One would think that losing four of the past five games and suffering defeats to two of the WNBA's lowest-ranked teams would have the injury-plagued Liberty reeling.
But Jonquel Jones would rather find the silver lining in the current situation than dwell on the difficulties.

The Liberty's three frontcourt injuries — with Breanna Stewart, Nyara Sabally and Kennedy Burke all sidelined indefinitely — have put a heavier burden on Jones' shoulders over the past 10 days, despite her only returning from a monthlong injury absence after the All-Star break.
But Jones believes her larger role paired with the team's grueling stretch of playing six games in those 10 days – with the final contest of this run being Tuesday night against the Wings — has expedited her reintegration process.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A'ja Wilson scored 27 points, Jackie Young and Jewell Loyd each added 14 points and the Las Vegas Aces beat the Golden State Valkyries 78-72 on Wednesday night. Las Vegas (16-14) ended the third quarter on a 13-4 run for a 64-54 lead, then went scoreless in the fourth until the 6:05 mark as Golden State got as close as 66-63. A 5-0 run by the Aces, highlighted by a 3-pointer by Loyd, made it 74-65 with 2:47 left. Wilson sealed it with two free throws with 34.9 seconds left. Wilson finished 8 of 11 from the field and 11 of 11 at the free-throw line. She also had two blocks in the first quarter to become the 10th player in WNBA history with 500. Tiffany Hayes scored 14 points and Janelle Salaun added 13 for Golden State (14-15). Carla Leite and Kaila Charles each added 11. Las Vegas led 43-38 at halftime behind 14 points from Wilson. The Aces took the lead for good on Young's 3-pointer with 4:49 left in the third at 51-48. Jose Iglesias lines go-ahead single in 9th, Padres rally to beat Diamondbacks 3-2
PHOENIX (AP) — Jose Iglesias followed Ryan O'Hearn's tying homer with a run-scoring single in the ninth inning and the San Diego Padres rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 on Wednesday night. San Diego scored five runs in the 11th inning to beat the Diamondbacks 10-5 on Tuesday night and staged another late rally. With Arizona leading 2-1, O'Hearn led off the ninth with a tying homer off Kyle Backus (0-2), his first off a left-hander this season. Xander Bogaerts, who hit a solo homer in the seventh, followed with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Iglesias lined a single to right and Mason Miller worked around a walk in the the ninth for his 21st save. Adrian Morejon (9-4) allowed a hit in two innings for the Padres, who have won nine of 11. Corbin Carroll homered for Arizona. Padres starter Nestor Cortes had a shaky start in his first game since being traded from Milwaukee. Carroll hit his 23rd homer over the pool deck in right-center in the first inning and Cortes hit consecutive batters to load the bases in the second. Alek Thomas put Arizona up 2-0 with a sacrifice fly. Cortes allowed two runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, with three strikeouts and three walks. Valkyries slip in return to Chase as loss to Aces trims playoff lead to a half-game
Instead of a resurgent return to Chase Center and a vital victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Wednesday night, the Golden State Valkyries did just enough to imperil their place in the WNBA playoff picture. The Valkyries never led in the second half of a 78-72 loss, their second to the Aces in four days, as their hold on the eighth and final postseason berth was trimmed to a half-game over Los Angeles with 15 games to go. Golden State hosts the red-hot Sparks — winners of 8 of 10 — on Saturday. The Valkyries (14-15) had their third-worst 3-point showing of the season (4 of 22, 18.2%) in their first home game since July 25 after a 3-2 road trip. While never out of Wednesday's game, they rarely threatened the Aces late. Even with Tiffany Hayes and Cecilia Zandalasini back from injuries that cost them two games apiece, Golden State's nine assists were a season-low. Veronica Burton left the game after being called for a flagrant foul with 3:20 left in the third quarter and never returned, though she stayed on the bench. The Valkyries committed 16 turnovers in their fifth home defeat of the season. Aces (16-14) All-Star center A'ja Wilson scored a game-high 27 points on 8 of 11 floor shooting and 11-for-11 at the line. The Valkyries opened with a zone defense and held the Aces to 0-for-9 from 3-point range to start. That allowed them to go on a 14-0 run into the second quarter while the offense found its legs. The Aces went scoreless for more than six minutes between the end of the first quarter and the start of the second. The Aces rebounded to make 11 of 15 shots in the frame and lead 43-38 at the half.
