Sexual harassment lawsuit by officers against ex-Dearborn Heights sergeant: 'Sick stuff'
A lawsuit filed says an ex-Dearborn Heights police sergeant sexually harassed two young officers, making graphic claims of abuse.
One officer was forced to perform sex acts on bosses at work, the other was sexually harassed and retaliated against, the lawsuit claims.
Sgt. Hashim Zrien and Maxwell Beardon are the officers who say they were victimized, and are named in the suit.
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) - A lawsuit claims a police officer was forced to perform sex acts on bosses at work, while another was sexually harassed and retaliated against.
The civil lawsuit names a former sergeant in the Dearborn Heights Police Department. One of those officers who filed suit, Maxwell Beardon, is on administrative leave from police, suffering from mental health issues as a result of all this.
Now, Michigan State Police are investigating to see if there is anything criminal to pursue.
The backstory
"We are talking about sick, sick stuff," said attorney Jon Marko.
It's all laid out in a graphic, even violent civil suit, naming the ex-sergeant who allegedly sexual harassed young officers, and sexually assaulted one.
"Asking for pictures of their genitals to be sent to their superiors, in one case, forcing oral sex by a superior in a position of power," Marko said.
Marko is representing two officers – Sgt. Hashim Zrien and Beardon.
Officer Beardon says it started with dirty text messages back in 2021 and escalated to requests for nude photos, then oral sex in his office, and in the basement of the Dearborn Heights Police Department.
"The abuse that was going on in this case was rampant, it was out in the open it was systemic," Marko said.
In the suit, Officer Zrien says he's aware of 10 other officers that dealt with the harassment that he allegedly did. A barage of text messages and requests for sex from the same sergeant, Zrien says he denied him – and was retaliated against.
"We have a whole plethora in this case we have messages we have dates, times," Marko said.
As higher ups were looking into the allegations, the sergeant left and was hired at Ann Arbor police, where he is currently employed.
FOX 2 reached out for comment – they didn't have one at this time.
"I have a really good feeling that there are more individuals out there who have been abused as well," Marko said.
Dearborn Heights Police Chief Ahmed Haidar issued a statement, making it clear that these allegations happened before he took over his position recently and that they're cooperating with that MSP investigation.

A Los Angeles-bound flight was diverted to Colorado after a drunk passenger started yelling racist slurs while waving around a skateboard, police said. The Independent has asked the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office for more information. 'The plane was met promptly by local law enforcement officers, who restrained and removed the passenger from the aircraft,' Breeze Airways said in a statement. The flight was delayed in Grand Junction while a new crew was brought in to fly the remaining passengers to LAX, the airline said. The passengers arrived at their final destination around 7.15 p.m. local time. This year, there have been reports of more than 1,000 unruly passengers, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration. That figure marks a dramatic drop from 2021, when the FAA received a whopping 5,973 reports of unruly passengers.

Former Denver Nuggets mascot sues ownership group for disability discrimination
A former Denver Nuggets mascot is speaking out after filing a lawsuit against the team's ownership group, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE), alleging disability discrimination and an unlawful severance offer. Drake Solomon, who portrayed the Nuggets' mascot Rocky from 2021 until this past season, claims he was wrongfully terminated after undergoing double hip replacement surgery. His father had performed as Rocky for more than 30 years before Solomon took over the role. During the NBA team's 2023 championship run, Solomon says he was diagnosed with a painful bone condition that impacted his ability to perform. After notifying supervisors that he would need surgery, Solomon alleges the organization began tryouts for his replacement, citing a lack of confidence in his health. "It came to a point where I was on the court shooting a half-court shot with tears dripping down my face," Solomon recalled. "It's hard thinking about those times. I really wanted to bring the same energy." After surgery, Solomon says he felt ready to return but never got the chance. "For it to end this way, it feels like betrayal," Solomon said. "We were so loyal to them." Solomon says he was offered $20,000 and a non-disclosure agreement as part of his severance agreement. He refused. "It seemed sketchy to me," Solomon explained. "I wasn't going to sign that." Attorneys say the agreement violated nearly every provision of the POWR Act. Solomon believes other employees were offered similar deals. Despite everything, Solomon says he still loves the Nuggets and its fans. He's now seeking a trial in hopes of holding KSE accountable and protecting future employees. "Never wanted things to go down this way," Solomon said. "But there are things they could've handled better -- not just with me -- but with others as well." KSE has not responded to a request for comment.

Orange County high school basketball coach arrested on allegations of sexual assault, grooming minor
An Orange County high school basketball coach was arrested on Wednesday after police learned of allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a minor in recent months. Michael Joseph Duran, 44, is alleged to have been involved with the girl between 2024 and 2025, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. Investigators were contacted by a mandated reporter who told them they believed an inappropriate relationship was happening between Duran and the victim. They contacted the victim and began their investigation. "The victim alleged that Duran, while working as a high school assistant basketball coach at Dana Hills High School, groomed and had a sexual relationship with her," OCSD's news release said. Investigators also said that Duran was a coach with a basketball club in San Juan Capistrano known as SOCAL FINS. "Due to Duran's position as a basketball coach of minor females, ... investigators believe there may be additional victims," OCSD said.
