Michael Jackson's ‘Thriller' Rocks Back Into The Top 10, 40 Years Later

More than 40 years after it first became one of the biggest albums of all time, Thriller by Michael Jackson continues to prove its lasting appeal. The multi-genre, hit-packed collection remains present on several rankings in the United States, and this time around, it even manages to return to the top 10 as sales climb and Americans keep falling in love with the superstar's music again and again.
Thriller's Sales Rise
Sales of Thriller across all formats grew by more than 28% from one week to the most recent tracking period. Luminate reports that the set sold 3,900 copies in the U.S. in the previous tracking frame. That sum is enough to push Thriller from No. 17 to No. 10 on the Vinyl Albums chart.
Not all of those purchases were on wax, but Thriller has remained a must-own for vinyl collectors for a long time, so it can usually be found on the list. At the same time, the Grammy-winning effort jumps from No. 30 to No. 25 on the Top Album Sales ranking, which blends all formats, including vinyl, CD, cassette, and digital downloads.
Thriller Lives on Five Billboard Charts
Thriller can be found on five charts this week, and it ascends on all of them. In addition to both the Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums tallies, the collection lives inside the top 40 on both the Top R&B Albums and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, surging to Nos. 13 and 29, respectively.
Michael Jackson Climbs the Billboard 200
Thriller enjoys its greatest lift on the Billboard 200, a general consumption ranking. On that tally, it rockets 30 spaces north, landing at No. 108. The full-length moved 11,500 equivalent units in the tracking period reflected on the current Billboard charts, with most of that activity coming from streaming platforms.
Michael Jackson's Multiple Hit Albums
Jackson claims a pair of hit albums in the U.S. at the moment, as is often the case. The Essential Michael Jackson, which features many of the songs that come from Thriller as well as numerous other smashes, rises to No. 88 on the Billboard 200 while holding steady on the Top R&B Albums (No. 10) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts (No. 23).

In case you need some help with today's edition, here's our daily Wordle guide with some hints and the answer for Sunday's puzzle (#1,471). It may be that you're a Wordle newcomer and you're not completely sure how to play the game. We're here to help with that too. Wordle is a deceptively simple daily word game that first emerged in 2021. The gist is that there is one five-letter word to deduce every day by process of elimination. The daily word is the same for everyone. Wordle blew up in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they fared each day. The game's success spurred dozens of clones across a swathe of categories and formats. The New York Times purchased Wordle in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The publication said that players collectively played Wordle 5.3 billion times in 2024. So, it's little surprise that Wordle is one of the best online games and puzzles you can play daily. To start playing Wordle, you simply need to enter one five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to that day's secret word by highlighting letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but aren't in the right spot will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess any letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray those out on the virtual keyboard. However, you can still use those letters in subsequent guesses. You'll only have six guesses to find each day's word, though you still can use grayed-out letters to help narrow things down. It's also worth remembering that letters can appear in the secret word more than once. Wordle is free to play on the NYT's website and apps, as well as on Meta Quest headsets and Discord. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you log into a New York Times account, you can track your stats, including the all-important win streak. If you have a NYT subscription that includes full access to the publication's games, you don't have to stop after a single round of Wordle. You'll have access to an archive of more than 1,400 previous Wordle games. So if you're a relative newcomer, you'll be able to go back and catch up on previous editions. In addition, paid NYT Games members have access to a tool called the Wordle Bot. This can tell you how well you performed at each day's game. Cynthia Nixon loves playing 'juicy characters'
Cynthia Nixon feels she's able to "show so many more colours" in her characters at her age. The 59-year-old actress is best known for portraying Miranda Hobbes in the Sex and the City series, films and spin-off series And Just Like That..., while she also stars as Ada Brook in hit historical drama The Gilded Age. Cynthia admits she loves getting her teeth into "juicy characters" and prefers playing those who aren't "always nice". She told Best UK magazine: "It has always been the same, just very juicy characters. "I love characters who aren't always nice or who don't always do the right thing. "I'm excited to be at an age where I feel I am being allowed to show so many more colours and have so many more strings in my bow. "The characters I am playing now are so different from what I have done before. The rest is about who I'm excited to work with, be directed by and what writers are creating the character and the story." Cynthia insists it's only "10 per cent curse" that some people will only ever associate her with Miranda. She explained: "It's a tremendous blessing. "I am so proud of the show, the films and everything else. I love that people are still watching and that new people are discovering it. "Miranda gave me so many opportunities. She opened doors for me that never would have been open had it not been for that role. "The only real downside is if people only think of me as that character, but I have been lucky to be offered different kinds of roles. Asked if it's at all frustrating, she replied: "No, 90 per cent per cent blessing and 10 per cent curse maybe [laughs]. I am so proud of Miranda, the shows and the films."

'Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we are moving backwards fast. Immigration policy is destroying the lives of families, not criminals. Women's rights are becoming less and less every day, queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased, and gender-based violence is on the rise. This isn't just policy, it's personal. Fuck them.' That spirit of resistance, justice and care for each other, that's the spirit that drives the work at CTAOP. Although our focus is on the youth in southern Africa, what we're really talking about here tonight is that all lives should be valued. Everyone should have the right to be healthy and safe and should be able to be seen.' Theron launched CTAOP 18 years ago to support young people living in her native South Africa. To date, CTAOP-supported programs have reached more than 4.5 million youth and granted $15 million to organizations in southern Africa. Earlier in the evening, on the red carpet, Theron told me, 'It's quite devastating what's going to happen…It's less than one percent of this budget that everyone is talking about and when you compare that to the millions of people that are going to die because of this, it's devastating. It does feel like this event is a little more important than it was last year.' Theron says she regularly lobbies elected officials. 'We do it quite a bit,' she said, adding, 'I will say there are a lot of people who do pick up the phone and are willing to listen and are on our side of understanding.'
