Range Rover Electric to skip frunk despite many EV makers marketing it as a key USP

Why put a storage compartment at a place that requires the user to lean against the dirtiest part to put stuff in? Exactly, this is the philosophy that is driving the luxury British car marque Land Rover to skip something that many carmakers market as one of the USPs in their electric vehicles. The Tata Motors-owned luxury auto OEM is working on the fully electric Range Rover, which will not have a front trunk, popularly dubbed as frunk.
Unlike many automakers that offer a front trunk in their electric vehicles in place of an engine in a conventional fossil fuel car, the Range Rover EV will not feature one. In an interaction with the Australian automotive magazine CarExpert, the Range Rover Electric's chief engineer, Lynfel Owen, explained why the first Range Rover EV won't have a supplementary front cargo area.

The automaker reportedly surveyed customers on this matter, and the consensus was that the rear luggage space was sufficient. Owen confirmed that the rear cargo space will match that of the ICE-powered SUV, with no need to raise the floor to accommodate the 117-kWh battery pack. However, consumer feedback was not the only reason behind Land Rover's decision to skip the front trunk. 'Why would I want to lean against the dirtiest part of the car to put stuff?" said Own.
Removal of the front trunk for the upcoming Range Rover Electric comes as a shift in the design philosophy of the automaker. Jaguar Land Rover took a different approach with the I-Pace, which offered a small 27-litre capacity front trunk in that EV, which was discontinued late last year. The I-Pace struggled with reliability and frequently ranked near the bottom of customer satisfaction surveys.
The upcoming Range Rover Electric will pack the 344 prismatic cells in a double-stacked layout, which will not allow the automaker to offer the EV in a three-row seating configuration as there won't be much space. However, the battery packing will not impact the rear storage.
Speaking about the EV, Own said that it will come with go-anywhere capabilities. 'This is still a Range Rover. It is not an EV. There really isn't another EV out there doing what this car does. Not at this level of off-road ability with this type of luxury," he added.
The Range Rover Electric's world premiere is scheduled for later in 2025, with deliveries expected to kick off next year.

NCLAT clears way for insolvency proceedings against Supertech Realtors, upholds NCLT order

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has cleared the way for insolvency proceedings against Supertech Realtors, the developer of the Supernova project, which comprises residential apartments, offices, retail space, and a luxury hotel. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Appellate Tribunal has upheld the previous order passed by the Delhi bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which had, on June 12, 2024, directed the initiation of the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) over a petition filed by Bank of Maharashtra, claiming default. A two-member NCLAT bench said the revised proposal submitted by its promoter, Ram Kishore Arora, for settlement has not been accepted by the Consortium of Banks. "We are of the view that the present is a case where the resolution of the Corporate Debtor (Supertech Realtors) has to be undertaken as per the I&B Code and CIRP Regulations, 2016, in accordance with law. We, thus, upheld the order of the Adjudicating Authority (NCLT) admitting the Section 7 application and dismissing the appeal," said NCLAT. The appellate tribunal also gave a go-ahead to the interim resolution professional appointed by NCLT to constitute the CoC (Committee of Creditors) and proceed with the CIRP in accordance with the law. Supertech Realtors is a subsidiary of realty firm Supertech, which is also facing insolvency proceedings along with some other group companies. Supertech Realtors is developing the Supernova project at a cost of Rs 2,326.14 crore on a land measuring 70,002 square metres at Sector 94, Noida. As per the plans, the Supernova project will have 80 floors and will be the tallest building in Delhi-NCR at a height of 300 metres. Earlier, the NCLAT had put the process of constitution of the lender body CoC on hold on July 3, 2024, over Arora's plea. He had not raised any dispute. Regarding the debt and default of Bank of Maharashtra, the realty firm -- with assistance from investor M/s Kotak Advisors --submitted a settlement proposal offering 75 per cent of the running ledger book balance. However, this was rejected by the consortium of lenders. Meanwhile, the NCLAT has been periodically extending its interim order staying the formation of CoC, as Arora has pleaded that 80 per cent of the project is complete and investors have offered to infuse funds for its construction. Finally, the consortium of banks also rejected a revised OTS proposal submitted by Arora with Parmesh Construction Company as Co-Developer, after which NCLAT moved ahead. The appellate tribunal also declined Ram Kishore Arora's plea to challenge the decision of the Financial Creditor not accepting the OTS (one time settlement) proposal submitted by him. "We are of the view that reasons which persuaded the Banks not to accept the OTS proposal cannot be gone into in these proceedings. Present is not a case, where an application filed under 12A for withdrawal of CIRP has not been approved by CoC with 90 per cent vote share, which decision has been held to be subject to judicial review on limited grounds that the decision of CoC is arbitrary," said a 32-page-long NCLAT order. The Bank of Maharashtra submitted that the dues of all Consortium Banks are above Rs 990 crore, and the Banks in their Joint Lenders' Meeting held on June 13, 2025, have deliberated on all aspects of the matter and decided not to accept the OTS. Arora further claimed that he was not informed about the rejection of the OTS proposal. On this banks replied that the decision of the Consortium was communicated by Union Bank of India, which is the lead bank of the consortium, on July 15, 2025, and a copy of the letter has already been brought on record by them in their compilation submitted before NCLAT. For the project, Supertech Realtors approached a consortium of lenders led by Union Bank of India seeking financial assistance of Rs 7,35.58 crore. Out of this, it had also requested a credit facility of Rs 150 crore, which was granted by Bank of Maharashtra. In December 2012, a term loan of Rs 150 crore was granted. The term loan was repayable in quarterly installments in the consolidated door-to-door tenor for 10 years and 4 months by March 2023. However, Supertech Realtors failed to maintain financial discipline and defaulted in properly maintaining the said accounts in addition to committing other breaches and violations of the credit limit, leading to the accumulation of huge outstanding.

