Chris Evans revealed the special skill he learned for the elaborate proposal to his now-wife Alba Baptista.
The 43-year-old actor opened up about how he popped the question to his much younger wife, 27, over two years ago.
The Marvel star was first romantically linked to the Portuguese actress in 2021, and they tied the knot two years later but never publicly announced their engagement.
'I proposed to my wife in Portuguese,' he told The Knot at the premiere of his steamy, new romantic comedy, Materialists, in New York City on Saturday.
'She's Portuguese, so I learned how to say, "Will you marry me?" in Portuguese. I had practiced it all week.'
He said he kept practicing what he would say to her in her native language and almost ruined the proposal.
'I had practiced it so much that while I'd be making breakfast and you almost just start saying it out loud,' he recalled.
'Like, "Oh God, that's not just a song that's stuck in my head! It's gonna let the cat out of the bag."'
Fortunately, he said he didn't spoil the surprise before the special moment.
'I got really nervous when it came time to do it,' he said. 'I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it.'
The couple, who share a 16-year age gap, were first romantically linked in 2021 but only publicly debuted their relationship nearly two years later.
In early 2023, the actor made their romance Instagram official when he posted a reel of them playing around and trying to scare each other at home.
The pair never announced their engagement before tying the knot in the fall of 2023 in Cape Cod.

'We had one on the East Coast. We did one in Portugal.'
He said that both ceremonies were 'wonderful and beautiful' before he admitted wedding planning was 'a lot.'
'For those of you who are married, it takes a lot out of you,' he confessed.
Now that we're through that, we've just kinda been enjoying life, gearing up for autumn, my favorite season,' he said at the time.
'It's, like, the best time of the year right now,' he added.
'Now we're just relaxing and enjoying life and reflecting.'
