have their own restricted free agent to come to terms with before the start of the 2025-26 season in guard Josh Giddey. Giddey, a 22-year-old guard from Australia, is believed to be interested in staying in Chicago after his first season with the team. He was traded to the Bulls in a deal that sent guard Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2024 offseason. The Bulls guard had another improving season in the NBA with a struggling Chicago franchise. In 70 games in 2024-25, Giddey finished with averages of 14.6 points and career-highs in rebounds (8.1), assists (7.2), steals (1.2), and three-point percentage (37.8%). Although the two sides have a mutual interest in figuring out a deal to stay in Chicago, there's been a growing conflict in recent days over the annual amount of money Giddey will be paid. An offer that the Bulls have made is a deal that has him getting paid $20 million a year, but the 2021 lottery pick is looking for something closer to the $30-million-a-year range, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. As the season inches closer and no deal has been agreed upon, it's been mentioned that the Golden State Warriors are interested in a sign-and-trade deal for the Bulls' guard. "Golden State would be interested in, depending on how the machinations could go, some type of Josh Giddey, Jonathan Kuminga sign-and-trade, to my understanding," Fischer said in his podcast. Speculation says that Giddey and the Bulls are going to get a deal done, but if contract negotiations aren't agreed upon, the Warriors could be a place where he gets moved.
