‘NoDrug app' delivers nearly 300 tip-offs to Cambodian police in June
PHNOM PENH: Members of the public reported 289 drug-related cases in June via the NoDrug mobile application. Authorities are encouraging the public to stop complaining about drug issues on social media and instead report them through the official app.
Khorn Darasambath, deputy secretary-general of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) and head of the 24/7 sub-committee that manages the app, explained that reports from concerned citizens are received every single day.
On July 2, he revealed that in the month of June alone, the sub-committee received 289 reports, of which 209 had been resolved. The remaining cases are under investigation, with some of them repeat reports that have already been addressed.
From the app's launch on April 23, 2024, to July 2, he added — a period of 436 days — the task force received a total of 1,764 reports, resulting in 1,310 interventions or crackdowns.
He explained that once a report is received, the 24/7 command team promptly relays the information to the relevant local authorities for further investigation and action.
'The NoDrug app has become a popular and effective tool for reporting local drug crimes to authorities, in line with the Cambodian government's policy of removing drugs from communities,' the NACD stated, noting that the app is also an efficient and confidential platform for users.
Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun, chairman of the NACD, has consistently encouraged the public — especially youth — to use the NoDrug app as the 'eyes, nose and ears' of law enforcement by reporting drug problems from their communities. He also noted the app serves as a channel for widespread drug education.
He remarked that in the past, some people would raise concerns about drugs in their neighbourhoods on social media. He urged citizens to shift from complaining online to actively reporting drug cases via the NoDrug app, helping to eradicate the issue from the grassroots level.
Since the app was launched, almost 50,000 users have downloaded it. Concerned citizens have reported around 1,400 drug-related cases through the app, leading to 1,200 interventions by authorities.
In a related matter, authorities in Kampong Cham province, in collaboration with the NACD, incinerated 433 kilogrammes of drugs on June 30, 2025. The destruction event was held to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, under the theme: 'Together, Prevent, Suppress and Eradicate the Root Causes of Drug Problems in Cambodia'.
These destroyed narcotics were seized during transit through Kampong Cham as well as in local crackdowns. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN

Cambodia urges Thai troops not to enter landmine-littered border areas
PHNOM PENH: A leading Cambodian demining agency has called on Thai troops to refrain from crossing into the Kingdom's territory, warning that border areas remain contaminated with landmines, remnants of past wars. The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), involved in clearing unexploded ordnance (UXO) in the country, said the country has been removing unexploded devices for over three decades. CMAA First Vice President Ly Thuch urged Thai troops to avoid entering Cambodian territory for their safety. 'To prevent further dangers, one must stop entering mine-affected areas. If we stop entering mine-affected areas, the danger will stop. 'Mines have no eyes, regardless of nationality; whoever steps on them or touches them will be destroyed,' he told the media today, reported Fresh News. Cambodia said it is still battling with landmine threats in its backyard and refuted claims that it was involved in planting explosive devices along the Thai border. The Cambodian Mine Action Centre Director General Heng Ratana, at the same press conference, said that more than 700 kilometres along the Cambodian-Thai border remain uncleared of UXO, including the disputed area. The two neighbours have recently traded accusations after Thai soldiers were reportedly injured in a landmine incident along the controversial border overlapping both countries several days ago. The landmine dispute marks the latest flashpoint since both countries agreed to a ceasefire on July 28 to ending a five-day armed clash related to a territorial dispute in the northern Cambodian region. According to Cambodian authorities, demining experts have so far destroyed over a million unexploded devices buried underground, planted during the country's civil conflicts - BERNAMA

Police and prosecutors interrogate Thai PM Paetongtarn over Hun Sen's leaked audio clip
Suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. - The Nation Thailand/ANN BANGKOK (The Nation Thailand/ANN): Thai Cybercrime police and public prosecutors have jointly interrogated suspended Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in a case involving former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen. Hun Sen has been accused of deliberately recording and leaking a private phone conversation with Paetongtarn to create political turmoil in Thailand. Deputy attorney-general Watcharin Phanurat clarified that the case was not filed against Paetongtarn but against Hun Sen, who is accused of violating Article 116 of the Criminal Code by releasing the clip with intent to incite protests against the Thai government. Complaints filed against Hun Sen Watcharin said several individuals filed complaints against Hun Sen with the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB). Paetongtarn's testimony, he added, was valuable to the investigation. Police and prosecutors still plan to question three or four more individuals, including those who lodged the complaints with the CCIB. The interrogations should be completed by the end of this month. Watcharin noted that his committee would finalise the case by no later than September 10 and forward the investigative report to the attorney-general for a decision. Possible arrest warrant against Hun Sen If the attorney-general decides to pursue charges, the Criminal Court could issue an arrest warrant against Hun Sen. Thai police would then request Interpol to issue an international warrant. While Thai authorities cannot arrest Hun Sen inside Cambodia, an Interpol warrant would significantly restrict his ability to travel abroad. Watcharin also said several complaints accuse Hun Sen of responsibility for deaths and injuries during past Thai-Cambodian border clashes. Separate complaints against Paetongtarn The case against Hun Sen is separate from complaints lodged against Paetongtarn by a group of senators and other individuals with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). These complaints accuse Paetongtarn of sedition, alleging she gave in to Hun Sen's demands and criticised the Second Army Area commander during her phone conversation with him. The CIB has forwarded 14 complaints against Paetongtarn to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for further investigation. Constitutional Court ruling expected August 29 In a related development, the Constitutional Court has scheduled August 29 to deliver its verdict on a petition filed by 36 senators. The petition alleges that Paetongtarn breached the prime minister's ethical standards in her conversation with Hun Sen.

Cambodian lotion and beauty tycoon jailed for incitement and demoralising army with social media posts
Well-known lotion vendor Chheng Sreyroth is charged with incitement and demoralising the army with her social media posts. -- Kandal Provincial Police PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Chheng Sreyroth, well-known purveyor of beauty creams and lotions, has landed herself in prison after making extraordinary claims on Cambodian social media. The famous lotion tycoon has ended up behind bars after she was charged with incitement and demoralising the army with her social media content. An August 15 announcement from the Kandal Provincial Court stated that Chheng Sreyroth also known as "Love Riya", 40, online lotion vendor living in Kampong Samnanh commune, Kandal province's Takhmao city, had been charged with two counts of 'incitement to discriminate' and 'demoralisation of the army' under Articles 472 and 496 of the Criminal Code. She faces a prison term of two to five years if convicted. Major Kem Vathana, a Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kandal province, said yesterday that Sreyroth, who calls herself 'Daughter of the Dragon King', made the offending posts on August 6 and 13. 'In her (August 6) Facebook post, Sreyroth said that because of her, the King Dragons, who are her parents, went to protect the land and fought first with the Thai army, which led the Cambodian army to defeat the Thai army. And she saw them,' Maj Vathan said. She claimed that her spirit entered the Cambodian soldiers, enabling them to defeat the Thai army, he said. On August 13, when Cambodia banned the import of Thai fruits, Sreyroth wrote on Facebook that she would also continue to import and sell Thai lotions in Cambodia because the people had the right to decide for themselves whether they would buy them, he added. Heng Kimheng, Sreyroth's husband, suggested that her confusion might be caused by excessive chemical levels in the lotion she used. He asked the court to forgive his wif,e who has young children to care for. -- Khmer Times
