Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 1999 epic Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam , starring Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai, and Ajay Devgn, isn't just remembered for its grandeur—it's also renowned for a special kind of on-set magic. In a heartfelt interview marking the film's 26th anniversary, Bhansali opened up about the deep bond that shaped both the romance onscreen and off it.
'It wasn't only between Salman and Aishwarya—there was a sense of family among all of us,' Bhansali shared. He fondly recalled how actors like Zohra Sehgal, Helen, Vikram Gokhale, Smita Jaykar, alongside Salman and Aishwarya, formed a close-knit unit during shooting. That warmth, he says, brought an authentic emotional resonance to the film—something rare in today's more clinical, professional shoots. Chemistry that went beyond the script
Even after all these years, the emotional chemistry between Salman and Aishwarya remains palpable. Their romantic pairing wasn't merely scripted—they were reportedly seeing each other off-camera as well. Bhansali attributes the silence surrounding their on-set rapport to the 'innocence' of the time—unobtrusive, natural, and impactful. Not a remake—A masterpiece made
Bhansali revealed that there was intense pressure to change the film's heartbreaking climax—many argued that Sameer (Salman) should end up with Nandini (Aishwarya). But the director stuck to his creative vision. It paid off: Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam went on to sweep the 45th Filmfare Awards, bagging Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress among its eight wins. With sweeping visuals, evocative music, and soul-stirring performances, it became Bhansali's definitive declaration of cinematic intent. The legacy lives on
For Bhansali, this film remains one of his most fulfilling experiences. 'I don't think I've felt such a connection on any other set,' he said, noting that today's shoots lack the same emotional intimacy.
Like a perfect fusional blend of fairy tale and reality, Hum… Dil De Chuke Sanam still resonates—its off-screen warmth transcended into the celluloid, crafting a tale of love, sacrifice, and a bond that went beyond the script. Twenty-six years later, its emotional legacy and unforgettable songs remain etched in the hearts of fans.

Salman Khan Pokes Fun At Sikandar's Reception On Kapil Sharma Show: 'Kaam Dhanda Acha Chalra Hai?'
Last Updated: Salman Khan kicks off The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3 with a dig at his own film, Sikandar. The Great Indian Kapil Show is back with its third season, and who better to launch it than Salman Khan. The superstar appears in the premiere episode airing Saturday, June 21, on Netflix, to promote his latest release, Sikandar. Known for never shying away from poking fun at himself, Salman brings his trademark humour to the stage — complete with banter, witty comebacks, and a hilarious moment with his own impersonator. In one standout segment, Salman is introduced to a group of Bollywood lookalikes — including versions of Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and a fan dressed as Radhe Bhaiyya from Tere Naam. Spotting his own double, Salman playfully asks, 'Kaam dhanda accha chalra hai? Sikandar se koi farak to nahi pada?" The impersonator simply smiles and shakes his head, prompting laughter from the audience and cast alike. The episode also features lively exchanges between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Archana Puran Singh, continuing the show's legacy of blending celebrity guests with full-blown comedy. While Sikandar became one of the year's biggest Bollywood earners, raking in more than Rs 120 crore, it received mixed reviews and fell short of the usual Salman Khan blockbuster mark. Meanwhile, reports are rife that Sikandar has suffered a massive financial blow after being leaked online just hours after its release. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the piracy resulted in losses amounting to approximately Rs 91 crore for the production team. An insider told the publication, 'An audit was commissioned to assess the extent of the leak and the resulting impact on revenue. Ernst & Young (EnY) submitted a comprehensive report that pegged the loss at approximately Rs. 91 crore." The audit reportedly measured the difference between projected and actual earnings following the leak. Advanced tracking tools were used to monitor illegal downloads and streams, calculating the financial damage caused to the film's theatrical and digital revenue. 'Such audits often include a blend of data from ticketing platforms, distributor reports, and forensic tracing of piracy dissemination," the source added. 'The Rs. 91 crore figure wasn't arbitrary – it is rooted in a loss of potential theatrical and digital revenue." First Published:
