Conservative campaign manager Jenni Byrne says she won't run the next campaign
OTTAWA — The Conservative party will have a new campaign manager in the next federal election, now that Jenni Byrne says she's stepping back from the role she held this spring.
Byrne, who remains a key adviser to party leader Pierre Poilievre, also ran campaigns for former prime minister Stephen Harper in 2011 and 2015.
She has been the target of criticism since April 28, with some Conservatives calling for her to be fired after the party's fourth straight election loss to the Liberals.
Byrne recently gave a wide-ranging interview to a podcast called Beyond a Ballot, which says its mission is to get more women interested in politics.
She says the decision not to focus the Conservative campaign on U.S. President Donald Trump and his tariffs was the right one.
Byrne says the Liberals won because Prime Minister Mark Carney 'lied' about his ability to negotiate with Trump, while the Conservatives maintained the voter base that polls showed they had in January.

A Colombian senator shot in June falls back into critical condition after hemorrhaging

(AP Photo/Ivan Valencia, File) BOGOTÁ, Colombia — Colombian Sen. Miguel Uribe Turbay, who was shot in June during a campaign rally in Bogotá and remains hospitalized, experienced a hemorrhage in his nervous system and is once again in critical condition, authorities said Saturday. The Fundación Santa Fe clinic that is treating him said in a statement that Uribe Turbay required 'urgent neurosurgical procedures' to stabilize him, adding that he was placed under deep sedation to aid his recovery. Uribe Turbay was shot three times, twice in the head, while giving a campaign speech in a park on June 7. Since then, he has remained in an intensive care unit in serious condition with episodes of slight improvement. Two months after the attack, his wife, María Claudia Tarazona, posted the following message on Instagram: 'My sweet love, I miss you so much that it tears my soul apart. Come back to me, God willing.' Six people have been prosecuted for the attack, while a minor collaborating in the investigation escaped from a detention center. Among those arrested is Cristian Camilo González Ardilla, alias 'El Costeño,' whom authorities believe was the planner and organizer of the attack and considered key to help investigators track down its masterminds.

Conservative calls on minister to apologize to Christian singer over cancellations
Christian musician Sean Feucht of California sings to the crowd during a rally at the National Mall in Washington, Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020. THE CANADIAN PRESS/AP-Jose Luis Magana A Conservative MP is calling on Identity and Culture Minister Steven Guilbeault to apologize to U.S.-based Christian musician Sean Feucht after the permits for recent concerts in venues overseen by Parks Canada were revoked. Marilyn Gladu, the Opposition critic for civil liberties, says in a letter dated Friday that denying the permits did not 'preserve the principle of inclusion' but had the opposite effect in excluding Feucht and many Canadians who had planned to attend the events. Feucht describes himself as a musician, missionary, author and activist. Having spoken out against what he calls 'gender ideology,' abortion and the LGBTQ+ community, his religious and political views have faced criticism while having grabbed the attention of U.S. President Donald Trump's administration. Feucht ran unsuccessfully as a Republican candidate for Congress in 2020. Gladu says in her letter that regardless of whether you agree or not with Feucht's views, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees freedom of expression in Canada. A number of concerts planned in various parts of Canada were cancelled abruptly, with Feucht having to switch venues to hold them. The Canadian Press
