Man arrested after another man seriously injured in stabbing in Sligo
A second male has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of the incident in the Church Hill area at around 5.35am on Monday.
A man, aged in his 30s, has been taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and his condition is said to be stable.
Shortly after the stabbing, a man, also aged in his 30s, was arrested in connection with the incident.
He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at an undisclosed garda station in the Co Sligo area.
The scene has been preserved for technical examination since Monday morning.
In a statement, a garda spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of an incident of alleged assault in Sligo town, that occurred on Monday, August 4 at approximately 5:35am.
"A male (aged in his 30s) was conveyed to Sligo University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His condition is believed to be stable.

Garda car 'deliberately' hit by Northern registered Audi in 'serious incident'
An investigation is underway after a motorist 'deliberately' drove into a Garda car in Louth, causing damage to the vehicle. At around 8:30pm on Saturday, August 3, members of the Louth Roads Policing unit were on patrol as part of the Garda Bank Holiday weekend road safety operation when they were involved in a serious incident. Gardaí have been conducting a dedicated road traffic enforcement operation throughout the August Bank Holiday weekend which commenced at 7am on Thursday, July 31 and will continue until 7am Wednesday, August 6. While patrolling the Ravendale area, north of Dundalk, Gardaí observed a grey Northern Ireland registered Audi A4 acting suspiciously. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver deliberately drove into and caused damage to the Roads Policing patrol car showing a reckless disregard for Garda safety. Gardaí say they are 'working closely' with colleagues in the PSNI to identify those responsible as they appeal for witnesses. Conor McGregor lists €17,500 wine on Dublin menu as price of own stout leaked
Conor McGregor's Dublin pub is selling bottles of wine for a whopping €17,500 while the price of his own-brand stout has been unveiled. The Dubliner has invested millions in acquiring and renovating the Crumlin boozer, but it has listed the upmarket Petrus 2005 red wine for a mouthwatering €17,500. In figures first revealed by the Sunday World, McGregor's pub lists bottles of wine ranging from €32 up to €690 before the big gap to the €17,500 price figure, while bottles of champagne are priced between €150 and €780. A quick Google search shows that the Petrus 2005 sells on the open market for around €5,000. The Petrus 2005 retails at around €5,000 The tabloid also says that McGregor sells his own brand Forged Irish Stout for €6 while a Guinness is €6.50 and lagers are €7.30. McGregor found himself back in the news after three Judges of the Court of Appeal upheld a finding by a jury that he assaulted Ms Hand - whereby they agreed that he raped her in the Beacon Hotel in south Dublin in December 2018. McGregor has been ordered to pay Ms Hand over €2m in legal costs. Those costs are set to be paid to Nikita as is the balance of a €250,000 in damages awarded to her by the jury at the end of the High Court case last November. The Irish Mirror understands that Ms Hand is suing McGregor - as well as couple Samantha O'Reilly and Stephen Cummins, who were spectacularly withdrawn as witnesses at the final moment of the fighter's appeal. In a comment to the Irish Mirror, Nikita's solicitors stated: "We confirm that further proceedings have been issued in the High Court and a Statement of claims has been prepared and will be served imminently." The Irish Mirror understands the case against McGregor, Ms O'Reilly and Stephen Cummins are for damages for malicious abuse of the process of the court by the Defendants, and each of them, their respective servants and/or agents. She is suing for aggravated and punitive damages as well as costs.

The young man's dad passed away a few years ago FINAL GOODBYE '19 years of happy memories' -Heartbroken mum pays tribute to 'beautiful' son, 19, killed in Dublin collision THE mother of a teenage cyclist who died in hospital following a collision has paid a heartbreaking tribute to the "beautiful" boy. The incident, which involved a car and a bicycle, happened on the R113, Fonthill Road South in Clondalkin shortly after 11:40pm on Sunday, July 27. The cyclist, a 19-year-old man, was raced to Beaumont Hospital in a critical condition. Gardai confirmed this morning that he was pronounced dead at the hospital yesterday August 4. The coroner has been notified and post-mortem examination will be carried out. The deceased has been named locally as Luke Bryne, 19, from Clondalkin. Tragically Luke's dad Shane passed away a number of years ago. In a heartbreaking post on social media his mother Martina McGarry wrote: "My beautiful son you're in peace now. "You put one of the hardest fights you gave me in 19 years of happy memories that I'll cherish forever. "You'll never be forgotten. You will always be in my heart. "I know you will be in heaven looking down on me. You're back home with you dad now gone but never forgotten. "Love you so much son. Sleep tight." 'WILL FOREVER BE MISSED' A family friend also wrote: "Beautiful boy will forever be missed such a gentleman he was. You were the best mother he could of asked for, you gave him the world rest in peace Luke. "Thinking of you and all your family at this heartbreaking time'." Gardai have renewed this appeal for witnesses to the crash to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said: "Road users who may have relevant camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí. "Anyone with information is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station at 01 666 7600, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station." Luke is the 98th person to died on Irish roads this year, nine of whom have been cyclists. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.
