‘Sue me': Parab dares Kadam after dance bar allegation

Time of India5 days ago
Mumbai: A day after junior home minister Yogesh Kadam warned that he would move a privilege notice against him for linking him to a Kandivli dance bar and alleged illegal sand mining in Ratnagiri, Sena (UBT) MLC Anil Parab on Tuesday dared him to do that and file a defamation suit, saying it would give him a platform to prove the charges he has levelled.

Demanding Kadam's ouster, Parab said he will submit all documents and pen drives showing proof of his involvement to CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday. He said Fadnavis should seek the Sena minister's resignation because party chief and deputy CM Eknath Shinde would not initiate any action on his own. He said if the CM fails to act, he will move high court.
Kadam maintained that he had no connection to the bar and that it was under his direction that police had acted against such establishments.
"If I had any vested interest, I would have ensured no action was taken against this particular bar."
Last week, Parab had claimed in the legislative council that police had in May raided a dance bar in Kandivli whose license was issued in the name of Kadam's mother and that he diverted sand meant for farmers from a river in Ratnagiri, his home district, to a dental college linked to his family. On Tuesday, he reiterated the allegations.
"...There were women dancing [in the bar]. Money was being thrown. All this information is in police records and the FIR.
I got this information under RTI Act. Therefore, it cannot be false. When the raid was conducted, action was taken against 22 bar dancers, 22 customers and four employees."
Trashing Kadam's claim that he was not aware of the bar's operations, Parab said, "They (Kadam and family) say they do not run the dance bar.

As per the law, if a staffer or someone authorised by the owner commits a misdemeanour, the responsibility lies with the owner."
Alleging that all rules on bar operations have been violated, he said Kadam's father, former minister Ramdas Kadam, sought to quell the controversy by claiming that there should not be a dispute since the bar is in his wife's name. "The minister goes as far as Navi Mumbai to raid dance bars calling them obscene and anti-social, but a dance bar licensed in his mother's name is running. Who will take action against it?"
On the alleged diversion of sand, Parab said, "Sand was supposed to be removed from Mahadev river, but the company was removing it from Savitri river...
After I raised the issue, the removal of sand was stopped."
Dismissing Parab's charges as "baseless and defamatory", Kadam said he would write to the legislative council chairperson, demanding that the MLC's remarks in the House be expunged since they were made in his absence, thereby amounting to a violation of legislative rules.

'When Ravan Crossed...': Rijiju Invokes Ramayana To Target Pakistan Before Op Sindoor Debate

Last Updated: Kiren Rijiju urged the Opposition not to speak anything in the Parliament during the Op Sindoor debate that "favours Pakistan" and harms India's national interest. Hours before the Parliament takes up the Operation Sindoor debate, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday set the tone for the discussion on the topic with a reference to Ramayana and Ravan. He said just a Lanka was burned when Ravan crossed Laxman Rekha, similarly, Pakistan faced the fire when it crossed the red lines drawn by India. He was referring to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 civilians in cold blood, and India's subsequent retaliation on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, which killed over 170 terrorists deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. 'Discussion on #OperationSindoor to begin today… When Ravan crossed the Laxman Rekha, Lanka burned. When Pakistan crossed the red lines drawn by India, terrorist camps faced the fire," Rijiju posted on X. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will open the debate in Lok Sabha at 12 noon today and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi will do the same for his party. Leader of Opposition in the House, Rahul Gandhi, will address the House tomorrow. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may intervene during the discussion, however, the government has yet not confirmed his participation. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Parliament Monsoon Session: Fiery debate on Op Sindoor expected in Lok Sabha today, will Shashi Tharoor speak?

