
‘Poshan Pakhwada' held for pregnant, lactating women in Visakhapatnam
The MLA was the chief guest at the 'Poshan Pakhwada' programme, held under the aegis of the ICDS Urban Project, Marripalem Sector, at Madhava Swamy Kalyana Mandapam of 51st ward, on Monday.
He distributed fruits and sweets to pregnant women as part of the 'Seemantham' programme. He said that the programme was being organised to create awareness of the need for a balanced diet for the proper growth of children.
Urban CDPO Ramani Kumari said that the 'Poshan Pakhwada' programme, which commenced on April 8, would continue till April 22. Marripalem Sector Supervisor J.N. Jyothi was present.
Earlier, the MLA went around the stalls put up by the Anganwadis.

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday emphasised the need for a robust monitoring and evaluation system to ensure quality production and distribution of chhatua (a fortified food mix) under the take-home-ration (THR) scheme aimed at combating malnutrition. Reviewing various programmes of the Women and Child Development department at a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, the chief minister said the health of children and women is crucial for the state's development and cannot be compromised under any circumstance. It is essential to have rigorous monitoring and evaluation at every stage of this system starting from production of chhatua to packaging and distribution. Under the supplementary nutrition scheme, over 43.92 lakh beneficiaries are provided chhatua and other nutritional supplements through 546 self-help groups (SHGs). Majhi directed the department to prioritise the construction of Anganwadi centres in areas where there is no permanent building due to non-availability of government land. In such cases, the department is free to buy land for the purpose. He further emphasised on repair and maintenance of existing centres and mandated 100 coverage of own buildings for Anganwadis in OMBADC and DMF districts with allocation of funds from these sources. He also directed the department to expand the coverage under the Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana to ensure nutritional supplements reaches children and women unable to visit Anganwadi centres to collect their the ration with timely delivery to their homes. The chief minister asked the department to involve micro and small industries in supplying uniforms and footwear for Anganwadi children. The meeting was attended by the deputy chief minister and W&CD minister Pravati Parida, chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, development commissioner, Anu Garg and W&CD principal secretary Shuba Sharma and other senior officers.

Viper scare at Kakkanad anganwadi triggers safety review
Kochi: A four-year-old child's encounter with a viper snakelet at an anganwadi in Kakkanad on Monday has raised fresh concerns over safety of public education institutions in the district. The child was hospitalized as a precaution but she was later discharged after doctors ruled out the possibility of a snake bite. The incident occurred at Chathanveli smart anganwadi near NGO Quarters, which comes under Thrikkakara municipality. According to the anganwadi staff, the child complained of a suspected snake attack while washing hands at a washbasin. A subsequent inspection revealed the presence of a viper snakelet, prompting staff to immediately shift the child to a hospital in Kakkanad. Ernakulam district integrated child development services (ICDS) programme officer Sudha S said the anganwadi obtained required fitness certification from local body. She added that an inquiry would be conducted to determine how the snake entered the premises. "There are 2,858 anganwadis under ICDS in the district, all of which must have a valid fitness certificate. Gujarat govt to recruit 9,000 anganwadi workers and helpers
Gandhinagar: The state govt on Monday announced plans to recruit over 9,000 anganwadi workers and helpers under the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). This initiative aims to tackle malnutrition, improve child health, and generate local employment for women. An official statement said women aged between 18 and 33 years can apply online via the e-HRMS web portal until Aug 30. The highest number of vacancies is in Kutch (619), followed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (568), Banaskantha (547), Anand (394), and Mehsana (393). Candidates will be selected on merit according to districts and civic bodies. Anganwadi helpers with over 10 years of experience will get priority while being considered for promotion to anganwadi worker posts. An official statement said that those applying for anganwadi workers' post must have passed Class 12 or Class 10 with two-year AICTE-recognised course. Those applying for anganwadi helpers' post need to have passed Class 10. Selected women will work in their own localities, focusing on health and nutrition for children under six, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.
