
Multiply Group completes acquisition of Tendam, doubling operational Ebitda
The deal doubles Multiply's operational Ebitda post-consolidation and expands its model to acquire standout businesses, unlock potential through capital and tech, and deliver sustained market leadership.
As one of Europe's leading omnichannel apparel groups, Tendam operates more than 1,800 points of sale and runs successful digital loyalty programmes in over 80 markets, including Spain, Portugal, France, the UAE, and Latin America, making it well-positioned in the evolving retail landscape. From affordable fashion to premium styles, the company's diversified portfolio of 12 established brands caters to multiple customer segments through its leading fashion brands such as Women'secret, Springfield, Cortefiel and Pedro del Hierro, among others.
Multiply now has a majority interest of 67.91 per cent in Castellano Investments S.À R.L. ('Company') (the owner of Tendam Brands S.A.U. and other subsidiaries), with Llano Holdings S.À R.L. and Arcadian Investments S.À R.L., the corporate investment vehicles for CVC Funds and PAI Partners, remaining as minority shareholders.
With this investment, Multiply Group deepens its investments in consumer-focused industries and establishes a presence in the retail and apparel sector, with Tendam becoming a platform business under Multiply's Retail & Apparel vertical.
Multiply will lead the next growth phase of Tendam. This growth is predicated on further international expansion across Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Embedding AI across all aspects of the business, from sourcing to customer operations, will support this growth journey and will leverage the digital infrastructure the company already has in place. In addition, Multiply will support the business on targeted M&A to introduce new brands and categories.

Since 2020, driven by its proven management team, Tendam has recorded steady, quarter-on-quarter growth, strengthening its business model in core markets while expanding its international presence. At the end of June 2025, the company reported last twelve months sales of €1.4 billion and Ebitda post-IFRS 16 of €340.7 million.
Multiply Group has been advised by Greenhill (a Mizuho affiliate), Hogan Lovells and KPMG on the transaction. Castellano and its current shareholders have been advised by Uria Menendez. Ramón Hermosilla Abogados and Latham & Watkins LLP were legal advisors to Tendam on this transaction.

UAE: Study reveals consumer preferences during deal season
As summer reaches its peak in the UAE, sale events remain one of the key drivers for summer shopping, highlighting how customers increasingly time their purchases to these to maximise value. An independent research by Amazon with HarrisX found that 77 per cent of UAE shoppers feel a sense of satisfaction when getting something they want for less. Scoring a great deal is emotionally rewarding for many, often perceived as more exciting than certain life experiences, as 47 per cent find scoring a great deal more exciting than going on a spontaneous weekend trip, highlighting how deeply satisfying deal-hunting can be for consumers in the UAE. In a landscape full of digital options, there is growing affinity for digital subscriptions as more customers recognise the value of memberships that make their shopping experience more convenient. 'We found that 73 per cent of UAE shoppers agree that digital memberships make shopping more convenient. Their favorite elements of digital subscriptions are exclusive discounts (51 per cent), free delivery (49 per cent), and faster delivery (44 per cent) – all benefits that we currently offer as part of our Prime membership programme in the UAE. The research also revealed that memberships make customers more likely to shop with the same retailer repeatedly, showcasing the long-term value of programs like Prime,' Stefano Martinelli, Vice President of Amazon Middle East and North Africa, told Khaleej Times. This year, Amazon has extended its Prime Day sales to a full week, from July 25 to July 31. 'Today's customers are more strategic in their approach to sales events, always looking for ways to maximize their savings. Whether preparing for travel or stocking up on summer essentials, affordability is a core priority,' Martinelli said. According to the study, 29 per cent of UAE shoppers time their purchases around sales events; and 36 per cent are actively researching prices and using tools to ensure they get the best deals. This shows that UAE customers are shopping with greater purpose and precision. The study showed that 73 per cent of UAE shoppers prefer extended sale events because it gives them more time to decide what to buy. Furthermore, the research found that 75 per cent of UAE shoppers say it feels good to grab a deal before the product sells out. 'This excitement around limited time offers creates a thrilling shopping experience that resonates strongly with consumers in the UAE,' Martinelli said. The study also found that 77 per cent of UAE shoppers feel a sense of satisfaction when getting something they want for less. In 2024, top purchased products by Prime members in the UAE during Prime Day included smartphones, perfumes, moisturizers, makeup products, personal care appliances such as groomers, as well as grocery items including laundry detergent, batteries, pet food, and dishwasher cleaner. This year, Prime Day deals span over 30 categories. The Amazon-HarrisX study has shown that 33 per cent of customers in the UAE are more likely to buy a product only when it is on sale. 'We also found that customers in the UAE love the free delivery (59 per cent), exclusive discounts and deals (57 per cent), and faster delivery (45 per cent) that come with digital subscriptions. These subscriptions drive customer trust and loyalty, with 73 per cent of UAE shoppers agreeing that digital memberships and subscriptions make them more likely to repeatedly shop with the same retailer,' ' Martinelli said.

