Wirtz is one of Europe's most in-demand players after two stunning seasons for Bayer Leverkusen.
Transfer guru David Ornstein suggests Liverpool are "confident" of landing Wirtz and have jumped ahead of Bayern Munich in the race.
Liverpool fans have responded by singing the praises of their American co-owner John Henry.
And a clip featuring the current President of the United States has gone viral as a result.
Fans shared a video of President Donald Trump declaring Henry was a "great businessman" during a 2018 visit to Washington.
Henry was at the White House to celebrate his MLB team Boston Red Sox winning the World Series.
Trump is seen addressing the team and singles out the Liverpool owner for praise.
Turning to Henry behind him, Trump declared: "John Henry, [is] a great, great businessman.
"John, thank you very much. Great businessman."
One fan responded in response to the Wirtz claim: "Please wake me up! Gotta be a dream… we getting a top diamond of the world?"
Another joked: "John W Henry statue? Who says no."
While a third added: "I'm levitating mate what a month of football."
But a fourth countered: "Why do people go mad? NOTHING is signed or done."
Wirtz, 22, has emerged as one of Europe's brightest young stars after flourishing under Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso.
The German scored 16 goals and added 15 assists in 45 games this season as Leverkusen finished second in the Bundesliga.
Wirtz has already been looking at property on Merseyside ahead of a blockbuster £125million move.
Should Liverpool get the deal over the line, it would smash the current British transfer record.
The record is currently held by Chelsea, who shelled out £115m for Moises Caicedo in 2023.

Manchester United launch transfer bid for Brenford forward Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United have made a first formal approach for Bryan Mbeumo but have seen their bid rebuffed by Brentford. United are understood to have offered in the region of £45m for the Cameroonian international, with a further £10m in performance-related add-ons, but Brentford are holding out for more than £60m. Mbeumo has only a year left on his contract which gives United some leverage as they look to prise away the 25-year-old, who scored 20 goals and made seven assists in the Premier League last season. But Brentford consider Mbeumo a key player and are prepared to trigger an option in his contract which would extend his stay at the Gtech Community Stadium by a further 12 months in order to keep him. Manager Thomas Frank said last month that Mbeumo's sale was possible but that he would be 'expensive' for potential suitors, who also include Newcastle United. Mbeumo suits United's preference for proven Premier League talent who are yet to reach their peak, following the £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Mbeumo also appeals for his versatility, being able to play across the forward line, and for his outstanding fitness record, having played in all 38 of Brentford's league games in two out of the past three seasons. With Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony all expected to leave the club this summer, United need to acquire more attacking options. Mbeumo has the potential to fit into Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system either as a striker or as one of two No 10s in support. United also want to sign a goalkeeper, a wing-back and a midfielder, but first need to offload a raft of players in order to free up headroom within the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

I'm going to throw some at you as well. I hope it helps. "You are remarkable. I only wish I could find time to come out and see you and cheer you over the line. Sam Thompson breaks down in tears and is comforted by Pete Wicks as disaster strikes on 260-mile endurance challenge "But it's incredible what you're doing and Unicef, as an ambassador for many years, we are so grateful for all the women and children's lives around the world you're changing. "Congrats, mate. We're pulling for you." Sam screamed: "Oh my god, Orlando Bloom!" Orlando - who has been an ambassador for Unicef since 2009 - said the exchange "brought a tear to his eye". Pete pulled him in for a hug and gave him a kiss on the cheek. 'You all right? Come here. It's alright,' Pete said to Sam. The tearful reality star replied: "I didn't know you were coming." Struggling to compose himself, Sam said that he didn't think he was "smashing it". Sam is completing the challenge in support of Soccer Aid, which takes place on Sunday June 15. 6 6 6
