McLaren boss Zak Brown warns of ‘disaster' for Red Bull if Max Verstappen leaves
Verstappen has declined to say whether he'll stay with the team for next year amid speculation about a potential move to Mercedes. Brown said Saturday at the British Grand Prix that if the rumors aren't true, then Verstappen, Red Bull or Mercedes should dispel them.
'I don't know, but the fact that no one will definitively commit to where Max is driving clearly indicates something is going on,' Brown told the Associated Press. 'If Max were to leave Red Bull, it would be a disaster for them.'
Verstappen's title defense isn't going to plan as he sits third in the standings, 61 points off the lead. He has scored 155 of Red Bull's 162 points.
Ahead of Sunday's race in Silverstone, Verstappen said he'd prefer to spend the rest of his F1 career with Red Bull. But he wouldn't comment when asked if he'll remain with the team for 2026 or if he's had contact with Mercedes.
'I always said to the team it would be ideal, and I think they think the same way, to finish off my career in Formula 1 with one team,' Verstappen told broadcasters Thursday. 'I think that would be something amazing, and that's what we are still trying to achieve.'

Ponce has two late goals to deliver the Dynamos a 4-3 win over leading San Diego FC
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Ezequiel Ponce scored his second goal 10 minutes into extra time and the Houston Dynamo defeated San Diego FC 4-3 on Saturday night. Ethan Barlow gave Ponce a short middle feed to the top of the box and he used his left foot to deliver a roller to the far corner for the win, just the second home loss of the season for San Diego. Ponce tied the game from the spot in the 87th and then 17 minutes were added at the end of regulation. Anders Dreyer's shot deflected off the leg of teammate Onni Valakari in the 67th minute to give Western Conference leading San Diego a 3-2 lead. Just four minutes later an offside call negated Ponce's tying goal but Ponce got a second chance on the penalty. Milan Iloski of Houston (7-9-5) opened the scoring 25 minutes in and Luca Bombino pulled the Dynamo into a 2-2 tie in the 54th minute. San Diego (12-6-3), which had won four straight, took a 2-1 lead into halftime on goals by Lawrence Ennali and Franco Escobar. Valakari had assists on both goals. Thibout Courtois ends Real Madrid's 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund with a leaping save
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Real Madrid's Club World Cup quarterfinal against Borussia Dortmund had taken three crazy turns during nine minutes of second-half stoppage time when Marcel Sabitzer chested the ball and sent a right-footed volley toward Thibout Courtois' post. Courtois leapt to his right, extended the long arm on his 6-foot-7 frame and just managed to get his gloved fingertips on the ball, knocking it down. Courtois hit the ground as the ball bounded up. He looked skyward, planted his right hand to regain his balance, grabbed the ball with both hands on the second bounce and fell onto it with his chest. Sabitzer turned his back to the goal and put both hands on his head as Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti walked by, raised both hands and blew the final whistle. 'In football it's like this. All the teams that are here, they compete until the end,' Courtois said after Real's 3-2 victory Saturday. 'A game could become like this at any minute and that's what happened at the end.' Voted the top goalkeeper in 2018, Courtois has won a pair of Champions League titles with Real Madrid along with a two Premier League championships and four in La Liga. 'We are so lucky that we have Thibaut on goal because Thibault is one of those keepers that makes you win games and today that save has been so decisive,' Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said. Gonzalo García and Fran García scored in the first 20 minutes as Madrid built a 2-0 lead. Azura Stevens' double-double lifts Sparks over Fever
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Azura Stevens scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds, Kelsey Plum added 20 points and the Los Angeles Sparks won at Indianapolis for the second time in nine days, defeating the Fever, minus Caitlin Clark, 89-87 on Saturday night. Since dominating the fourth quarter en route to an 85-75 win, the Sparks had lost two straight. The Fever had won three, including the Commissioner's Cup, without Clark. She missed her fifth consecutive game with a groin injury. This game was close throughout. The Sparks' biggest lead was three points in the first quarter, and the Fever went up by eight midway through the third. Dearica Hamby scored 18 points for the Sparks (6-13) and Rickea Jackson added 15, including the go-ahead basket that made it 88-87 with 57.4 seconds left. Indiana missed its last five shots, four in the final minute. Stevens rebounded a miss and was fouled, making a free throw with 3.3 seconds to go. The Fever used their reset timeout but Aliyah Boston missed a shot from the top of the key. LYNX 82, VALKYRIES 71 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Napheesa Collier scored 22 points and Minnesota topped Golden State.
