Bloom vape cartridges recalled for containing potentially unsafe MCT oil
Michigan's Cannabis Regulatory Agency on Tuesday recalled various flavors of Bloom vape cartridges that contain a diluting agent that could be harmful to consumers.
The vape cartridges, produced by Detroit-based Exhale Systems Inc., are being recalled because they contain medium chain triglyceride (MCT) oil and should not be consumed, the CRA said.
The voluntary recall comes just weeks after Platinum Vape-branded vape cartridges were also recalled for MCT oil, which was the first recall of a product for MCT oil in Michigan since the testing requirement for this diluting agent went into effect in October.
The impacted products include the strains Alien Jack, Blue Dream, Cereal Milk, Champagne Kush, Durban Gelato, Face Off OG, Forbidden Fruit, Green Crack, Jack Herer, Maui Wowie, Pineapple Express, Pineapple Sherbert, Rainbow Runtz, Skywalker and White Widow, the CRA said. About 18,000 of the impacted vape cartridges have been sold and 5,000 remain at marijuana dispensaries, David Harns, a CRA spokesperson, said.
Executives at Bloom Brand and Exhale Systems did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment Tuesday afternoon.
The Bloom Brand, founded in 2014 in Los Angeles, has a presence in states across the country. It appears to have been brought to Michigan's cannabis market in April 2024 through a partnership with Yield Distribution. Yield entered into an agreement with Exhale Systems, Bloom's producer and license partner, to distribute and sell Bloom products across Michigan, according to a press release.

Consumers who purchased the impacted flavors of Bloom vape cartridges any time after Sept. 1, 2024, should check the Metrc Tag number on the package label and compare it to the recalled Metrc Tag numbers found on the CRA website under "Bulletins."
The CRA said Exhale Systems has identified sales locations that have this product in their inventory and are working with stores to retrieve and dispose of any recalled product in stock. Dispensaries have posted signs advising consumers to return this product or dispose of it, the agency said.
Consumers with a recalled vape cartridge should return it to the sales location from where it was purchased or dispose of it safely, the CRA said. Consumers who have experienced adverse reactions after using these products should report their symptoms and product use to their health care providers, the agency said.
Consumers are also encouraged to report any adverse reactions to the products to the CRA by completing an "Adverse Reaction Reporting Form" that can be found on the agency's website or by phone at 517-284-8599, the CRA said.
