Cooking oil packaging factory raided over use of illegal halal logo
Its director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said the seizure was made during a raid, carried out in collaboration with the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), on a cooking oil packaging factory in the Jelapang Light Industrial Area near here at 2.30 pm yesterday.
'Following an inspection, it was found that the halal certification issued to the factory owner had been suspended due to a violation of the halal certification conditions,' he said in a statement today.
He said the case was being investigated for violating Paragraph 4(1) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (Act 730), which is an offence under Section 8(a) of the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of 'Halal') Order 2011.

KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has proposed drafting a new law specifically to regulate e-commerce. The aim is to ensure a more organised and effective digital trade ecosystem at the national level. Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh stated that the proposal is built on three key pillars. These include clearer industry responsibility, stronger enforcement, and comprehensive protection for consumers and small businesses. 'KPDN will ensure that the e-commerce ecosystem is not only innovative but also safe, transparent, and ethical,' she said. She emphasised the importance of cooperation from all stakeholders to achieve these goals. The ministry hopes constructive feedback from engagement sessions will refine the draft legislation before submission. Fuziah spoke to reporters after the second E-Commerce Legislative Review Engagement Session. The session involved industry representatives, digital platforms, merchant associations, and consumer protection groups. Legal experts, academics, and government agency officials also participated in the discussions. KPDN organised the session to address the need for updated e-commerce laws. Existing regulations must remain relevant in governing the fast-changing digital marketplace. 'These improvements are crucial to adapt to dynamic shifts in online business,' Fuziah added. She highlighted the growing role of e-commerce in Malaysia's digital economy. However, rapid growth has also led to risks like fraud and unsafe products. Cross-border enforcement challenges further complicate digital trade regulation. Fuziah noted findings from the E-Commerce Legal Review Study. The study recommended a new legal framework for better governance of e-commerce. This framework aims to strengthen consumer protection and industry accountability. Ministry vows action against egg price gouging
Dr Fuziah Salleh KOTA KINABALU (Aug 9): The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) has assured that strict action will be taken to prevent price gouging following the withdrawal of egg subsidies. Deputy minister Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the ministry is committed to ensuring egg prices remain reasonable and that no party exploits the situation for excessive profit. 'I recently visited a farm in Tamparuli to examine how chicken egg production costs may have been affected by the subsidy withdrawal,' she said. 'We want to ensure there is no price gouging by irresponsible parties, in line with the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723).' Speaking at a press conference during the Engagement Session Programme for the Review of the Trade Master Plan 2025-2035 and the Review of E-Commerce Legislation here on Saturday, Fuziah said KPDN will intensify monitoring and enforcement to protect consumers and maintain sufficient egg supply nationwide. 'Strict action will be taken against any party found violating the provisions of this act to safeguard the interests and welfare of the people,' she said, adding that transparency in the country's food supply chain remains a priority. On the engagement session, Fuziah said it brought together stakeholders from the e-commerce ecosystem, including industry players, digital platforms, trade associations, consumer protection groups, ministries, agencies, legal experts and academics. She said the discussion focused on updating e-commerce laws to remain relevant in the rapidly growing digital landscape. 'These improvements are important to ensure policies and regulations can keep pace with change, while strengthening protection for consumers facing risks in digital transactions,' she said. Fuziah noted that e-commerce is now a part of Malaysians' daily lives and a key driver of the digital economy, but warned it also brings challenges such as fraud, unsafe products and cross-border enforcement issues. Perak KPDN seizes RM132k in diesel and assets in Kampung Kepayang raid
IPOH: The Perak branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized 1,220 litres of subsidised diesel and assets worth RM132,446.80 in a raid on a Kampung Kepayang workshop. The operation, conducted at 6.10 pm yesterday, led to the arrest of a 21-year-old local man suspected of storing controlled items without permits. Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, the state director, revealed that the syndicate bought diesel at RM1.80 per litre from dishonest lorry drivers before selling it illegally at RM2.40 per litre. Authorities also confiscated two lorries, an Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tank, and a pump during the raid. The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for unauthorised possession of controlled goods. Kamalludin warned that KPDN would take firm action against subsidy leakage through its Kita Gempur initiative.
