Bloom vape cartridges recalled for containing potentially unsafe MCT oil
The vape cartridges, produced by Detroit-based Exhale Systems Inc., are being recalled because they contain medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil and should not be consumed, the CRA said.
The voluntary recall comes just weeks after Platinum Vape-branded vape cartridges were also recalled for MCT oil, which was the first recall of a product for MCT oil in Michigan since the testing requirement for this diluting agent went into effect in October.
The impacted products include the strains Alien Jack, Blue Dream, Cereal Milk, Champagne Kush, Durban Gelato, Face Off OG, Forbidden Fruit, Green Crack, Jack Herer, Maui Wowie, Pineapple Express, Pineapple Sherbert, Rainbow Runtz, Skywalker and White Widow, the CRA said. About 18,000 of the impacted vape cartridges have been sold and 5,000 remain at marijuana dispensaries, David Harns, a CRA spokesperson, said.
Executives at Bloom Brand and Exhale Systems did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment Tuesday afternoon.
The Bloom Brand, founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, has a presence in states across the country. It appears to have been brought to Michigan's cannabis market in April 2024 through a partnership with Yield Distribution. Yield entered into an agreement with Exhale Systems, Bloom's producer and license partner, to distribute and sell Bloom products across Michigan, according to a press release.

Consumers who purchased the impacted flavors of Bloom vape cartridges any time after Sept. 1, 2024, should check the Metrc Tag number on the package label and compare it to the recalled Metrc Tag numbers found on the CRA website under "Bulletins."
The CRA said Exhale Systems has identified sales locations that have this product in their inventory and are working with stores to retrieve and dispose of any recalled product in stock. Dispensaries have posted signs advising consumers to return this product or dispose of it, the agency said.
Consumers with a recalled vape cartridge should return it to the sales location from where it was purchased or dispose of it safely, the CRA said. Consumers who have experienced adverse reactions after using these products should report their symptoms and product use to their health care providers, the agency said.
Consumers are also encouraged to report any adverse reactions to the products to the CRA by completing an "Adverse Reaction Reporting Form" that can be found on the agency's website or by phone at 517-284-8599, the CRA said.

Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum resume Russian oil purchases
India-based refiners Indian Oil and Bharat Petroleum have resumed their purchases of Russian oil for delivery in September and October, with widening discounts in place, as reported by Reuters, citing two officials familiar with the matter. This move could potentially impact the supply to key China buyers, which had increased its intake during the Indian refiners' hiatus. However, with discounts on Russian flagship Urals crude reaching approximately $3 per barrel, the economics have swung back in favour of the Indian companies. Despite geopolitical tensions and previous criticism from the US, Russia anticipates maintaining its oil exports to India. Officials at the Russian embassy in New Delhi have expressed hope for upcoming trilateral discussions involving India and China. The decision to restart imports follows a temporary halt in July when Indian refiners faced slimmer discounts and international scrutiny. The US criticised India's continued purchases of Russian oil, which have surged from a marginal 0.2% to 35% of India's total oil imports since the Ukraine conflict began. Furthermore, US President Donald Trump had threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Indian goods from 27 August to penalise the country for its dealings with Russia. Despite the geopolitical backdrop, Indian Oil, the nation's key refiner, communicated to analysts its intent to continue sourcing Russian oil, based on favourable economics. The company's strategy includes diversifying its crude basket with other Russian grades such as Varandey and Siberian Light. While Indian companies typically do not disclose details of their crude imports, the market has taken note of China's recent acquisition of 15 cargoes of Russian oil for delivery in October and November. Aalo Atomics secures $100m to advance modular nuclear tech
Aalo Atomics, a Texas, US-based company specialising in modular nuclear technology to power AI data centres, has raised $100m in Series B funding. The funding was led by Valor Equity Partners, with participation from new and existing investors including Fine Structure Ventures, Hitachi Ventures and NRG Energy. This brings Aalo's total funding to more than $136m since its inception in 2023. The company plans to utilise the new funds to double its workforce from 60 to 120 within one year. Aalo aims to attract top engineering and manufacturing talent, enhancing its capabilities in nuclear technology. Its executive team has recently been strengthened by new members with expertise in public policy, regulatory affairs and nuclear technology. Aalo's flagship product, the Aalo Pod, is a 50-megawatt electrical (MWe) extra modular nuclear reactor (XMR) power plant designed for data centres. Each Aalo Pod contains five Aalo-1 reactors, which are fully modular and can scale to gigawatts. The reactors are sodium-cooled, use low-enriched uranium fuel and do not need external water sources. the Aalo Pod's small physical footprint makes on-site co-location with data centres easy. The company has achieved several milestones, including selection by the Department of Energy to test the Aalo-X experimental XMR power plant at Idaho National Laboratory. The target for criticality is set for 4 July 2026. Aalo has also completed a conceptual design review for Aalo-X and unveiled a 40,000 ft² manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas. Valor Equity Partners founder and CEO Antonio Gracias stated: 'AI is expected to require triple-digit increases in the power supply in the coming months and years, creating both a complex problem for US industry and a significant commercial opportunity for the companies that can solve it.' Aalo Atomics co-founder and CEO Matt Loszak stated: 'Our unique approach of mass manufacturing modular nuclear plants, combined with our commitment to both safety and scaleability, positions us at the forefront of this movement and ensures we are ready to meet this imminent market need at record speed.' Aalo has also been selected as one of four partners to develop up to 1GW of nuclear energy generation capacity at the Texas A&M University System RELLIS Campus. The company has purchased land in Texas for a non-nuclear prototype to test its design elements, including sodium coolant, with construction underway.
