PM Narendra Modi visits Air India plane crash site, meets injured victims and lone survivor at hospital
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
on Friday visited the site of the Air India plane crash, in which 265 people lost their lives, and met the injured victims at the civil hospital.
Modi arrived at the
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport
in the morning and drove straight to the plane crash site, officials said.
He spent around 20 minutes inspecting the site, where the
Boeing 787 Dreamliner
aircraft (AI171) crashed into a complex of
B J Medical College
in the
Meghaninagar
area shortly after taking off on Thursday afternoon.
Civil Aviation Minister
Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu
and Gujarat Minister of State for Home
Harsh Sanghavi
informed the prime minister about how the plane crashed into the college hostel and mess.

later visited the city civil hospital, where he spoke to
Vishwas Kumar Ramesh
, the
lone survivor of the tragedy
and met the injured victims.

He visited the C7 ward of the hospital, where 25 injured people are undergoing treatment, and also interacted with the doctors.
The prime minister spent around 10 minutes at the hospital.
Modi is meeting state and civil aviation officers at the GujSail office near the Ahmedabad airport.
The London-bound aircraft with 242 people on board, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, crashed moments after taking off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Vishwas Kumar Ramesh was the only survivor, while 241 on board, including 168 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian, were killed.
Four MBBS students and a doctor's wife were among those killed at the complex of BJ Medical College outside the airport perimeter.

Onus on officials to provide quality education to students: Bhuse
Nashik: School education minister Dada Bhuse on Friday said while state govt was taking steps to boost student attendance in zilla parishad schools, it was up to education officials and teachers to deliver quality education to students. "State govt will welcome students across the state on their first day on June 16. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar will join too in welcoming students to govt schools. I urge all elected representatives and govt officers, including police and bank officials, to attend the programmes at every school," Bhuse said, after reviewing the performance of the education department of Nashik Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad in the presence of industry minister Uday Samant, MLA Kishore Darade, Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Ashima Mittal, deputy director of education BB Chavan, and others. The school education minister said, "While govt was taking measures to increase the admissions to schools, the education department officials should ensure they provide quality education to the students and retain them." Bawankule meets protesting Bachchu Kadu, Cong backs his stir
Nagpur/Amravati: Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday met ex-MLA Bachchu Kadu at Amravati and urged him to end his indefinite fast, which has continued for six days now. On Friday, the Congress also threw its weight behind Kadu's ongoing agitation for farmers, just a day after NCP (Sharad) MLA Rohit Pawar drove down to the Amravati protest site where Kadu is on indefinite fast. Earlier on Friday, high drama unfolded at the protest site, when a member of Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party consumed poison, and was rushed to the hospital by the medical team present on site. The activist, identified as Ajay Bhagwatrao Chaudhary, has been admitted to a private hospital at Warud. Chaudhary, like many other Prahar activists, had turned restless on Friday citing 'government's apathy' towards Kadu's Annatyag Andolan, now into its sixth day, at Gurukunj Mozari (about 30km from Amravati city). Kadu's agitation raises issues related to farmers, divyangs, widows, fishermen etc. Before Bawankule's visit too the govt has tried to persuade Kadu to withdraw the agitation. Ministers Bharat Gogawale, Pankaja Munde and Jaykumar Gore held online meetings with Kadu, who expressed his resolve to continue the agitation as no concrete assurance reportedly came out of these meetings.