Parliament Monsoon Session: After disruption throughout the first week of the Monsoon Session, Parliament is set to witness a fiery debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor from today. Members of the ruling alliance and the Opposition are expected to clash over the two issues steeped in national security and foreign policy imperatives. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—led ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and opposition parties will field their top leaders during the discussions in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will speak on the issues representing the government side. There are indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also intervene to convey his government's "robust" stand against terrorism. There is, however, no official confirmation on this. The leaders of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, may lead the charge against the government along with Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav and a host of other members. The Congress party has issued a whip to its Lok Sabha MPs, mandating their presence in the House for three days. News agency PTI, quoting sources, said the party's Deputy Leader in the House, Gaurav Gogoi, is expected to begin the opposition party's charge on the first day of the debate today. After the first week of session ended up a virtual washout due to opposition protests on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said on July 25 that the Opposition has agreed to start a discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The two sides have consented to a marathon 16-hour debate in each House, which invariably stretches longer in practice. According to the listed agenda of the Lok Sabha, the House will have a "special discussion on India's strong, succesful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to terrorist attack in Pahalgam". In addition to its battery of ministers and leaders like Anurag Thakur, Sudhanshu Trivedi, and Nishikant Dubey, the ruling NDA is expected to field members from the seven multi-party delegations that travelled to over 30 world capitals to present India's case after Operation Sindoor. They include Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena, Sanjay Jha of the JD(U), and Harish Balayogi of the TDP. A big question mark is whether Shashi Tharoor, who led the delegation to the US, among other countries, will be picked as a speaker by the Congress. The seasoned Lok Sabha member's enthusiastic endorsement of the government's action following the terror attack has soured his ties with his party. Opposition parties have framed their public criticism of the government around alleged intelligence lapses behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians killed, and US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after the four-day military action that ended on May 10. Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly attacked the government's foreign policy, claiming India did not receive international support on Operation Sindoor and has cited Trump's frequent mediation claims to target the ruling alliance. The government has rejected Trump's claims. Modi, on his part, has lauded Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack, for meeting 100 per cent of its objectives and proving the mettle of India's indigenous defence weapons and platforms. The BJP and its allies have highlighted the "new normal" Modi has drawn in fighting terrorism with his muscular response, including striking at terrorist sanctuaries deep inside Pakistan and putting in abeyance the Indus Waters Agreement. Both countries were engaged in a four-day conflict as Pakistan retaliated after India hit facilities housing terrorists with precise strikes. India has asserted that several air bases of the neighbouring country suffered serious damage, and that the two sides agreed to stop military actions after Pakistan reached out to it. A bone of contention persists between the government and the Opposition: the latter's demand for a discussion in Parliament over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by the Election Commission. A united opposition stalled Parliament in the first week primarily over this issue, as it has claimed that the exercise is aimed at helping the BJP-led alliance in the poll-bound state, amid the EC's assertion that it is solely focused on ensuring that only eligible people cast their votes. The government has lauded Operation Sindoor for meeting 100 percent of its objectives. Rijiju has said that every issue cannot be taken up for discussion in Parliament at once, and the government will take a call on the demand for debate on the SIR later in line with the rules.

A day ago, Khadse targeted Mahajan; Opp says misuse of police machinery

A day before the arrest of Eknath Khadse's son-in-law in connection with the alleged drug seizure at a Pune apartment Sunday, the former state minister had launched an attack on BJP minister Girish Maharaj alleging lack of development in Jalgaon. After the arrest as well, Khadse, hinting at his tussle with Mahajan, said: 'I was suspecting that something like this would happen because of the prevailing political scenario.' The Opposition leaders also linked the arrest to Khadse's allegations against Mahajan, claiming that the BJP-led government is using police to target opponents. Meanwhile, minister Mahajan said that if Khadse believed his son-in-law would be framed, he should have alerted him. On Saturday, at a press conference, Khadse targeted his long-time rival Mahajan asking what development has he brought to Jalgaon — both the leaders hail from the district. 'What has he brought for Jalgaon in the name of development ? Where is the textile park project. ? Tell me, which big development project has this minister brought in for Jalgaon district ?…Where is the animal husbandry college ?…For 30 years, several projects of Jalgaon district are pending…I am the only one who was raising issues of Jalgaon and issues of farmers from Maharashtra,' Khadse said. Claiming that he will continue his work on the development front in Maharashtra , he said, 'I have never bowed before anyone and will never bow before anyone…I have always taken things to a logical conclusion.' Challenging Mahajan, Khadse said, 'He should accept the challenge of getting a narco test on Praful Lodha…Why is he running away ?' The Opposition had claimed that Praful Lodha, alleged to be a close aide of Mahajan once, was the alleged mastermind behind a 'honeytrap operation' which was used to bring down the MVA government in 2022. Demanding Mahajan's resignation, Khadse said, 'Girish Mahajan should take moral responsibility and resign…Whenever there is an issue, why is Girish Mahajan's name always right upfront ?' On Sunday, Khadse's son-in-law Pranjal Khewalkar and six others were arrested after the Pune City police said it seized drugs during a raid at an apartment where they were allegedly partying. Minutes after the arrest, Mahajan said, 'At yesterday's press conference Khadse had raised the question as to how drugs are making their way into Chalisgaon. And today, his son-in-law has been caught holding a rave party with drugs.' Mahajan said if Khadse was alleging conspiracy, then he should wait for the investigation to get over. 'His son-in-law is not a small child to be taken away at night,' he said. Slamming the state government over the arrest, Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, 'Khadse held a press conference and spoke against the state government with proof and a day later, his son-in-law was arrested. The government is not ready to investigate the allegations made by Khadse but instead it prefers to arrest those who make allegations.' 'Anything can happen during the tenure of the Mahayuti government. The police machinery is being used to target the opponents of BJP,' he alleged. State Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe alleged that the government is going behind those who bring out its wrongdoings. 'We don't trust what the police and the state government have done. They might even have planted the drugs. This government and its police machinery are highly untrustworthy. The Mahayuti government is going after the opposition leaders and their families because we are bringing out their wrongdoings,' he said.
