Son of Norway's Crown Princess facing serious allegations including rape

COPENHAGEN (dpa): Norwegian prosecutors are considering a string of serious charges against the eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit, including sex and drugs allegations, Oslo police announced on Friday.
Marius Borg Høiby, 28, faces a possible 23 charges, including three under Norwegian rape laws, with the reported victims of his various offences put in double figures.
No date has been set for prosecutors to reach a decision following a 10-month police investigation.
Høiby is the princess' son by a relationship before she married Crown Prince Haakon, the 51-year-old heir to the throne.
While Høiby is a member of the family, he does not hold a title and does not have a public role.
Following initial allegations of causing bodily harm and damage to property in August last year, he acknowledged acts of violence directed at his partner at the time when he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
He spoke of psychological problems in a written statement and referred to long-term drug abuse. He has denied other charges, including the sex crime charges.
His behaviour has received widespread negative reporting in Norway.
Mette-Marit's personal history also attracted negative attention at the time of her marriage to Haakon in 2001. The royal couple have two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 21, and Prince Sverre Magnus, 19. - dpa

Thai authorities defuse four bombs in Phuket, arrest suspects
BANGKOK: Thai police have found and defused four explosive devices at Phuket airport and at popular tourist destinations on the holiday island, the Bangkok Post reported on Friday, according to German news agency (dpa). A motorcycle packed with explosives was found at the airport on Wednesday, two devices were found at Patong Beach on the west coast and one at Phromthep Cape at the southern tip. On Tuesday, police arrested two suspects, who divulged details of the explosive devices planted, according to the Khaosod newspaper. Son of Norway princess suspected of three rapes, assaults
OSLO: The 28-year-old son of Norway's crown princess is suspected of three rapes and more than a dozen other offences, Norwegian police said Friday as they announced the closure of an investigation launched 10 months ago. Police attorney Andreas Kruszweski told a press conference the investigation had been turned over to prosecutors, who would decide whether to press charges. Marius Borg Hoiby, who was born as a result of a relationship before Crown Princess Mette-Marit's marriage to Crown Prince Haakon, has been under investigation since his arrest on August 4, 2024 on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend. The arrest led to a slew of allegations against him. Kruszweski said Hoiby was suspected of "one count of rape with sexual intercourse" and "two counts of rape without sexual intercourse." Hoiby's lawyer Ellen Holager Andenaes told news agency NTB that her client rejected the three rape allegations. Kruszewski said Hoiby was also suspected of "four counts of sexually offensive behaviour, one count of abuse in a close relationship, two counts of bodily harm, one count of vandalism, one count of issuing threats, five violations of restraining orders, one count of insulting a police officer, and five traffic offences."--AFP
