Ops Gasak: Seven LPG misuse cases uncovered in Terengganu
BANDAR PERMAISURI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has uncovered seven cases involving the misappropriation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) since the launch of Ops Gasak on May 1, with total seizures amounting to RM68,065.07.
Terengganu KPDN Director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the cases were uncovered following inspections at 164 premises statewide as of yesterday (May 17), with Dungun recording the highest number at four cases, while Kuala Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu and Besut each reported one case.
'However, the largest seizure took place in Hulu Terengganu, where two lorries and 477 subsidised LPG cylinders worth RM65,676.20 were confiscated in Ajil last Wednesday.
'A man in his 40s, believed to be the owner of the LPG cylinders, was also detained to assist in the investigation,' he told reporters during the Firearms and Ammunition Training Exercise organised by Terengganu KPDN at the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) shooting range in Bukit Bidong Darat here today.
He said most of the cases involved abuse and misappropriation in the use of LPG under Regulation 3(1) and Regulation 13(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974.

Narathiwat court extends Eda Ezrin's detention for fourth time
KOTA BARU: The Narathiwat Provincial Court today granted a further one-month extension of detention against Malaysian dikir barat singer Eda Ezrin, marking the fourth such extension since her arrest in November last year. However, they were each sentenced to six months' jail and fined 4,000 baht (approximately RM520) for drug consumption—a sentence they had effectively served. The fines were later waived. Despite the acquittal, the group has not been released, as the prosecution still retains the right to appeal. Eda's mother, Zaharah Mamat, has publicly voiced her frustration and concern, revealing that she had sold personal belongings—including gold jewellery worth over RM26,000—to help cover mounting legal costs that now exceed RM65,000. The case continues to draw public attention in Malaysia.

Cooking oil packaging factory raided over use of illegal halal logo
IPOH: The Perak enforcement division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 5,540 kilogrammes of packet cooking oil, worth RM14,233, with a halal logo that is believed to be illegal. Its director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said the seizure was made during a raid, carried out in collaboration with the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), on a cooking oil packaging factory in the Jelapang Light Industrial Area near here at 2.30 pm yesterday. 'Following an inspection, it was found that the halal certification issued to the factory owner had been suspended due to a violation of the halal certification conditions,' he said in a statement today. He said the case was being investigated for violating Paragraph 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (Act 730), which is an offence under Section 8(a) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of 'Halal') Order 2011.
