Do you think more health checks should be mandated for athletes before matches?
Yes, absolutely No, they are already healthy Only for high-risk sports Undecided
This is not an isolated case. In 2024, a similar tragedy occurred at the Garware Stadium in Pune when 35-year-old Imran Patel collapsed after complaining of chest pain during a cricket match. Despite being in good physical shape and actively playing as an all-rounder, Patel suffered a fatal heart attack while returning to the pavilion after voluntarily retiring due to discomfort.

Chennai Grand Masters 2025: Arjun Erigaisi battles back to hold Vincent Keymer in tense draw
Arjun Erigaisi (AP/PTI) Chennai: Ahead of the Chennai Grand Masters, Vincent Keymer told TOI his immediate goal was to get himself in good shape in classical chess to qualify for the Candidates Tournament and promised to give his all. After six rounds here, the young German GM is still unvanquished and well on course towards his target. On Tuesday, the headline clash between the table topper Keymer and top seed Arjun Erigaisi concluded in a gripping stalemate, leaving Keymer (4.5 points) clinging to a one-point lead with three rounds to spare. Playing with the black pieces, Arjun chose the 'Slav defence' against Keymer's 'queen's pawn' opening. Keymer appeared well-prepared and established a promising advantage. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! As the game unfolded, much of Keymer's advantage gradually slipped away with Arjun deliberately complicating the positions. Known for thriving under pressure, Arjun defended with remarkable precision and even maintained composure in a scenario where a single misstep could have ended the game within ten moves. Despite Keymer holding early momentum, time trouble and minor inaccuracies allowed Arjun to claw back. Opting for a practical approach, Arjun played on Keymer's clock rather than hunting for perfect moves and ran away with the half-point. Poll Which style of play do you prefer in chess? Aggressive and offensive Defensive and strategic Balanced approach It depends on the situation With the lead still tight, Keymer will next face Awonder Liang (3.5), who has surged into joint-second spot alongside Arjun (3.5). At the same time, Awonder crossed the coveted 2700 rating mark after a commanding win over V Pranav with the black pieces. While the spotlight was on the Arjun-Keymer clash, on the adjacent board, close friends Anish Giri and Vidit Gujrathi waged a fierce battle before ultimately settling for a draw in their 109-move marathon. The Indian pushed hard with some aggressive play and came agonisingly close to victory after an error by Anish but fell short. The game ended peacefully when both players agreed to a rook trade that secured the draw. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

IPL: Desperation and ‘fluke' behind CSK's Dewald Brevis heist
Dewald Brevis of South Africa (Jono Searle/AAPImage via AP) Chennai: As South African youngster Dewald Brevis lit up Darwin with a 56-ball 125 not out to help the Proteas draw level in the T20 series against Australia, AB de Villiers didn't waste too much time in coming up with a cryptic tweet. 'There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction! Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play,' De Villiers wrote on X. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! CSK had one of their worst IPL seasons in 2025, but the silver lining was acquiring 'Baby AB', who has been a big hit in the T20 circuit across the world since then. CSK, though, didn't have any plans of getting Brevis and it was a combination of desperation, smart thinking and 'a bit of fluke' that led the five-time champions roping him in after eight games. 'We had lost six of the first eight games and knew that our season was gone. And remember, we didn't get Brevis as a replacement for a batter. He came in for medium-pacer Gurjapneet Singh,' a CSK source told TOI. Brevis had played a couple of seasons of IPL before for Mumbai Indians and got only 10 games, doing nothing spectacular. He was released by MI, a decision that they may end up regretting, but none of the franchises showed any interest in him during the auctions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Uber luxury living at Hyderabad's billionaire junction Sumadhura Group Learn More Undo Poll How impressed are you with Dewald Brevis's performance in T20 cricket so far? Very Impressed Somewhat Impressed Not Impressed Neutral 'He had seemed a suspect against spin in the first two seasons and the data of the player didn't suggest anything special. But with Ruturaj Gaikwad out with an injury, we were lacking firepower up top and with no chance to make the play-offs, there was scope to experiment,' the source said. Even then, Brevis was not a straight-forward choice and CSK had thought about Jonny Bairstow, who had also gone unsold in the auction. 'Bairstow had experience, but by then we were ready to take a chance with young guns,' the source said. It was coach Stephen Fleming 's suggestion 'to take a chance with Brevis'. MS Dhoni , too, gave his nod banking on the youth factor and the 22-year-old came in to become an immediate success, scoring 42 off 25 balls against SRH in a low-scoring match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He followed it up with a few sparkling innings that scuppered the progress of teams like KKR and Gujarat Titans. While Brevis has gone from strength to strength since then, culminating in the highest individual innings score by a South African in T20Is on Tuesday, the CSK management still believes he isn't a finished product. The belief in the franchise is that the youngster is going to get better and CSK are ready to give him a long rope so that he can realize his potential and become one of their brave new faces. Australia's unbeaten T20I streak ends – Where does it rank among the longest runs?
South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, centre, is congratulated by teammates (Jono Searle/AAPImage via AP) Australia's nine-match T20I winning streak came to an end in dramatic fashion on Tuesday as Dewald Brevis powered South Africa to a 53-run win in Darwin to level the three-match series at 1-1. The Aussies, led by Mitchell Marsh , had been in red-hot form. They entered this series off the back of a 5-0 sweep against West Indies and a victory in the first T20I over South Africa, taking their streak to nine straight wins — the longest in their T20I history.
