Edinburgh Princes Street locked down by police as forensic tent and cordon erected
Edinburgh's Princes Street has been locked down by police amid an ongoing incident on Wednesday morning.
A large area of the major street has been cordoned off and a forensic tent has been erected on June 25.
Locals and commuters were made aware of the incident around 7am. A huge number of police and ambulance vehicles are in attendance as emergency services swarm the scene.

An area of the street, near Uniqlo, has been taped off.
One concerned passer-by said: "Police incident on Princes Street at the foot of the mound. Princes Street closed east bound."
A number of Lothian Bus services have been diverted and Edinburgh Trams have alerted passengers too.
Key bus services including the 3, 34, 44 and 25 have been impacted.
A statement for Lothian Buses reads: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve part of Princes Street and are instead diverted via Frederick Street, George Street and South St David Street eastbound until further notice."
Edinburgh Trams also warned commuters and said: "Due to a police incident, Princes Street is closed. We are part route between West End and Edinburgh Airport in both directions.
"Ticket acceptance is in place with @on_lothianbuses".
Police Scotland have been approached for comment.

Police raid uncovers 'large cannabis factory'
A cannabis grow worth £60,000 has been seized by officers following a raid at property in Leicestershire. Leicestershire Police said it executed a warrant at an address on Oakham Road, near Tilton-on-the-Hill at about 09:30 BST on Monday. Officers found the "large cannabis factory" in a "specially designed outbuilding", the force added. Four people were arrested but have since been bailed pending further investigation. A 62-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and possession of a class B drug with intent to supply. A 29-year-old man was detained on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, while a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and being concerned in the supply of a class B drug. A third man, 26, was held on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, possession of a class B drug with intent to supply and abstracting/using electricity without authority. Greece arrests woman for fuelling fire with cigarette
Greece has arrested a Georgian woman suspected of discarding a cigarette that helped trigger one of several wildfires razing land and threatening homes on the island of Chios. Blazes broke out on Chios in the Aegean Sea on Sunday and tore through 40 square kilometres of mainly bush and pasture land in three days, Greece's climate crisis and civil protection ministry said on Wednesday. The fire brigade said the woman was arrested on Tuesday night and authorities were still investigating the cause of the fires. The Georgian was charged with unintentional arson, two fire brigade officials told Reuters on condition anonymity. Witnesses saw her drop a cigarette, one of the officials said. Though the wildfires were largely contained by Wednesday, hundreds of firefighters remained on Chios to prevent rekindling and bring all fronts under control, the Greek fire brigade said. At Europe's southernmost tip, Greece is often hit by wildfires during its hot and dry summers, but authorities say the fast-changing climate is fuelling more destructive blazes. The Greek government has paid hundreds of millions of euros in damages related to extreme weather to households and farmers and to update firefighting equipment. It has upped firefighter numbers to a record 18,000 in 2025 in anticipation of a challenging fire season. They will be assisted by 294 firefighters from five European countries from July 1 to September 15.

Eurostar Trains Delayed and Canceled After Cable Theft
Eurostar, the high-speed train service that connects Britain with continental Europe, was facing a second consecutive day of severe delays after cables were stolen and two people were hit by a train near its station in Lille, France, the company said. The train operator said there were delays and last-minute cancellations on Wednesday after a 'cable theft' near the station in northern France, and advised passengers to cancel or postpone their trips. Eurostar was also forced to cancel routes on Tuesday, after two people died on its high-speed line between Lille and Paris. The problems come during a time of heightened fears about sabotage in Europe, and they follow several other major disruptions to European rail services because of cable theft or vandalism. In May, more than 10,000 passengers were stranded in Spain after cable was stolen. Last July, arsonists in France cut and burned cables for high-speed rail lines before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, targeting important signal stations in three different areas. Experts say that the unusually dense French rail network is especially vulnerable to sabotage, in part because it is so expansive.
