Global interest grows in Rele Mofokeng as Pyramids FC join race for Orlando Pirates star

In demand CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC have joined the race to sign Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng, Photo: Itumeleng English/Independent Media Image: Itumeleng English/Independent Media After missing out on Lucas Ribeiro, African champions Pyramids FC have now set their sights on Orlando Pirates starlet Relebohile Mofokeng. After the Brazilian's impressive performance at the recently completed FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, a number of clubs have been interested in his services and have approached Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Sundowns are said to have no intention of letting their star man go and have rebuffed all offers for him so far. As a result, attention has turned to Mofokeng, who has also attracted interest from a number of clubs from around the world of late. It was also reported that Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven were weighing up their options, but this too has since been dismissed by Pirates as untrue. Two weeks ago, Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy, currently the head coach of the Kenya national team, urged Mofokeng to move to Europe in order to keep growing as a footballer. 'I've watched him several times, and I think he's got huge potential. He's got the mentality and football intelligence of players from my generation,' McCarthy said when answering IOL Sport's question. 'He's generations ahead of the current crop of players. I think he's got what it takes to make it in Europe. I would encourage him to find a way to play in Europe. South Africa, yes, it has some of the best players in Africa, but Africa is a small continent in football terms. 'When you play in Europe, you get the chance to play against the biggest and the best. It's you against the world.' With growing interest from top leagues, Mofokeng's future appears destined to unfold beyond South African shores. Mamelodi Sundowns star joins Simba in shock transfer twist

Mamelodi Sundowns star Rushine De Reuck has officially joined Tanzanian giants Simba SC after parting ways with Masadawana, in a move that reunites him with former coach Fadlu Davids. The 29-year-old centre-back has signed a one-year deal and is set to arrive in Dar es Salaam on Sunday to begin pre-season training. Simba SC wasted no time bolstering their backline, with De Reuck coming in as a direct replacement for Cameroonian defender Che Malone Fondoh, who recently signed with Algerian outfit USM Alger. The club has also released captain Mohammed 'Shabalala' Hussein following the expiration of his contract. He is tipped to join fierce rivals Yanga SC. Centre-backs Hussein Kazi and Kelvin Kijiri have also exited. Signalling a defensive overhaul under Davids, who prepares for his second season in charge. De Reuck reunites with Fadlu Davids, with whom he previously worked at Maritzburg United. The South African international left Sundowns after both parties agreed to a mutual termination, enabling him to join Simba SC as a free agent. Speaking to insiders, club officials believe the move is a major upgrade. 'Davids is well aware of his ball skills and will undoubtedly be an upgrade over Che Malone,' a source revealed. The coach values De Reuck's technical quality and experience. Especially for Simba's upcoming CAF Champions League campaign. Last season, Simba SC reached the CAF Confederation Cup final and finished second in the Tanzanian Premier League. Behind arch-rivals Yanga. With their eyes now set on ending Yanga's four-year dominance. The signing of De Reuck marks a strategic step toward that goal. De Reuck's move offers him a fresh start after a challenging stint at Sundowns. He spent the second half of the previous season on loan at Maccabi Petah Tikva in Israel. Where he featured in four matches between February and March after requesting more playing time. Will the Mamelodi Sundowns defender thrive in Tanzania? Orlando Pirates news: Coach Ouaddou backed to surpass Riveiro

Orlando Pirates legend Edward Motale has thrown his support behind new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, boldly predicting that the Moroccan mentor will surpass the achievements of his predecessor, Jose Riveiro. Ouaddou takes over a finely-tuned club after Riveiro led Pirates to six finals and five trophies in three seasons. However, Motale believes the new man in charge brings something different. 'What I appreciate about him is that he has played the game at the highest level,' Motale told KickOff . 'So he understands what it takes to succeed in football.' Ouaddou's first official test will come in the MTN8 quarter-finals against Polokwane City. Riveiro famously won the competition in his debut season, and expectations are high that Ouaddou can repeat that feat. Motale, who captained Orlando Pirates to the 1995 CAF Champions League title, is encouraged by the squad Ouaddou is assembling. With ten signings made so far, competition is fierce across all positions. 'You can see that the coach believes in hard work and youth,' said Motale. 'He's done his research. The team he has put together will compete strongly this season.' The former Marumo Gallants coach was praised for the impact he had at the Limpopo-based club late last season. Despite joining with only five games remaining, he managed to steady the ship and gain respect from players and supporters alike. 'If he had arrived earlier, he would have done even better with them,' said Motale. 'He brought direction to that team.' With Ouaddou's vision, the depth of the squad, and a renewed sense of purpose, the Buccaneers are aiming to challenge for top honours. 'Orlando Pirates will definitely win the league this coming season,' Motale predicted. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