Jaguar Land Rover to recall over 121,500 cars in US, blame it on a faulty suspension

Tata Motors-owned British luxury car marque Jaguar Land Rover to recall more than 121,500 cars in the United States owing to a suspension knuckle issue. The recall affected cars include the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models in the country. The affected vehicles will be inspected by the technicians, and the faulty parts will be fixed or replaced without any cost to the customers. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in an official statement, has said that the potentially affected cars from Jaguar and Land Rover have faulty front suspensions. The NHTSA has stated that the aluminium front suspension knuckles, which connect the front wheels to the vehicle's critical components like the brake assembly, are at the centre of this recall. The agency has also said that the faulty suspension parts could crack and possibly increase the risk of a crash, which could be fatal if the vehicle is in speeds. The recall comes after the agency launched a preliminary investigation into 91,856 Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles over fractured front steering knuckles back in June this year. Just a few days back, Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of ₹4,003 crore for the first quarter of FY26, down by 62.2 per cent from the ₹10,587 crore recorded in the same quarter last year. The auto company attributed this drop in profit to lower sales volumes across segments and a dip in JLR's profits due to the US tariffs. Tata Motors has also stated that the revenue of JLR dropped by 9.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis in the last quarter of this fiscal, as compared to the first quarter of the last financial year. JLR's revenue for the quarter slumped to 6.6 billion pounds. The company attributed this decline to lowered wholesale volumes due to tariffs and the planned phase-out of legacy Jaguar models. Meanwhile, JLR is undergoing a leadership change with PB Balaji slated to take over as the new CEO from November 17, 2025. Check out Upcoming Cars in India 2025, Best SUVs in India. DRDO develops minefield marking system for Indian Army to enable faster, semi-automated deployment

The Indian Army uses minefield marking as a critical activity to provide immediate warnings and visual signs near hazardous areas. This process, which involves placing pickets and tying ropes between them, establishes a physical barrier that distinguishes known danger zones from cleared areas. The task is currently supported by the Minefield Marking Equipment Mk-I, developed by R&DE (E). To enhance the speed and reduce human effort in this process, the Minefield Marking Equipment Mk-II has been developed. The upgraded system is designed for semi-automatic operation with minimal manual intervention. It is capable of marking minefields more efficiently and is suitable for deployment in the plains of Punjab, as well as the semi-desert and desert regions of Rajasthan. Minefield marking: System capabilities and operation The Mk-II equipment is mounted on a TATRA 6x6 vehicle platform and can erect pickets at adjustable distances ranging from 10 to 35 metres in 5-metre intervals. While the system automatically rolls out nylon (polypropylene) ropes from its onboard spools, manual effort is still required to tie the ropes to the pickets at two height levels. The equipment can continuously place up to 500 pickets in one operation. Depending on soil conditions and spacing, it can cover a perimeter of at least 1.2 kilometres per hour using 15-metre intervals. Ten spools are installed onboard, each carrying 1.5 kilometres of rope, enabling the system to support up to 15 kilometres of fencing in a single run. Live Events Also Read: Watch: Indian Army deploy a three-tiered robotic counter-infiltration grid along the LoC against Pakistan Technical specifications The system comprises mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic sub-systems. Its mechanical elements include one picket storage unit , one Picket Holder Assembly (PHA), a pneumatic system, buffer assembly, ten rope spools with braking mechanisms, a container, a platform, one linear motor guide, and seating for two operators. The electrical sub-system includes a power pack, Power Distribution Unit (PDU), linear motor, lighting, and ventilation. A linear motor is used to hammer the pickets into the ground, resting on a stopper when not in use. This stopper is actuated by an electrical actuator. A diesel generator (DG-set) supplies the required power, which is regulated by the PDU based on the equipment's demands. The electronic sub-system features an auto/manual control panel, main and field junction boxes, a Distance Measuring Device (DMD), a driver's display panel, linear motor controller, and various sensors. These components support automatic operation of both electrical and pneumatic actuators. All sub-systems are integrated within a box-type container welded to the platform, which is secured to the vehicle chassis using U-bolts. Deployment and production plans The system is capable of operating within a temperature range of 0 to 45°C and requires a crew of four, including one driver and three operators. The Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Pune, a premier DRDO laboratory, has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Indian industries with the technical and financial capability to manufacture and supply the Minefield Marking Equipment Mk-II with the requisite quality standards.
