Former Texans OC joining Dolphins' coaching staff
Former Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik is set to join the Miami Dolphins' coaching staff as senior passing game coordinator, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Slowik, 37, previously worked with Mike McDaniel as part of both the Washington and San Francisco coaching staffs.
After the Texans' surprising rise in 2023 that ended with an AFC South title and a playoff win, Slowik was a popular name in coaching searches. The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks, and Washington Commanders all interviewed Slowik for their head coaching vacancies before he eventually agreed to a raise to stay in Houston.
However, the Texans offense failed to take a step forward in 2024, finishing No. 22 in yards and No. 19 in points. Injuries played a huge role in those struggles, especially at the wide receiver position, with Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, and Tank Dell all missing time. Shortly after a 23-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, Slowik was fired by Houston.
The Dolphins replaced their wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator after the 2024 season, but retained the rest of the staff. That included quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator Darrell Bevell, who interviewed for the Las Vegas Raiders' offensive coordinator position, but wasn't hired.
Slowik's brother, Ryan, has been on the Dolphins' coaching staff since 2022 and currently works as the team's defensive backs coach and defensive pass game specialist.
