Petronas Gas expects RM60m profit dent, RM170m in repairs after Putra Heights pipeline fire
KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 — Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) is currently estimated to have a total profit impact of RM60 million for the financial year 2025 (FY2025).
This figure combines repair costs and revenue loss resulting from a fire incident at PGB's main pipeline near Putra Heights in Puchong, Selangor, on April 1, 2025, said the natural gas transmission company in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.
PGB said revenue loss due to service interruption is projected to be minimal at approximately RM20 million, owing to proactive collaboration between PGB, the authorities, gas shippers, and distributors in rapidly restoring pipeline services and stabilising supply.
The group also said that the financial impact of repair works and asset restoration is estimated to be approximately RM170 million, subject to the investigation's final findings, and based on the current site conditions and the extent of asset damage.
'A significant portion of this amount is expected to be capitalised under the company's capital expenditure, with partial recovery anticipated through insurance claims,' it said.
PGB said it continues to work closely and transparently with the authorities to determine the incident's root cause and identify contributing factors.
An independent task force was also established to provide strategic oversight of the post-incident investigation, recovery and restoration activities, the safety of gas transportation infrastructure, and other related matters. — Bernama

(Bernama pic) SEPANG : The development of the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) will strengthen Malaysia's ambition to become a leading air cargo hub in Asean, said transport minister Loke Siew Fook. He said the 600-acre project aligns with the government's strategy to enhance Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as a regional logistics and aerospace centre. Loke said KLIA holds a unique strategic advantage, with a vast land area of 100 sq km and strong connectivity, making it an ideal location for such a development. 'We possess the ingredients and prerequisites unmatched by any other Asean country. KLIA has the potential to expand to five runways (beyond the existing three). 'There is no other airport in the region of this scale,' he said at a press conference following the groundbreaking ceremony for SAP earlier today. Located within the KLIA Aeropolis, SAP carries a gross development value of RM2.3 billion and will be executed in phases to ensure a well-structured, future-ready investment ecosystem. The project is expected to contribute RM55.2 billion annually to the aerospace industry and create over 32,000 high-income jobs by 2030. Elaborating further, Loke said Malaysia has also secured support from China to position KLIA as a regional cargo hub for the Asean market. 'China has agreed to support KLIA as its cargo gateway for the Asean region. This is a highly strategic and significant partnership. 'We also aim to attract investments from aerospace supply chain industries, which includes the production of aerospace components, related technologies, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) services,' he said. He expressed confidence that more private sector players will invest in expanding aircraft MRO operations at KLIA. To support this vision, he said the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia is currently reviewing KLIA's air traffic control system to address the anticipated increase in both passenger and cargo flight traffic. 'We anticipate a significant increase in air traffic at KLIA, involving both passenger and cargo aircraft. A comprehensive redesign of the air traffic control system is currently under way to enhance operational efficiency and optimise traffic management,' he said. On a separate matter, Loke added that an announcement on the KLIA Aerotrain project will be made soon.

'To all Malays: no one is threatening our rights or interests,' he said in an interview with FMT. 'They have long been enshrined in the Federal Constitution and protected by our wise Malay rulers.' Khaled was responding to a call by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for Malays to join his new unity alliance, which the latter said was aimed at saving the community from what he described as their political and economic decline. Mahathir said the group, which includes PAS and Bersatu, is not a political party but a coalition aimed at 'restoring Malay power' in the government. While he did not want to invite Umno to join the alliance as a party, Mahathir said he welcomed its members who share his views. Khaled stressed that the younger generation is smarter, more critical, and unlikely to fall for what he called 'emotional politics'. The defence minister also said he believes that the true challenge facing the Malay community lies not in external threats, but in outdated and regressive thinking among some of its own leaders. The Kota Tinggi MP also reminded Malays that they needed to focus on gaining knowledge, skills and competitiveness. 'Many Malay leaders do not realise that generations X, Y, Z and Alpha … are not easily swayed by emotional politics aimed solely at gaining power,' he said. 'We need to engage in rational politics guided by strong values. Sentimentalism alone won't help us.'

Viral tariff schedule is fake, says TNB
TNB has clarified that it did not issue a widely circulated electricity tariff schedule that bears its logo and claims a tariff hike. (TNB pic) PETALING JAYA : Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has dismissed a widely circulated electricity tariff schedule on WhatsApp as fake, urging the public not to fall for any misinformation. In a statement today, TNB clarified that the schedule, which bears the TNB logo and claims of a tariff hike, is fake and was not issued by the company. 'The false schedule misleadingly suggests a tariff increase that features the TNB logo,' it said. 'The circulation of such false information is creating unnecessary confusion among customers.' TNB stressed that as of today, no official announcement has been made regarding any changes to electricity tariffs affecting consumers. The company also reminded the public to be responsible with the content they share online. 'We strongly advise the public to avoid sharing unverified information,' it said. For accurate and updated information, TNB urged consumers to refer only to official government and TNB platforms for any updates on electricity tariffs. Last December, TNB proposed a new tariff schedule with a base tariff of 45.62 sen per kilowatt-hour for Peninsular Malaysia under Regulatory Period 4 (RP4), for implementation from July 1, 2025. The base tariff under RP3 had been set at 39.95 sen/kWh between 2022 and 2024. Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof then said no decision had been made on the new tariff as the government was still finalising the matter. Fadillah is also the energy transition and water transformation minister.