Out-gunned Europe accepts least-worst US trade deal
LONDON - In the end, Europe found it lacked the leverage to pull Donald Trump's America into a trade pact on its terms and so has signed up to a deal it can just about stomach - albeit one that is clearly skewed in the U.S.'s favour. As such, Sunday's agreement on a blanket 15% tariff after a months-long stand-off is a reality check on the aspirations of the 27-country European Union to become an economic power able to stand up to the likes of the United States or China. The cold shower is all the more bracing given that the EU has long portrayed itself as an export superpower and champion of rules-based commerce for the benefit both of its own soft power and the global economy as a whole. For sure, the new tariff that will now be applied is a lot more digestible than the 30% "reciprocal" tariff which Trump threatened to invoke in a few days. While it should ensure Europe avoids recession, it will likely keep its economy in the doldrums: it sits somewhere between two tariff scenarios the European Central Bank last month forecast would mean 0.5-0.9% economic growth this year compared to just over 1% in a trade tension-free environment. But this is nonetheless a landing point that would have been scarcely imaginable only months ago in the pre-Trump 2.0 era, when the EU along with much of the world could count on U.S. tariffs averaging out at around 1.5%. Even when Britain agreed a baseline tariff of 10% with the United States back in May, EU officials were adamant they could do better and - convinced the bloc had the economic heft to square up to Trump - pushed for a "zero-for-zero" tariff pact. It took a few weeks of fruitless talks with their U.S. counterparts for the Europeans to accept that 10% was the best they could get and a few weeks more to take the same 15% baseline which the United States agreed with Japan last week. "The EU does not have more leverage than the U.S., and the Trump administration is not rushing things," said one senior official in a European capital who was being briefed on last week's negotiations as they closed in around the 15% level. That official and others pointed to the pressure from Europe's export-oriented businesses to clinch a deal and so ease the levels of uncertainty starting to hit businesses from Finland's Nokia to Swedish steelmaker SSAB . "We were dealt a bad hand. This deal is the best possible play under the circumstances," said one EU diplomat. "Recent months have clearly shown how damaging uncertainty in global trade is for European businesses." NOW WHAT? That imbalance - or what the trade negotiators have been calling "asymmetry" - is manifest in the final deal. Not only is it expected that the EU will now call off any retaliation and remain open to U.S. goods on existing terms, but it has also pledged $600 billion of investment in the United States. The time-frame for that remains undefined, as do other details of the accord for now. As talks unfolded, it became clear that the EU came to the conclusion it had more to lose from all-out confrontation. The retaliatory measures it threatened totalled some 93 billion euros - less than half its U.S. goods trade surplus of nearly 200 billion euros. True, a growing number of EU capitals were also ready to envisage wide-ranging anti-coercion measures that would have allowed the bloc to target the services trade in which the United States had a surplus of some $75 billion last year. But even then, there was no clear majority for targeting the U.S. digital services which European citizens enjoy and for which there are scant homegrown alternatives - from Netflix to Uber to Microsoft cloud services. It remains to be seen whether this will encourage European leaders to accelerate the economic reforms and diversification of trading allies to which they have long paid lip service but which have been held back by national divisions. Describing the deal as a painful compromise that was an "existential threat" for many of its members, Germany's BGA wholesale and export association said it was time for Europe to reduce its reliance on its biggest trading partner. "Let's look on the past months as a wake-up call," said BGA President Dirk Jandura. "Europe must now prepare itself strategically for the future - we need new trade deals with the biggest industrial powers of the world." UAE petrol prices for August: Why fuel rates likely to remain stable
Petrol prices in the UAE are expected to remain stable or witness only a modest change in August. The average closing price of Brent crude in July was approximately $68.80 per barrel, slightly lower than June's average of $69.87. In the UAE, petrol prices in July were set at Dh2.70 per litre for Super 98, Dh2.58 for Special 95, and Dh2.51 for E-Plus 91. As fuel prices play a crucial role in influencing inflation, stable petrol rates help keep transportation costs and the prices of other goods under control. The UAE continues to rank among the 25 countries with the lowest petrol prices globally, with an average of Dh2.58 per litre. Inflation in the UAE stood at 1.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, largely due to declining energy prices. The Central Bank has revised its inflation forecast for 2025 slightly downward, from 2 per cent to 1.9 per cent. This revision is primarily attributed to the continued decrease in transportation costs. The forecast for 2026 has also been adjusted to 1.9 per cent, down from the earlier estimate of 2.1 per cent. Additionally, easing prices of key non-energy commodities are expected to support a contained inflation outlook. Inflation in 2026 is projected to remain steady at 1.9 per cent, reflecting a downward revision of 0.2 percentage points. In July, petrol prices were influenced primarily by concerns over global trade tariffs. However, crude oil futures rebounded last week on optimism surrounding progress in US trade negotiations. 'The US-Japan agreement, which reduces tariffs on automobile imports while securing major investment pledges in the US, has supported oil prices. At the same time, ongoing talks between Washington and the European Union are boosting hopes for further trade easing, which could strengthen demand expectations for crude,' said Osama Al Saifi, managing director for Mena at Traze. 'Nonetheless, lingering uncertainties regarding the timing and scope of these agreements may temper market optimism, limiting the potential for a significant short-term price rally,' he added.
