Sook's transformation: Major infrastructure upgrades set to propel growth
Sook, situated east of Keningau and northwest of Nabawan, is part of Sabah's rural interior and is well-known for its agricultural activities. It lies about 150 to 180 kilometres from the state capital.
Hajiji said that several key infrastructure projects were currently underway in Sook, including two major road paving initiatives — the 40km Sinaron, Sook to Linayukan, Tongod road, valued at RM320 million, and the 22.85km Rancangan Belia Tiulon, Sook road, valued at RM127 million, both of which are under construction.
"With the completion of these paved roads, travel time and costs will be reduced, which will, in turn, stimulate local economic growth," he said during the launch of the upgrading of Sook to a full district at the Sook District Secretariat Building in Keningau on Monday.
Regarding educational development, Hajiji said that four new schools were currently being built — Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ambual, SK Rancangan Belia Tiulon, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dalit, and SMK Trusmadi, all of which are nearing completion.
The upgrading of healthcare facilities and power infrastructure was also completed last year. This includes the nearly RM1 million upgrade of Klinik Kesihatan Sook, as well as the construction of Klinik Desa Karamatoi and Klinik Desa Marapok, each valued at RM600,000.
"Additionally, 120 residents have benefited from the Rumah Mesra SMJ programme from 2022 to 2024, amounting to nearly RM9.6 million in Sook. In 2025, the state government has allocated RM6.4 million to build 80 more SMJ houses in Sook," he added.
Other planned developments include the construction of a sports complex, a district hospital, a district police station, and an expansion of the Sook health clinic area.
In conjunction with the event, Hajiji also approved an allocation of RM2 million for the construction of the Dewan Terbuka Daerah Sook and the upgrading of the Sook District Secretariat Building.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Chan Lee proposed a bail of RM15,000 for each charge. Chong's lawyer, K Veeranesh, sought a lower sum, citing his client's monthly income of SGD10,000 and the fact that he supports his wife and two children, aged 21 and 25. Judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail set bail at RM20,000 in total for all charges, with one surety, and fixed Sept 17 for case mention.

JOHOR BAHRU: A Singaporean company director pleaded not guilty in court today over cheating allegations involving three Singaporeans and a Malaysian in a RM155,000 investment scheme. The victims were allegedly misled into believing they would become shareholders and receive annual dividends from the investment. Lim Swee Chong and Lim Swee Joo reportedly lost RM71,250 each, while Ho Sang Bin and Puah Kot Choon suffered losses of RM6,250 each. The offences allegedly occurred at a bank in Batu Pahat on October 15, 2014. Successful Rahmah Madani Sales Programme to be expanded, says Armizan
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 13,060 series of the Rahmah Madani Sales Programme have been successfully implemented nationwide as of July 31. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the programme recorded 15,626,464 transactions that directly benefited the people. He said it was part of efforts under the Payung Rahmah initiative and an intervention mechanism aimed at helping ease the cost of living. "The programme offers the sale of daily necessities, both food and non-food items, at prices 10 to 30 per cent lower than the current market price in a specific area and its surroundings," he said during the Minister's Question Time (MQT) in the Dewan Rakyat today. Armizan said a total of 20,000 Rahmah Madani Sales Programme series, covering 222 parliamentary constituencies and 40 zones in the Federal Territories, were targeted to be held this year. He was responding to a question from Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang) regarding the new strategies and initiatives planned to ensure that the increased allocation of RM600 million to the programme truly reaches the target group, as well as the actual number of people targeted to benefit directly. He said the ministry had also increased allocations involving three key elements of the sales programme, among them, increasing the frequency of implementation, expanding the range of goods, and diversifying implementation models. He said the number of sales events would be expanded, with the target raised from the initial 15,360 Rahmah Madani Sales Programme series to 20,000 series annually until December 2025. "In addition, new stock-keeping units will be added based on local needs and festive seasons. The range of goods will include school supplies, fresh produce and students' necessities. "The programme will also be implemented more comprehensively through three models, sales within premises, open-area sales and mobile sales," he said.
