Dubai Mall Unveils Ambitious Expansion Amidst Soaring Visitor Numbers

Dubai Mall is set to undergo a significant expansion, with Emaar Properties announcing a substantial investment of AED 1.5 billion to enhance the mall's offerings. The development will introduce 240 new luxury retail stores and food and beverage outlets, further solidifying the mall's position as a premier global shopping destination. In 2023, Dubai Mall achieved a remarkable milestone by welcoming 105 million visitors, marking a 19% increase from the previous year. This surge in footfall underscores the mall's growing appeal and the emirate's broader strategy to boost tourism and retail sectors. The expansion aims to accommodate this increasing demand and enhance the overall visitor experience. Spanning over 1.2 million square meters, Dubai Mall currently houses more than 1,200 retail outlets, including flagship stores like Galeries Lafayette and Bloomingdale's. The mall also offers over 200 international dining options and a range of entertainment attractions, such as the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo, an Olympic-sized ice rink, a 26-screen cinema, and the Zabeel Sports District. The upcoming expansion will build upon these offerings, introducing new luxury brands and dining experiences to cater to diverse visitor preferences. ADVERTISEMENT Emaar Properties has already commenced on-site preparations for the expansion, although a specific completion date has not been disclosed. The project reflects Dubai's ambitious vision to remain at the forefront of global innovation and culture, aiming to further enhance the city's status as a top international destination. The expansion also aligns with broader trends in the United Arab Emirates' retail sector. Despite global shifts towards online shopping, the UAE has witnessed a 14% increase in retail spending, driven by sectors such as fashion, general retail, and leisure and entertainment. This growth highlights the continued relevance and appeal of brick-and-mortar retail experiences in the region. In addition to the Dubai Mall expansion, other major retail developments are underway in the city. For instance, Majid Al Futtaim has announced a $1.36 billion investment to expand the Mall of the Emirates, another prominent shopping destination in Dubai. These initiatives underscore the city's commitment to enhancing its retail infrastructure and offering unparalleled shopping experiences to residents and tourists alike.

Italian league set to begin on August 24, 2025

Minimal interruptions and year-end matches According to the league's statement, the season will only pause during the four designated FIFA international windows, scheduled for September, October, November, and March. As in previous seasons, Serie A will not observe a winter break, with fixtures already planned for December 21 and 28, 2025, as well as January 3 and 6, 2026. Midweek fixtures and scheduling adjustments The league also revealed that Matchdays 9 and 19 will be held midweek to accommodate the full 38-round schedule within the set timeframe. These midweek rounds are part of the league's strategy to ensure efficient scheduling despite a packed football calendar. City rivalries and stadium coordination In efforts to minimize security concerns, the league will alternate home and away matches for high-profile city rivalries such as Inter vs. Milan, Lazio vs. Roma, Juventus vs. Torino, and Fiorentina vs. Pisa. This measure is intended to prevent both clubs from hosting matches in the same city during the same round. San Siro exception due to Olympic preparations Despite these arrangements, exceptions will be made where necessary. One notable case involves Milan and Inter, whose shared home, San Siro Stadium, will be unavailable in early February due to preparations for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The stadium is set to host the Olympic opening ceremony on February 6, 2026, requiring special adjustments to the match calendar for both teams.

Over 200 Filipino health workers to depart for Japan

A total of 218 Filipino health workers will soon leave for Japan, following a send-off ceremony organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). This 17th batch includes 19 nurses and 199 careworkers, scheduled to depart on June 10 and 11, after completing the required training under the Philippines-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (PJEPA). In his speech, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s full support for Filipino workers going abroad and lauded their dedication, likening them to Olympic gold medalists. 'It's been proven time and again. It's you guys who are number one. You are the Olympic gold medalists every single day. Nobody can do what you can do.' PJEPA, the Philippines' first bilateral free trade agreement signed in 2006 and implemented in 2009, also covers the deployment of qualified Filipino health professionals to Japan, sending a total of 655 nurses and 3,760 careworkers since it began. Japanese officials also expressed their strong support, with Japan Foundation Manila Director Ben Suzuki emphasizing the sacrifices made by Filipino workers and their contribution to Japan. 'For Filipino people, working abroad means a sacrifice rooted in love for their family and dignity of life, more than earning enough income. The dedication and cultural values that can help enrich today's Japanese society,' Suzuki said.
