Centre Bans 25 OTT Platforms For 'Indecent' Representation Of Women: Full List
The government has banned multiple OTT platforms and websites for streaming objectionable and pornographic content. Here's a list of platforms banned.
More than 20 OTT platforms were banned by the government on Friday for being in violation of various laws. The identified 25 apps and websites displayed objectionable content and indecent representation of women, it was known.
The ban is aimed at curbing the easy availability of pornographic material, particularly to minors, and ensuring that digital content remains within the bounds of decency and the law, news agency PTI quoted sources as saying.
As the ban was ordered, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting explicitly directed Internet Service Providers to disable or remove public access to these websites within India.

As the move was announced, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Ravi Kishan said the decision was important as multiple unlicensed OTT platforms were involved in showing soft porn and obscene content.
'The government's decision was important in regards to India's culture," he said.
'Some licensed and unlicensed OTT platforms are making soft porn and obscene films. This is indeed a great decision. There is a ' Laxman Rekha ' (a limit or boundary that must not be violated) for entertainment," he added.
The government found these links in violation of various laws, including Section 67 and Section 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
A government notification stated that the intermediaries are responsible to remove or disable access to unlawful information under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The government also highlighted Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which states that intermediaries lose their exemption from liability if they fail to expeditiously remove or disable access to material being used to commit an unlawful act, even after receiving a notification from the appropriate government agency.

Complaint alleges BJP MP Suresh Gopi is 'missing', student leader seeks probe
A Kerala Students' Union (KSU) leader on Sunday accused senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union minister Suresh Gopi of being 'inaccessible' to the people of his constituency and district for an extended period, and filed a 'missing' complaint with the police. The leader, Gokul Guruvayoor, raised concerns over Gopi's alleged absence from Thrissur, where he serves as the Lok Sabha MP, PTI reported. He alleged that Gopi has not visited the constituency in the last three months and has remained silent on the recent arrest of two Catholic nuns from Kerala in Chhattisgarh. 'Even if Gopi was a leader who had completely concentrated on the Christian vote bank during the last Lok Sabha polls and gifted a golden crown to a church to woo the community votes, he kept mum when the nuns suffered humiliation and arrest in the BJP-ruled state,' Guruvayoor told PTI. The two nuns and a co-accused were arrested for alleged human trafficking and forced conversion and were released from Durg Central Jail in Chhattisgarh on August 1 after a court granted them bail, saying the case was based on 'mere suspicion.' The Catholic nuns, Preethy Mary and Vandana Francis, were welcomed outside the jail by several leaders from Kerala, including LDF MPs. The KSU leader further charged that Gopi was unreachable even when authorities sought his presence for inaugurating a major central government project implemented under the Thrissur Corporation. 'The union minister was inaccessible not just to ordinary people of the constituency, even those in responsible positions in the state could not reach him,' the KSU leader alleged. Gokul said he sent the missing complaint to the East Police via email on Sunday morning and plans to submit a hard copy at the police station on Monday. RG Kar rape case anniversary: Seven cases filed, two BJP MLAs booked for 'assaulting' police during march
KOLKATA: The Kolkata Police have registered seven cases against two BJP MLAs, a party leader and others for allegedly obstructing its personnel from performing their duties, assaulting them and causing damage to public properties during a march to the West Bengal secretariat a day ago, a senior officer said on Sunday. BJP legislators Ashok Dinda, Agnimtra Paul and party leader Kaustav Bagchi and others have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he said. "They were booked for obstructing police operations, assaulting officers, and causing damage to public properties during Saturday's 'Nabanna Abhiyan'," the officer said. The cases, lodged at the Park Street Police Station and Hare Street Police Station, also included non-bailable sections, he said. Chaos and violent agitation dominated the streets of Kolkata and adjacent Howrah on Saturday, a day that marked the completion of one year of the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar hospital, and left the mother of the victim hospitalised with a head injury. During the day, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited the SSKM Hospital, where five policemen, who were injured in a face-off with protesters during Saturday's 'Nabanna Abhiyan', are undergoing treatment. "CCTV footage, other video clips, and footage from drone surveillance are being scanned. We will not be able to say anything until we're analysing the footage. Those who violated the Calcutta High Court's directives, obstructed police operations, assaulted officers and damaged public property are being identified," Verma said. On the allegation of the mother of the deceased doctor that she was beaten up by police during Saturday's protest, Verma said, "It is part of the investigation, and we will probe into the matter. We will take action as required. The injury to the mother of the RG Kar Medical College crime victim is regrettable. This should not have happened. But why it happened and whether the allegation is correct or incorrect need to be probed."
