PM Modi likely to be in Kashi in Aug,Sarnath may be venue this time
2
Varanasi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi maintaining a tradition of visiting his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi after every three months, preparations are underway for his next visit due in the month of August itself.
If the visit is finalised, the local party unit is likely to propose making Sarnath as the venue of his public meeting keeping in mind the PM mentioning Buddha's teachings of peace during all his recent diplomatic meetings.
Following his April visit, preparations had begun for his next visit. Bharatiya Janata Party Kashi regional unit President Dilip Singh Patel had said last week that Jul 20 was tentative date of his arrival, but in view of the Shrawan crowd of devotees and pilgrims and the weather conditions, the visit was postponed and is now likely in Aug after the Shrawan month ends.
Following intimation of PM's likely visit, a large number of officials could be found taking stock of a site near the Sarangnath temple for his public meeting. Patel said since the PM's public meeting had already taken place in almost all parts of Varanasi parliamentary constituency, this time focus was on selecting a site at Sarnath. A suitable area will be selected at Sarnath with coordination of the party and district administration when the date of PM's next visit is finalised, he added.
On Tuesday, police and district administration officials visited Sarnath to take a stock of things.
Party sources said, the idea behind selecting a site at Sarnath, where Lord Buddha preached his first sermons after enlightenment, was to give a broader message to the world after teaching a lesson to Pakistan through Operation Sindoor and at a time Russia and Ukraine were in conflict. During his Austria visit in Jul 2024, Modi had said, "India has given Buddha to the world, not 'yuddh'."
In his address at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas convention in Jan, he stated that the future was in Buddha, not yuddha.
During his Independence Day address in 2024, he said, "We are the country of Buddha, 'yuddh' is not our path."
Officials said that the process of listing ready projects for inauguration by the PM and laying the foundation of new ones had also started.

‘Grant martyr status to Pahalgam attack victims'
Kanpur: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday visited the family of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi in Kanpur on Sunday and supported the collective appeal for martyr status to all 26 victims. Singh offered condolence to the family and shared comprehensive details about the parliamentary discussions on 'Operation Sindoor'. "The families of all 26 victims, including Shubham's relatives, are united in their request for martyr status recognition. We appeal to the Prime Minister to acknowledge their sentiments. Such recognition would demonstrate solidarity between the govt and citizens against terrorism, whilst honouring the deceased," said Singh, adding that the appeal had garnered widespread support. He said that the matter was extensively deliberated in Parliament, with commitments for continued discussions. "The families also seek govt employment opportunities and compensation for their loss," Singh added. Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh also led a march with the students of primary school of Laxmanpur village, which was merged with other schools. "Their school was moved 2 kilometres away. According to the new decision, the school distance should not be more than 1 kilometre. Will the school open on Monday? If not, there will be a protest," Singh said. PM Modi, Amit Shah meet President Murmu separately at Rashtrapati Bhavan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday called on President Droupadi Murmu separately within hours at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here. It was not known the reasons behind the subsequent meetings of the prime minister and the home minister with the President. "Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on 'X'. Hours later, the Rashtrapati Bhavan again wrote on 'X', "Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan." The home minister also wrote on 'X' sharing a picture of his meeting with President Murmu. "Called on Hon'ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji at Rashtrapati Bhavan." However, there is no words so far from the prime minister's office. This was the first meeting of the prime minister with the President after his recent visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives. The meetings came against the backdrop of the logjam in Parliament over the Opposition's demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Except discussions in both Houses on Operation Sindoor, Parliament has seen little business ever since the Monsoon session began on July 21. Also, the Lok Sabha last week approved the extension of the President's rule in Manipur for six more months, while the Rajya Sabha is yet to take up the motion for discussion. The President's rule was imposed in the Northeastern state on February 13. The prime minister's meeting with the President also came days after US President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India and an unspecified penalty because of New Delhi's purchases of Russian military equipment and oil. The meetings also came nearly two weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 tendered his resignation as vice president to the President citing health grounds. The vice president also functions as the chairman of Rajya Sabha. The Election Commission last week announced that election of vice president will take place on September 9. The electoral college for the vice-presidential election comprises all elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and all members of the Lok Sabha.
