Skate Story is coming to PS5 as well as PC this year
Skate Story has been one of my most anticipated games ever since I first clapped eyes on it all the way back in 2020, so it was great to get an update on it as part of Sony's annual PS Indie Day. It's been confirmed that the striking skateboarding adventure is coming to PS5, as well as PC. Publisher Devolver Digital plans to release it later this year.
Solo developer Sam Eng describes Skate Story as "a game about a demon made of glass who needs to skate the Underworld and consume The Moon to fulfill the devil's contract." To achieve that, you'll need to work your way through nine layers of hell. The only way to beat bosses is by skating fast and pulling off an array of dope tricks, which deal damage. There's a time limit on the boss battle against the Moon that's shown in the latest trailer — you only have until a song ends to defeat the celestial body.
There are more than 70 tricks for you to learn and improve, and you'll level up by completing skate trials. Other characters you'll encounter include a "pillowy demon who owns a laundromat" and a "jittery subway train" you can become pals with and then "experience poetry about the multilight of the Moon."
As odd as that all sounds, absolutely everything I've seen and heard about Skate Story has hit the right spot for me. I especially can't get enough of those visuals.
Eng promises to reveal more details about Skate Story this summer. Given that Devolver typically runs a showcase alongside Summer Game Fest, we'll probably hear more about the game in early June. In the meantime, you can get a taste of what's in store by checking out our Skate Story hands-on.

Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are headed to streaming
Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune are coming to streaming for the first time. The two game shows will arrive on Hulu and Peacock in September, according to a report from The New York Times. Under the multi-year deal, new episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune will appear on both streaming services one day after they air on linear TV. The agreement will include older episodes of each show, too. For decades, Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have been staples on linear TV, and their expansion to Peacock and Hulu is part of a broader pattern that's bringing key series, like WWE's Monday Night Raw, to streaming. As pointed out by The Hollywood Reporter, this streaming deal isn't directly connected to the legal battle involving Sony — the producer of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! — and its distributor, CBS. Last year, Sony sued CBS over claims it breached their agreement by not doing enough to boost revenue from licensing the shows. A judge granted Sony the rights to distribute Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! in April, but an appellate court ruled last week that CBS can keep distributing the shows during the legal battle.

How to watch Sony's PlayStation State of Play at Summer Game Fest

Sony is throwing its own party on Wednesday, June 4 at 5PM ET in the form of a State of Play. The stream will showcase "must-play" PS5 games from developers based around the world and you can watch it on on YouTube or Twitch. To make things even easier, you can watch it right here by clicking the big red button above when the time is right. (English subtitled and Japanese versions of the State of Play will be available too.) The State of Play will run for over 40 minutes, so there should be a bunch of games included. Sony hasn't given any hints as to what it will show off as yet, but it'll surely be worth checking out the stream. Wednesday's event will be Sony's third State of Play of the year. The first was in February, which included the reveal of the very tasty-sounding Soros from Returnal studio Housemarque, a PS5 remaster of Days Gone and a release date for Borderlands 4 . In April, the company hosted a brief State of Play entirely focused on Borderlands 4 where it showed off gameplay and some new multiplayer mechanics. With this State of Play, Sony is padding out a packed SGF schedule that includes what is routinely Xbox's biggest showcase of the year on Sunday, June 8. And then there's also the little matter of the Nintendo Switch 2's arrival on June 5. It's shaping up to be a fun, if very busy, week.

Las Vegas Studio Proposal Backed by Sony and Warner Bros. Dies in Nevada Legislature
A proposal to build a movie studio in Las Vegas died in the Nevada Legislature on Monday night, as lawmakers refused to grant a $95 million annual subsidy. Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. had teamed up to support Summerlin Studios, a 31-acre facility that would have 10 soundstages. A bill to subsidize the project, AB 238, passed the state Assembly last week but died in the Senate on Monday night. 'When we're cutting other important things like housing, education and health care, it's really hard to get to a place where people feel comfortable putting a lot of money into something new.' A similar effort failed in 2023. The Nevada Legislature meets every other year, so the next opportunity to push the project forward won't come until 2027. Sony and Warner Bros. were backing rival projects last fall. Sony supported the Summerlin proposal, which would be built by Howard Hughes Holdings. Warner Bros. was aligned with the UNLV proposal, which was slated for a research campus in the southwest area of Las Vegas. But in February, Warner Bros. switched sides and threw its support behind the Summerlin studio. AB 238, by Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui, would have created a $95 million annual tax credit, which would go to film and TV productions shooting at that facility. An additional $25 million would go to support other productions unconnected with the facility. Lange continued to back the UNLV project, which partnered with Manhattan Beach Studios and Birtcher Development. Her bill, SB 220, did not advance to a floor vote. Jauregui's bill passed the Assembly on a narrow 22-20 vote on Friday. It needed to win Senate passage by midnight on Monday, but was not taken up. In the closing hours of the session, Lange offered an amendment calling for an economic study of the issue. That, too, did not get a vote. 'A film tax credit may not be what people want in the end, but there may be something else,' Lange told Variety. 'We have to do a study and look at what we can do that fits our state and move forward.' The rivalry between the two studio projects did not help the cause. From the outset, it was clear to stakeholders that only one — at most — would win approval. Lange said she spoke to Gov. Joe Lombardo, a Republican, on Monday night, and he was non-committal on the issue, and more focused on winning passage for his own priorities.
