CM Chandrababu Naidu to distribute pensions in Konaseema today
Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Konaseema district on Saturday. He will participate in the 'Serving the Poor' programme in Cheyyeru, Katrenikona mandal, Mummidivaram constituency. As part of this initiative, he will personally visit beneficiaries' homes to hand over pension amounts. Following this, he will attend a public meeting at the Prajavedika.
With Sunday being the 1st day of the month, the government is distributing pensions a day earlier. For June, the government has already released Rs 2,717.90 crore for 63 lakh beneficiaries. In Ambedkar Konaseema district alone, 2,35,860 beneficiaries are set to receive Rs 101.16 crore in pension funds.
New 'Spouse Pension' initiative launched: In a significant move, the coalition government has introduced a 'Spouse Pension' system to address delays faced by widows applying for pensions after their spouse's demise. Previously, beneficiaries would have to reapply, potentially losing out on one or two months of pension payments. Under this initiative, 71,000 individuals across the State will receive spouse pensions on June 12.
The coalition government has also introduced a facility allowing beneficiaries to collect up to three months of pending pensions at once, a welcome change from the previous system where failing to collect one month's pension would result in forfeiture for the subsequent month. This month, 1,22,975 beneficiaries will receive a combined two months' pension, while 9,176 beneficiaries will receive three months' worth. The government has released Rs 111.41 crore for these combined payouts.
The State government is diligently implementing one of India's largest welfare programmes. Approximately 64 lakh people receive pensions across various categories each month, with amounts ranging from Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000, delivered directly to their homes. In total, the coalition government is expected to spend Rs 34,000 crore on pensions over a 12-month period. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is personally participating in these pension distribution programmes, providing financial security to the poor.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a new building of the Central Forensic Science Lab (CFSL) at Rajarhat in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district and said it was a significant step towards building a data- and evidence-based justice system in eastern India. 'The new laws have laid special emphasis on evidence, documents, forensic science, and punishment of the guilty based on them,' he said. 'This FSL will play a special role in explaining their importance, implementing them, and delivering the right evidence to the specific police station.' The home minister also spoke about the central government's vision of creating a nationwide network of forensic science labs, serving clusters of three or four states. He announced that the Ministry of Home Affairs would dedicate the next one to two years to developing the overall infrastructure and training for this initiative. 'A nationwide campaign to disseminate forensic information to police stations is set to commence from January 2026, aiming to fully inform the country's criminal justice system. This enhanced forensic infrastructure would significantly streamline and expedite the investigation process, leaving no room for doubt and ensuring that the guilty are punished and the aggrieved receive justice,' he said. Shah urged all police stations, courts, and public prosecutors to understand and utilise the new system to its full potential, facilitating scientific conclusions in complex cases with expert assistance. The new Rajarhat CFSL building will house facilities for various forensic disciplines, including biology, serology, DNA testing, narcotics, chemistry, computer science, psychology, and physics, ensuring comprehensive expert support. Shah stressed the importance of staying 'two steps ahead' of criminals, especially with financial transactions, communication, and identity increasingly moving online. He cited examples of how DNA identification has solved decades-old cases and how mobile forensics, call data, apps, and psychological profiling are aiding in uncovering the source of crimes. 'Our criminal justice system is moving in a new direction,' he added. Shah also used the platform to mention the recently enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), stating that these laws were made by the elected government for the people of India, replacing 160-year-old British-era legislation. Delhiites will judge quality of BJP govt's Ayushman Mandirs: Health Minister Singh
Delhi Health and Family Welfare Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh on Sunday hit out at the AAP for comparing the upcoming Ayushman Mandirs with the doorstep health centres built by the previous government. "The people of Delhi can see for themselves what happened in the name of Mohalla Clinics and how Ayushman Mandirs are shaping up under the vision of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi," Minister Singh told IANS. The Minister hit out at AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj for questioning the BJP government's performance and calling Ayushman Mandirs a "repackaged version" of the AAP government's Mohalla Clinics. "Bharadwaj seems to be suffering from amnesia. He doesn't realise that Delhiites have rejected his party and him in the elections," said Health Minister Singh. "When the people of Delhi were asking them for water for ten years, they neither provided drinking water nor cleaned the Yamuna. They only misled people in the name of Mohalla Clinics," he said. The Minister said that rather than questioning the Delhi government on the women's financial assistance scheme, the AAP leaders should reply to the questions being asked by women of Punjab on the "unfulfilled promise" of Rs 1,000 monthly financial assistance. Committee set up in Ludhiana to handle election seizures
LUDHIANA: In view of the upcoming Ludhiana West by-election and following the instructions in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the Election Commission of India, the district administration of Ludhiana has constituted a four-member committee. This committee is tasked with handling cases related to the seizure of cash and other materials by flying squad teams (FST), static surveillance teams (SST), and excise teams to strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct, according to an official statement. As per the statement, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. District Treasury Officer Arun Kumar , ACFA Rakesh Kansal, and SO Shivinder Singh are its members. The statement further explained that, as per guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the committee will make decisions regarding the seizure and release of cash and other items confiscated during checks to avoid inconvenience to the general public. Election officials stated that the committee would examine each case of seizure by the police, FST, and SST on its own initiative. Upon confirming that the confiscated material was not linked to any political party or candidate, the committee would issue orders for the release of such seizures. Notably, carrying up to Rs 50,000 in cash requires no documentation. However, amounts between Rs 50,000 and Rs 10 lakh must be accompanied by valid proof, while cash exceeding Rs 10 lakh, even with documentation, will be reported to the Income Tax Department for further scrutiny by the seizing teams.
