Shirtless Baz? Liberal leader soaks up sun on Greek holiday
Mr Zempilas joined his wife Amy and children Ava, Chloe and Anthony on the island of Kastellorizo for the family's third visit to the serene eastern Mediterranean destination in seven years.
In a series of images shared to Instagram by Ms Zempilas, the Opposition leader cut a relaxed figure as he soaked in the European sunshine and azure waters. 'It's impossible to capture the magic that is Kastellorizo. The place my husband's family are from. Where we were married and two of our children were christened,' Ms Zempilas wrote.
Framed by boats, quaint restaurants and gorgeous lagoons, the politician appeared noticeably at ease — donning Aviator sunglasses and fishing with his son — as he enjoyed the change of pace. Kazzi — as the island is often referred to — lies just 2km off the Turkish coast as Greece's easternmost island.
In February, Conde Nast Traveller labelled it 'the secret Greek island to know about for 2025'.
Featuring a backdrop of hills shadowing pastel-coloured houses, popular activities include visits to The Blue Grotto sea cave and snorkelling at nearby Saint George Island.
Mr Zempilas was noticeably absent from his family's earlier pit stops at the popular tourist islands of Naxos and Santorini.
While ostensibly switching his political brain off on his arrival, the former lord mayor's social media feed remains actively campaigning for the Liberal Party.

Trump doubles India tariff as punishment for buying Russian oil
Witkoff's long-awaited meeting with Putin lasted for about three hours, with Trump suggesting on social media there was a good outcome. Loading 'Great progress was made!' the president said of the talks in Moscow. 'Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' White House official Pete Navarro, a top adviser to Trump on trade, was scathing of India in remarks after the tariff decision. 'American dollars buy Indian products, and that sets in motion a situation where those dollars finance a war which then requires American taxpayers to pay for defending against the Russian armaments,' he said. 'That kind of trade just doesn't work.' Trump warned last week that Putin had 10 days to act on peace with Ukraine or face mammoth secondary tariffs, scaling up the economic threat to Russia after more than three years of war. The US president has been increasingly frustrated with Putin over the lack of progress towards peace, airing his concerns at a press conference with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in Scotland on July 29. He set a 50-day deadline for Putin in early July, giving the Russian leader until September 2 to stop firing missiles and drones at Ukrainian civilians and agree to a peace deal, before adjusting the timeline to August 8. 'There's no reason in waiting,' he said in Scotland. The president has repeatedly expressed frustration that the Russian leader would make claims about peace in their private conversations, but continue bombing Ukraine at night. 'Russia could be so rich, instead they spend all their money on war,' Trump said at the appearance with Starmer. 'I thought he'd want to end this thing quickly, but every time I think it's going to end, he kills people.' Bloomberg and independent Russian news outlet The Bell reported that the Kremlin might propose a moratorium on airstrikes by Russia and Ukraine – an idea that was mentioned last week by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting with Putin. Zelensky said Russian missiles and drones continued to attack targets overnight, including a recreational facility in Zaporizhzhia. 'Twelve people have been injured. As of now, sadly, two people are confirmed dead,' he said on X. 'Also at night, there were vicious attacks on power grids in the Dnipro region, a drone-dropped munition targeting civilians in Kherson, and a strike on a gas facility in Novosilske, Odesa region. Hundreds of families were left without gas. In the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, the Russians targeted people's private homes. 'No matter what the Kremlin says, they will only genuinely seek to end the war once they feel adequate pressure.'

US to impose further sanctions on Russia despite ‘highly productive' talks with Putin
US President Donald Trump claims the meeting between Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin was 'highly productive'. The clock is ticking for Moscow to enter a ceasefire deal with Ukraine after the American leader brought forward the deadline. President Trump posted on his Truth Social: 'My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Great progress was made. 'Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this war must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come. However, while the talks were described as 'positive' by the Kremlin, the White House has announced further sanctions will be imposed on Russia this week.

Trump and Putin could meet in days following 'highly productive' talks as trilateral meeting with Zelenskyy also planned
US President Donald Trump could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin following "highly productive talks" between Putin and special envoy Steve Witkoff, with a trilateral meeting involving Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also planned. US President Donald Trump is open to meeting with Vladimir Putin as soon as next week, a White House official has said, following a "highly productive" meeting between special envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin. Trump will also hold a trilateral meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following talks with the Russian President, The New York Times reported. "The Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the President is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelenskyy," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said responding to the report. Plans were reportedly disclosed to European leaders, including Zelenskyy. It comes after the US President last week threatened to impose "very severe" sanctions on Russia in an effort to pressure Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. A Friday deadline was set by Trump for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or face new sanctions. Mr Witkoff flew to Moscow for last minute discussions on Wednesday, and Trump has said their meeting was "highly productive", claiming "Great progress was made!". "Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come. Thank you for your attention to this matter!," the US President posted on his social media platform Truth Social on Thursday morning AEST. The White House official said the Trump-Putin meeting could happened as soon as next week. A Kremlin aide earlier said Witkoff and Putin held "useful and constructive" talks on Wednesday during a meeting that lasted around three hours. However, the secondary sanctions Trump threatened against countries doing business with Russia are still expected to be implemented on Friday, the White House official said. President Zelenskyy has posted on X saying he had discussed Mr Witkoff's visit to Russia with Trump."Our joint position with our partners is absolutely clear – the war must end. And it must be done honestly. European leaders were on the call, and I am grateful to each of them for their support. We discussed what was spelled out in Moscow," Zelenskyy said."Ukraine will definitely defend its independence. We all need a lasting and reliable peace. Russia must end the war that it itself started," Zelenskyy said, adding that European leaders had joined the call with Trump". With Reuters
