Lions hosting Georgia linebacker for 'top-30' visit

Lions hosting Georgia linebacker for 'top-30' visit Chambliss is generally projected as a Day 3 linebacker after leading Georgia in sacks in 2024
The Lions hosted Georgia linebacker Chaz Chambliss on an official top-30 visit this week, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network.
Chambliss had a breakout season in 2024, recording a team-high 6.5 sacks with 41 tackles for the Bulldogs. He had one sack and five tackles between the SEC Championship against Texas and the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal against Notre Dame.
The Lions are likely to prioritize pass rush this offseason in an effort to build depth behind Aidan Hutchinson. Chambliss can be a developmental depth piece that will likely be available late in the draft or even go undrafted. Chambliss was not invited to the Scouting Combine.
As a quick refresher, teams are allowed to bring 30 prospects to their facilities for a pre-draft visit. These visits are colloquially referred to as "top-30" visits. They are not necessarily their top 30 prospects. These could simply be players teams want more information about in some form. Chambliss is a good example because he wasn't at the Scouting Combine, so teams weren't able to get medical information on him. This visit could simply be for that.
With the Combine over, you're going to hear plenty of "top-30" talk over the next month plus. Draft season has kicked into high gear and will soon be hitting its homestretch.

Packers invite kids to lend their bikes to Seattle players before joint practice

The Green Bay Packers put out a call to kids to provide bikes for the joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 21. The teams will begin their practice at 10:30 a.m. at Ray Nitschke and Clarke Hinkle Fields, but they'll start at Lambeau Field well before then. The joint practice is the final practice open to the public this season. The Packers play the Seahawks at 3 p.m. Aug. 23 at Lambeau Field. They open the regular season at 3:25 p.m. Sept. 7 against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. It is a tradition for Packers players, and in recent years, of those from visiting teams, to ride bikes, accompanied by their owners, from the Lambeau Field locker rooms to the practice fields east of the stadium. Players from several other teams, the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans among them, have joined in the experience. Kids who want to provide bikes for Packers players can line up in Lot 1 near the Oneida Nation gate on the east side of the stadium. Kids who want to provide bikes for Seahawks players can line up near the Invisalign gate at the end of Valley View Road on the south side of the stadium. There are usually more than enough bikes for Packers players. Fans can gather as early as 8 a.m., but are asked to be in place by 9:30 a.m. at the latest. Bike corrals will be in place at both places to allow kids and players to make contact. The Packers will open practice at Ray Nitschke Field, entering off of Armed Forces Drive, the Seahawks at Clark Hinkle Field, entering through the gate on South Oneida Street. After the teams warm up, they will conduct a joint practice on Ray Nitschke Field. After practice, the Packers will meet bike kids on Armed Forces Drive. Seahawks players will meet kids at the entrance to Lot 1 across from Clarke Hinkle Field and west of South Oneida Street. Rookie Isaac TeSlaa Stands Out in Lions Camp

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes had high praise for rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa, who was an underrated prospect coming out of college; the Lions drafted him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But TeSlaa has made his presence known throughout the Lions' offseason program and into the preseason. Appearing on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Holmes said TeSlaa's grittiness and love for the team make him a perfect fit for the Lions' culture.

Lions predicted to move on from former third-round pick in favor of 19-game starter

Lions predicted to move on from former third-round pick in favor of 19-game starter originally appeared on The Sporting News The Lions have already played three preseason games and have one more remaining before kicking off the regular season. Of course, the Lions played in the Hall of Fame Game against the Chargers last month, so those two teams will have one more preseason game than everybody else. This also means the Lions have more chances to evaluate their roster than the other teams. One of the positions that has been exciting to watch is the backup quarterback spot. Entering the offseason, former third-rounder Hendon Hooker was seen as the favorite to land the job. Hooker had an extremely productive college career and was seen as an interesting NFL prospect. However, the Tennessee product suffered a torn ACL during his final collegiate season and didn't see any action in his rookie season as a result. Hooker has since been unable to gain any momentum in the NFL, and now he appears to have fallen behind veteran journeyman Kyle Allen for the QB2 role in 2025. In fact, Dan Campbell even recently confirmed that Allen is leading Hooker as of now. Erik Schlitt and Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit published an updated 53-man roster projection after the third preseason game, and Hooker didn't make the cut. Regarding the backup quarterback spot, Reisman offered the following: Dan Campbell ensured there was no question about who the current leader for the backup job is, but now the question is whether the Lions will keep Hooker around as a third. The best case I can make for it is that he's still on a cost-controlled rookie contract, and I'm not putting further development out of the question. However, this is a championship-level ballclub right now, and roster spots are too valuable. Keeping only two quarterbacks likely means adding one after cutdowns, because Hooker is unlikely to clear waivers. A brand-new practice squad QB is far from ideal, but it's the hand Detroit has been given. As Reisman mentioned, Campbell has made it clear who the favorite to be the backup is, and there's no guarantee the team keeps three passers on the main roster. The Lions are ready to compete, and with one of the deepest rosters in the league, it may not be practical to keep three quarterbacks. However, due to Hooker's college production and relative youth, there is a high chance he would be claimed by another team. Having to find a third quarterback for the practice squad/emergencies wouldn't be ideal, but it may be the most likely scenario. In the Hall of Fame Game, Hooker completed just three of his six pass attempts for 18 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Hooker didn't have much more success in the second preseason game, finishing with just 38 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Finally, against the Dolphins last weekend, Hooker had another bad performance. The quarterback completed six of his 13 passes for just 61 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. It's hard to argue that Hooker deserves the QB2 spot over Allen. Allen has been a journeyman in his career, but he has had good moments and definitely has looked better in recent times.
